Newport Mansions & Historical Boston Tour October 7th to 11th, 2019 4 nights, 5 days Summary Itinerary Monday, October 7th Day 1 Home – Portsmouth, NH Meet your Driver and Tour Director and depart on your Newport Mansions & Historical Boston Tour. We begin in Charlottetown this morning with pick up in Borden, Aulac, Salisbury, Lincoln, and Woodstock along the way. Transfers are available from Halifax, Dartmouth, Truro, and Saint John. We will stop for lunch (not included) at the Acorn Restaurant in Lake George, NB. Arrive at our host hotel this evening, the Hampton Inn Portsmouth Central in Portsmouth, NH. Enjoy snacks and refreshments at a welcome reception provided by the hotel. The complimentary hotel shuttle can provide transportation to nearby shopping and restaurants. Overnight: Hampton Inn Portsmouth Central Newport Mansions & Historical Boston Tour 1 Tuesday, October 8th Day 2 Portsmouth, NH – Boston, MA – Newport, RI Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out and travel to Boston. We arrive and have a city tour of Boston. Faneuil Hall, the Old State House, King’s Chapel, Old Granary Burial Ground, site of the Boston Massacre, and Beacon Hill are all highlighted as your guide relates the history, folklore and current events of Boston. A walk through the North End will introduce you to one of Boston’s oldest and most historic neighbourhoods with the Paul Revere House and the Old North Church. This afternoon following our tour we will be dropped at Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Quincy Market. We stop for lunch and give you free time to explore the shops. Later this afternoon we visit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum. The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is dedicated to the memory of the thirty-fifth president and to all those who through the art of politics seek a new and better world. Located on a ten-acre park, overlooking the sea that he loved and the city that launched him to greatness, the Library stands as a vibrant tribute to the life and times of John F. Kennedy. Tour the Museum which portrays the life, leadership, and legacy of President Kennedy, conveys his enthusiasm for politics and public service, and illustrates the nature of the office of the President. Later this afternoon travel to Newport, RI and check in to the Holiday Inn Express Newport for a 2-night stay. This evening enjoy an included dinner at La Forge Casino Restaurant. Established in 1880, The Newport Casino was built as the result of a causal bet between James Gordan Bennet JR., owner of the New York Herald, & his guest, British Cavalry Officer, Captain “Sugar” Candy, for which Candy rode his horse into Newport’s most exclusive Men’s Club – The Reading Room. Overnight: Holiday Inn Express Newport (B, D) Newport Mansions & Historical Boston Tour 2 Wednesday, October 9th Day 3 Newport, RI This morning enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we will be joined by a local guide for a Newport Mansions Tour. We depart on a scenic drive and talk all about Newport's rich history. For over 100 years, Newport thrived as a British Colony. The older part of town is the current downtown area today and we will begin our drive there, then head out around our famed Ocean Drive and come into our mansion district. We will talk about many of our grand homes then stop in and tour The Breakers, a Vanderbilt property and quite opulent. Have lunch in historic Newport (not included). This afternoon we will have free time to explore historic Newport. Optional Activity: Take a Harbour Cruise aboard the Amazing Grace. Cruise by the Newport Bridge, Rose Island Lighthouse, Fort Adams, and The Mansions experiencing spectacular panoramas of the bay and the fresh sea breezes. The cost for this optional activity is approximately $25 CAD per person. This evening enjoy an included dinner at Johnny’s Restaurant at the Atlantic Resort. Rest of the evening is free to explore Overnight: Holiday Inn Express Newport (B, D) Thursday, October 10th Day 4 Newport, RI – Portsmouth, NH Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out and load the luggage on the coach. After breakfast we will meet our local guide for a Presidential Tour of Newport. As Newport pre-dates America itself and grew to be one of the country’s largest Colonial-era port cities, it’s no surprise that 25 presidents – more than half of America’s commanders in chief – have visited the City by the Sea. Two presidents even made Newport the home of their “summer White House”: Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy. You will see places including St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, where then-Senator John F. Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier; historic Fort Adams, named in honour of then- President John Adams; and Trinity Church, where George Washington worshipped and where President Gerald Ford visited with Queen Elizabeth to mark the dedication of Queen Anne Square. We will also visit the Marble House, another Vanderbilt mansion where John and Jackie Kennedy attended the Tiffany Ball. This afternoon we will have lunch at a local restaurant (not included). We travel to the Wrentham Premium Outlets for some shopping. Later this afternoon we check into the Hampton Inn Portsmouth Central. This evening is free to explore and have dinner in your own. The hotel shuttle is available to take you where you want to go. Overnight: Hampton Inn Portsmouth Central (B) Newport Mansions & Historical Boston Tour 3 Friday, October 11th Day 5 Portsmouth, NH – Home Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out of the hotel and make our way home. We stop at Duty Free before crossing the Border. Late this evening we arrive home in the Maritimes. This tour is suitable for individuals who can manage walking and standing for short to moderate lengths of time. Certain aspects of the tour may be difficult for individuals with mobility impairments. Tour Director and Driver Your Tour Director and Driver play an important role in making your vacation as memorable and hassle-free as possible. While optional, gratuities are a great way to show your appreciation. The suggested industry guideline is $3.00 to $6.00 per person, per day for your Tour Director and also your Driver.
