I meet people nearly every day who have been affected by prostate cancer. Over the last three years, it has been a pleasure to explain to men and their families that our pocket guides – full of vital information – have been generously supported by our partner FirstGroup. These guides get conversations started, and get people talking about their health. They have helped millions of men, like Joey and Gary mentioned in this report, start their lifesaving journeys and get the information they need. I hope you read this report with great pride knowing that it is your support, your dedication and your hard work that has helped us to reach more men. Employees in all areas of the business have supported our work by hosting depot and station Open Days, raising funds in offices, stations and depots, donating via Payroll Giving and encouraging customer donations. Colleagues have taken on ultra-physical challenges as well as taking part in treks, cycles and runs. Brew and Bake Once again proving that cake is the way to a person’s heart, our Brew and Bake events helped to Brew and Bake gets everyone bring people together and get behind the fundraising cause. ALAN ROSE, B.A. Volume 51 May 1998 SIGNIFICANT INROADS INTO 'SATAN'S SEAT' Early Methodism in Bradford: 1740-1760 Introduction radford by the mid-eighteenth century was beginning to emerge as an important industrial centre. Woollen manufacture, a trade Bwhich had begun in the Aire Valley in the medieval period, had become, by 1750, the economic basis of the town.! The improvement of roads such as that from Leeds to Halifax via Great Horton, which was turnpiked in 1734, and Bowling Lane, providing a route to Huddersfield in 1740, and the extension of the Leeds -Liverpool Canal to Thackley in 1744, provided cheap and convenient transport links necessary for economic growth. With the building of the Bowling and Low Moor Iron Works in the reign of George Ill, and the erection of the textile mills at Whetley and Manningham in the Victorian period, Bradford became 'Worstedopolis', the undisputed wool capital of the world. This rapid industrialisation brought about a significant rise in the town's population as labourers began to drift in from the surrounding rural districts, and from Ireland, in search of employment. By 1750 Bradford had grown from being nothing more than a village to a town of about 8,000 people. This industrial expansion provided the socio-economic context for the development of local religious dissent. Several ministers in the vicinity of Bradford, had been ejected from their livings in 1662 due to their refusal to give their 'unfeigned assent and consent to all and everything contained and prescribed in and by the book intituled "The Book of Common Prayer"'.

    Bradford & Bingley Transformation & Decline: 1995 – 2010 Matthias Hambach PhD University of York The York Management School October 2014 Abstract The recent financial and economic crisis, which affected many financial institutions in the UK, created the need to investigate and understand how the crisis affected these institutions. Consequently, numerous official reports and academic studies have been written, particularly on Northern Rock, examining the financial impact on, and business strategies of, these institutions. However, comparatively, there has been little empirical investigation into the board processes that contributed to the decisions made by the management of these affected institutions leading up to the crisis. Of particular interest to research are the demutualised building societies. They were unlike the large universal banks, who engaged heavily in investment banking and were trading on their own account; yet their organisational outcomes, in particular receipt of government support, were similar. This study focuses on the case of the former Bradford & Bingley Building Society (B&B), the last building society to demutualise, and investigates its transformation and decline over the period 1995 – 2010. The investigation adopts a novel approach by combining the Corporate Governance Life-Cycle with the Upper Echelons Perspective to examine structural and behavioural changes of the board and its governance functions, during the transition of Bradford & Bingley, from building society to bank and nationalised institution. Using a variety of sources, including interviews with directors, official documents, financial records, and newspaper articles, the transformation of B&B is examined through a historical lens. The thesis argues that life-cycle stages should not be seen as periods with well defined boundaries, but rather overlapping periods of varying length, where each period has distinct characteristics that distinguish it from another.
