For just a minute or two, I'd like to share my own almost unbelieveable happiness with everyone. I'd also like to share my _t gratitude and love you with this Thanksgiving. So now, and each and every moment Me? Not happy? That's has correct, my life not always been of my life so long as I live, if I am not happy. For many years, had I to BE happy at work and out and asleep or working on something, I am - about, whether I was feelingjoyful or not. sort of like the Tibetan prayer flags which Ifyou don't think that is worrisome for someone, I had a heart send non-stop prayers heavenward with attack caused by stress. I had thought I was handling every, thing the breezes that blow - I arn sending my very well and concealing my real Iife from everyone. I had known Tom Freeman on the phone for years, as he had _4 done artwork for Scottish Weekend. He did our pins and art for the q ;iq theme ofwhatever we did that year. Over time, we became "phone * friends" and would share puns and information about graphic de- sign and, in between working on our annual designs, we would laugh and laugh. It was always a pleasure to talk to Tom. We talked on the phone for years. Tom forgot to tell me that he was in a wheelchair. When Torn and I finally met in person, my mind said, "He's in a wheelcliair!" My heart said, "So what?" We became fast friends with no thoughts of anyhing else. Tom was injured in a motorcycle accident in 1988. After his accident, he had thought he would never share a loving relationship with anyone and that he would never marry. I had thought very uncornplimentary thoughts about the entire male population ofthe world for thifty-four years. It was about at this time that "a miracle occurred" and we were Handfasted at tlie Glasgow, Kentuclry Highland Ganes in 2005 with LOTS offriends present and fairy dust and cake and laughter. We were legally married in our dear friend, Jeri Mattin's gar- den, in Lebalon, Tennessee in 2007. I will admit, the bravest thing I ever did was to trust Tom Free- man. My "truster" had been not only broken, but shattered beyond repair, I thought. Now, fifteen years after the Handfasting, Tom, who is my "Huh I{uh" (as I still don't trust the other name) has never, ever said an unkind word to me. Not even one. For example, wfen I had my hip surgeries, Tom spent the entire night with me at the hospital, both times. No tiny baby has ever beeu treated gentler or kinder or with more love. He has always been amaz- ingly understanding and ftoughtful. We are each other's best friends.

How do we estimate DNA relationships? A DNA match means you and another AncestryDNA@member inherited DNA from one ol mole recent ancestors. The length of DNA you have in common with your matches is estimated incentimorgans (cM), The larger the number, the closer the relationship. The DNA you share with your matches is distributed across segmenls - short segments, long segments, or some combination of both. The length of the longest segment you and a DNA match have in common can help determine your relationship. The longer the segment, the more likely you are related through a recent common ancestor. Segment length can aiso be helpful when you're evaluating the difference between multiple matches that all show the same pos- sible relationship. In some cases, the length of the longest shared segment is greater than the total length of shared DNA. This is because we adjust the length of shared DNA to reflect the DNA that is most likely shared from a recent ancestor. Sometimes, DNA can be shared for reasons other than recent ancestory such as when two people share the same ethnicity or are from the same regions. Possible DNA Relationships: The table ghows the percentage ofpeople sharing 3,47 0 cM have the following relationships: Percent, 1007o Relationship, Parent/Child. Evaluating DNA Evidence: DNA evidence may support or contradict other forms of evi- dence, and may point to different sources of evidence. To explain the basics ofethnicity and how its calculated, I shall refer to two publications available for further reading on their website entitled -AncestryDNA Reference Panel, and AncestryDNA Ethnicity. Ethnicity Estimates - What are they? According to Blaine T. Bettinger, Genealogist-Ethnicity Estimates - "more accurately known as admixture or biogeographical estimation - is the process of assigning a test taker's DNA to one or more populations around the world based on comparison of those segments to DNA from reference populations. Individual segments ofthe test taker's DNA are assigned to the reference population that they most closely match, based on the assumption that the DNA most 1ike1y came from ihat population at a recent point in time. All ofthe assignments over the test taker's entire genome are added together to Ethnicity Estimrte create the overall ethnicity estimate."
