Nine local people stood as candidates for the eight councillor places representing the ‘Dobwalls ward’ of the parish Trewidland (Dobwalls village, from the railway to the north east). The newly elected members of the parish Council are shown opposite. The ‘Trewidland ward’ (which covers the southern and western areas of the parish including Doublebois and Boduel) had only two candidates standing for re-election, so both were confirmed. However this does mean that there is still one council place designated for this ward which has not been filled. Parishioners in the western area of the parish e.g. Doublebois or Boduel etc. might consider putting themselves forward to represent this area in the future. Responsibilities of new Parish Councillors will be agreed at the first meeting of new council at the Annual Parish Council meeting on the 17th May. Contact details for all councillors and details of their responsibilities will be available in the Minutes of this Annual Parish Council meeting, which will be available at: www.dobwallsandtrewidland.org.uk. Councillors will be pleased to give you advice on any matters relating to their area of the parish or responsibilities. Parish Council Meetings, All meetings start at 7.00pm and will be held on: June 21st at Dobwalls Church Hall July 19th at Trewidland Village Hall th August 16 at Dobwalls Church Hall Attending and participating in Parish Council Meetings Members of the public are welcome to attend any council meeting and can raise an issue or speak to the council about an agenda item under public participation which is usually towards the beginning of the meeting. The Agenda for each PC meeting will be posted on the Parish Council website and on notice boards in both Dobwalls and Trewidland, in advance of the meeting. 3 Thanks to retiring councillors Thanks to Del Mills for his great contribution to the parish over the many years in which he has served on the Dobwalls and Trewidland Parish Council (and as a Cornwall Councillor). Thanks also to Mike Hassill who retired from the parish council before the elections. Thanks are also due to Mike George who has represented the Liskeard West and Dobwalls ward of the parish for many years, and who has been a great supporter of the Dobwalls and Trewidland Parish Council. Reporting problems and raising issues If you have an issue that you feel the Parish Council should know about, please let us know. General problems may be reported to Dobwalls and Trewidland Parish Clerk, Linda Coles by email to: [email protected] or by post to: Mrs. Linda Coles, The Firs, Lower Metherell, Callington, Cornwall PL17 8BJ or by telephone: 01579 350962 Parish Marquee Several years ago the Parish Council purchased two 6m x 6m marquees (which can be assembled together to form a 6m x 12m unit). The marquees are available for use by any Parish organisations, free of charge and can be used by other parishioners for a donation towards their upkeep. However, please note that we do not generally allow the marquees to be used outside the confines of the parish. As a Parish Council we should be very pleased with the turn out and also on the way around two young children called Storm and Jamie tagged along to help. The full black bags shown below indicate what a worthwhile event it was for everyone involved. Trewidland’s Litter-pick was not quite such a community event, although Councillor Hugh Francis managed to collect a whole bag of litter between Horningtops and the lower end of Trewidland Village. Last year’s ‘Clean for the Queen’ efforts are still ensuring that the lanes in Trewidland have been more troubled by mud and potholes than by litter – though even the potholes have now been dealt with! 9 10 11 12 13 28th- 29th July Dobwalls Charity Beer Festival 14 Lunch at School… brings back good memories! Dobwalls School will be starting its Lunch project this Summer. In an attempt to help bridge the generation gap they are inviting retired members of the community into the school at lunchtime to share a meal with the children. Our meals are freshly cooked daily on site and will cost £2.64 for a main meal and pudding. At 12 noon Diners will be met by a child at the door and shown down to the hall where they will sit with a group of children and chat while eating the lunch they previously ordered. Our Wednesday menu is our roast day, always a popular choice amongst the children; however jacket potatoes or a vegetarian option is always available as well. Children usually take about half an hour to eat their meal and then go outside to play. You will be invited to go outside with the children if you wish where we have lots of seating available and where I am sure children will want to sit and chat with you. Lunchtimes ends at 1pm when the children return to class and bid you goodbye. Access around the school is good with a gentle slope leading down to the hall. Disabled toilets are close to the hall if required. We have no steps that need to be negotiated as we always have a slope option with plenty of hand rails. Our first lunch session will be at 12 noon on Wednesday 7th June followed by 14th, 21st, 28th June and then 5th, 12th,19th July. We would love to hear from you if you would like to come and join us. There is no commitment to visit every Wednesday.

  • Summer 2019 Walks Programme with Adverts ROBOROUGH
Summer 2019 Walks Programme Message From The Chair am proud to be taking over the helm of our very successful Ramblers Group and as the days start to get longer, the I birds start singing and the spring flowers begin to rear their heads, the final confirmation that summer is approaching is the appearance of the Tavistock Ramblers Summer Walks Programme. Preparing the programme is akin to drawing up a menu. Retaining a few proven favourites but trying a selection of new “dishes” with Paul being Head Chef. So it is with our latest programme. We always like to thank our leaders who submit walk suggestions but this time they seem to have excelled even their high standards. As a result, we have been able to put on more walks than usual; more Wednesday and Thursday walks, linear walks, walks as part of Dartmoor Walking Festival and a repeat of the popular Lych Way walk. The “menu” guarantees there is something for everyone. The good news is that even if you overindulge, it will be good for you! Even the strongest walkers have to stop and rest sometimes which is where the social programme comes in, so make sure you look at what is planned over the coming months and come along. Many of the walks have a particular social slant as well, so there is always an opportunity to share extra time and laughter with each other. Whether you are a regular or occasional walker, a new or older member, you are all very welcome in our Tavistock Ramblers family and we all look forward to spending time with you.
