• Howe-Shurmer intersection has had traffic issues for years ms consultants, Inc. • A 2014 NOACA traffic study recommended that the entire Howe corridor be studied COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH NOACA in the News Six big, bold ideas that could change Cleveland as we know it FreshWater, July 19 • Cleveland to Chicago Hyperloop: reducing ground-level travel time between the cities to 28 minutes • NOACA is partnering with HTT on $1.2 million feasibility study • Cleveland could be a hub for a regional Hyperloop complex • Eventually could connect additional Midwestern cities as well as coastal metropolitan areas COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH NOACA in the News Local Effect of Trump's Plan to Freeze Fuel Economy Standards Would Be Like Adding 4 Million Cars to Cuyahoga County Cleveland Scene, July 19 • If the Trump plan is implemented: • An additional 1.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide could be released into the County each year by 2040 • The cumulative effect of this increase is the equivalent to adding over 4 million additional cars to our roadways • NOACA analysis shows that greenhouse gases will rise 3% • Beginning in 2020, automakers would no longer have to make vehicles more fuel efficient every year • NOACA and Cuyahoga County issued a joint press release stating that the region’s air quality could worsen quickly should fuel economy standards freeze COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH NOACA in the News Ohio City is Conducting a Traffic Calming Study on Franklin Boulevard Cleveland Scene, July 20 • City of Cleveland and NOACA are partnering on the study to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists • Three-week demonstration project - traffic diverters set up to encourage pass-through traffic to use arterial roads such as Detroit Avenue • Planners will measure the impacts to traffic speed and volume to analyze potential changes in traffic patterns on adjacent streets • Feedback from local residents will be reflected in the study’s final recommendations COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH NOACA in the News Broadview Heights receives federal funding for Broadview Road-Oakes Road improvements Broadview Hts. community blog, Sept. 4 • City of Broadview Heights will receive federal funding to widen the Broadview Road/Oakes Road intersection • The project will also include: • The addition of left-turn lanes on both northbound and southbound Broadview at Oakes • New traffic signals at the intersection • New curbs and crosswalks • Vehicle detection in the Broadview-Oakes traffic light • NOACA recommended lane additions and other improvements in a 2016 study COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH
