Report No. 49194 Public Disclosure Authorized AFRICA INFRASTRUCTURE COUNTRY DIAGNOSTIC Air Transport Challenges to Growth Public Disclosure Authorized June 2009 Sustainable Development Africa Region Public Disclosure Authorized Document of the World Bank Public Disclosure Authorized Vice President: Obiageli Katryn Ezekwesili Sector Director: Inger Andersen Task Team Leader: Vivien Foster About AICD This study is part of the Africa Infrastructure Country Diagnostic (AICD), a project designed to expand the world’s knowledge of physical infrastructure in Africa. AICD will provide a baseline against which future improvements in infrastructure services can be measured, making it possible to monitor the results achieved from donor support. It should also provide a more solid empirical foundation for prioritizing investments and designing policy reforms in the infrastructure sectors in Africa. AICD will produce a series of reports (such as this one) that provide an overview of the status of public expenditure, investment needs, and sector performance in each of the main infrastructure sectors, including energy, information and communication technologies, irrigation, transport, and water and sanitation. The World Bank will publish a summary of AICD’s findings in spring 2008. The underlying data will be made available to the public, through an interactive Web site, allowing users to download customized data reports and perform simple simulation exercises. QuickTime™ and a TIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture. The first phase of AICD focuses on 24 countries that together account for 85 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), population, and infrastructure aid flows of Sub-Saharan Africa. The countries are: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Chad, Congo (Democratic Republic of Congo), Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

  • Economy Model Although It Claims That It Is Applying a Market Economy Model As Stipulated in the Economic Vision
The Kleptomaniac Leadership and his Destructive Role on the Economic Dimension of Nation Building An Illustration of the Manipulative and Destructive Self-Appointed Dictator and his Cohorts in Eritrea Paper Presented at the 16th International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD) Conference from May 13-16, 2015 at Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya By Desalegn Abraha, Ph. D Associate Professor in Business Administration Email: [email protected] Abstract: This article examines the Economic Dimension of Nation building in light of the economic vision adopted in 1994. Both secondary and primary data are used to write this article. The primary data is collected through telephone interviews, personal interviews and focus-group discussions with some veteran liberation fighters, former government officials, business men and some people who were holding key positions in some government institutions and who have experience and knowledge as to how the market operates. The main findings show that the kleptomaniac leadership has committed an economic, legal and ethical blunder scoring one of its main failures in the economic dimension of the nation building process. This is due to the fact that it has applied a militarist and one man owned, designed, decided and miss managed command economy model although it claims that it is applying a market economy model as stipulated in the economic vision. Moreover, it is to be indicated that the dysfunctional militarist and one man owned, designed, decided and miss managed command economy model is not properly planned and it is poorly coordinated and terribly mismanaged. This reality has a serious negative consequence on the economic, social, cultural, diplomatic and political conditions of the country.

Thus, we embarked on radical reforms towards bringing a turnaround of fortune. To lead the change of its network and fleet, the airline undertook a thorough evaluation to realize what would fit perfectly into our business and what would allow us to better serve our customers worldwide. As a key preliminary outcome of this process of evaluation, we have developed a restructuring plan of the network and fleet that was put into implementation phase to be ended by FY 2020/2021. As part of this plan, 50% of the short term phase was completed by receiving the fifth Boeing 737-800 NG contracted last year on a purchase sale / lease back with Boeing and DAE with last one to be delivered by December 2017. This short term deal will leave our fleet with 69 A/C and our fleet planning team is implementing a 5 year plan that will drive the biggest A/C order in the company’s history of 45 A/C of different sizes to replace number of the current units and increase the fleet size to 84 A/C by 2021, This plan aims to reduce our unit cost benefiting from the fuel efficient new technology A/C and enhancing our product to deliver better service to our customers.
