Governors are appointed for a period of 4 years. At the end of a Parent Governor’s term of office all parents are sent a letter asking for nominations for the vacant position(s).

1 YSGOL GYMRAEG CASTELL-NEDD

Ysgol gynradd cyfrwng Cymraeg penodedig yw’r ysgol hon. Addysgir plant y Cyfnod Sylfaen yn gyfangwbl trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg; a chyflwynir gwersi pwnc Saesneg, yn ogystal â chanran fechan o wersi eraill yn ddwyieithog, yng Nghyfnod Allweddol 2. Cymraeg yw iaith swyddogol yr ysgol.

This school is a designated Welshmedium primary school. Children are taught exclusively through the medium of Welsh within the Foundation Phase; English, as a subject, in addition to a small percentage of other subjects taught bilingually, is introduced at Key Stage 2. Welsh is the official language of the school.

• Bu’n achos o falchder a boddhad mawr i bawb yn Ysgol Gymraeg Castell-nedd ein bod wedi cynnal ein statws fel YSGOL WERDD, a hynny am y drydedd flwyddyn yn olynol . Yn ôl y diffiniad, mae YSGOLION GWYRDD yn: • adnabod eu hunain yn dda ac yn penderfynu ar eu blaenoriaethau eu hunain ar gyfer gwella, ac yn eu gweithredu; • maent yn wydn o ran eu tîm o staff; • byddant yn cael eu herio i symud ymlaen neu i gynnal rhagoriaeth; • mae ganddynt y gallu i arwain eraill yn effeithiol; • maent yn cael eu gwobrwyo gyda mwy o ymreolaeth.

Rwy’n siŵr y cytunwch fod hyn ‘oll yn newyddion gwych i ni gyd; ond er ein bod wrth ein bodd gyda’n categori gwyrdd, ni ddylai unrhyw un feddwl ein bod yn bwriadu gorffwys ar ein rhwyfau, ond yn hytrach fe fyddwn yn anelu at welliant pellach i’n galluogi ni i gynnal ein statws, blwyddyn ar ôl blwyddyn, fel YSGOL WERDD.

It certainly is a source of great pride and satisfaction to us all at Ysgol Gymraeg Castell-nedd that we have been maintained our status as a GREEN school, for the third successive year . GREEN SCHOOLS, by definition: • know themselves well and identify and implement their own priorities for improvement; • have resilience within the staff team; • will be challenged to move towards or sustain excellence; • have the capacity to lead other schools effectively; • will be rewarded by greater autonomy;

The School Categorisation System is based upon three steps: • How well the school is performing in relation to pupils’ standards; • The school’s ability and capacity to selfimprove, with a clear focus on leadership, learning and teaching; • The combination of the two steps will lead to a colour categorisation of the school.

I’m sure you’ll all agree that this is fantastic news for us all; but though we are delighted with our green categorisation, nobody should be in any doubt that the school will not rest on its laurels, but will strive for further school improvement so that we can maintain our status, year on year, as a GREEN SCHOOL.

• Parhawyd â’n hymrwymiad at ein rôl fel ‘Ysgol Arloesi Y Fargen Newydd’, sy’n sail i gyflawni nodau’r ddogfen ‘Cymwys am Oes’, mewn perthynas ag argymhellion Donaldson a Furlong. Rhaid i bob ysgol a ddewiswyd ar gyfer y rhwydwaith fodloni nifer o feini prawf llwyddiant, yn cynnwys “ysgolion sy’n perfformio’n dda ac sydd â hanes o ddatblygu a chyflawni darpariaeth wych ac arloesol o ddysgu proffesiynol ac sy’n gallu helpu ymarferwyr i ddatblygu eu sgiliau o ran addysgeg ac arweinyddiaeth.” 2 YSGOL GYMRAEG CASTELL-NEDD

Our school continued its commitment to its role as a ‘Pioneer New Deal School’, which is a basis for achieving the aims of the ‘Qualified for Life’ document, in line with the recommendations set out by Donaldson and Furlong. Schools selected for the network firstly have to meet several criteria, including “schools that perform well and have a history of developing and delivering outstanding and pioneering provision for professional learning and can assist practitioners to develop their own leadership and pedagogy skills.”

• Rydym hefyd yn rhan o rwydwaith Ysgolion Dysgu Proffesiynol ERW/ Prifysgol Y Drindod Dewi Sant. Ein hardal o arbenigedd yw Arweinyddiaeth. Disgwylir i ni barhau a datblygu ein harfer da iawn; i rannu arfer dda gydag ysgolion eraill; i ddatblygu staff fel hyfforddwyr neu fentoriaid; i sefydlu ein hun fel Canolfan Rhagoriaeth; ac ati. We are also involved in the ERW/Trinity St. David’s University Professional Learning Schools’ network. Our area of expertise is Leadership. We are expected to continue developing our own very good practice; to share this practice with other schools; to develop staff as trainers or mentors; to establish ourselves as a Centre of Excellence; etc.

• Mae ein prosesau ar gyfer arwain, nodi, dilysu a rhannu ymarfer effeithiol yn cyflawni gwelliant parhaus. Mae ein gweithdrefnau ‘Craffu ar Waith’ ar y cyd, yn ogystal â’n sustemau ar gyfer arsylwi gwersi ein gilydd’, ill dau yn nodweddion ardderchog o’r ysgol. Our processes for leading, identifying, validating, and sharing effective practice ensures continuous progress. Our wholestaff ‘Book Scrutiny’ procedures, as well as our systems for observing one another’s lessons, are both excellent features of our school.

• Yn ystod y flwyddyn, bum wrthi yn gweithredu rhaglen ‘Triawdau Addysgu’ ar draws yr ysgol, gyda’r bwriad penodol o wella ansawdd yr addysgu a safonau disgyblion. Mae tri athro/athrawes o fewn yr Uned yn mynd ati i gynllunio gwers unigol, sy’n cael ei chyflwyno i blant y tri dosbarth yn eu tro. Yn dilyn y wers gyntaf, trefnir cyfarfod diwedd dydd er mwyn gwerthuso’r wers, gyda’r tri athro/athrawes yn cyfrannu at y drafodaeth. Mireinir y wers er mwyn cynnwys gwelliannau, cyn ei dysgu gan athro/athrawes wahanol ar y diwrnod canlynol. During the academic year, we implemented a programme of ‘Teaching Triads’ across the school, with the specific aim of improving the quality of teaching and pupils’ standards. Three teachers within the Unit plan a single lesson, to be delivered to the three classes in turn. Following the first lesson, a meeting is convened immediately to evaluate the lesson, attended by the three teachers. The lesson is tweaked to incorporate improvements in advance of it being taught by a different teacher the following day; etc.

• Mae Mrs Julie Canfield, Cynorthwyydd Addysgu ym Ml.1P, wedi ymgymryd â’r gwaith pwysig o ‘Cynorthwyydd Cefnogi Llythrennedd Emosiynol’ (C.C.Ll.E. / E.L.S.A.) ers Medi 2016. Mae hi wedi derbyn hyfforddiant arbenigol gan seicolegwyr addysg yn ymwneud â datblygiad emosiynol plant penodol yn ein hysgol. Ei rôl yw helpu’r plant yma i ddeall eu hemosiynau a pharchu teimladau eraill o’u cwmpas. Rhyddheir Mrs Canfield o’i dyletswyddau dosbarth bob prynhawn Dydd Gwener er mwyn ymgymryd â’r gwaith. Mrs Julie Canfield, Teaching Assistant in Yr.1P, has taken on the crucial role of ‘Emotional Literacy Support Assistant’ (ELSA) since September 2016. She has received special training from educational psychologists to support the emotional development of specific children in our school. Her brief is to help these children to understand their emotions and respect the feelings of those around them. Mrs Canfield is released from her classroom duties every Friday afternoon to undertake this work.

• Gwelwyd cydberthynas cyfatebol da iawn rhwng asesiadau’r athrawon ar ddiwedd CS a CA2 2017 (Deilliannau 5/6 & Lefelau 4/5) a sgoriau safonol Profion Cenedlaethol Haf 2017. Mae asesiadau athrawon yn gyson ac yn gywir. Mae prosesau cadarn ac effeithiol ar gyfer olrhain cynnydd disgyblion. Very good levels of correlation were seen between our End of FP/KS2 2017 (Outcomes 5/6 & Levels 4/5) and our standardised 2017 National Tests scores. Teachers’ assessments are consistent and accurate. Robust and effective processes exist for tracking pupils’ progress.

• Parhawyd â’r drefn o amserlenni dau ddiwrnod digyswllt yr un bob tymor i bob pennaeth uned er mwyn arsylwi athrawon eraill yr Uned wrth eu gwaith, gyda’r bwriad o gynnig cymorth, arweiniad ac hyfforddiant uniongyrchol iddynt ar lawr y dosbarth, o’i gyferbynnu â rôl monitro a herio. Gosodir targedau cyraeddadwy i bob athro, ac o fewn tair wythnos trefnir ailymweliad er mwyn sicrhau fod y targedau wedi eu gweithredu a bod gwelliannau mewn lle. We continued with our programme of timetabling two noncontact days per term for every Unit Leader to enable them to observe other teachers at work, with the aim of providing support, direction and direct coaching at classroom level, as opposed to a monitoring and challenging role. Achievable targets are set for each teacher, and revisits are arranged within a three week period so as to ensure that the targets have been implemented and improvements are in place.

• Parhaodd disgyblion Blwyddyn 4 a 6 yn i fod yn rhan o brosiect rhwng Ysgol Gyfun a’i hysgolion partner a elwir ‘Ystalyfera’n Cyfri’, sy’n golygu fod athrawes uwchradd yn ymweld â’n hysgol bob wythnos er mwyn cynnal sesiynau dysgu trawsgwricwlaidd, sydd ag elfennau o rifedd yn ganolog iddynt.

3 YSGOL GYMRAEG CASTELL-NEDD

Our Years 4 & 6 pupils continued their involvement in a project between Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and her partner primaries entitled ‘Ystalyfera’n Cyfri’ (‘Ystalyfera Counts’), whereby, on a weekly basis, a secondary teacher delivers crosscurricular lessons, with a clear focus on numeracy skills.

• Yn ystod y flwyddyn, croesawyd athrawon o’r ysgolion canlynol, oedd am weld arfer dda yn y meysydd canlynol: ‘Mathemateg Fawr CA2’ (YGG Tyle’r Ynn); ‘Cynllunio yn y CS’ (YGG Cwmnedd); ‘Geirio Gwych’ (YGGD Trebannws). During the year, we received visits from teachers from the following schools, who requested to see firsthand experience of good practice: ‘Big Maths at KS2’ (YGG Tyle’r Ynn); Planning in the FP (YGG Cwmnedd); ‘Big Write’ (YGGD Trebannws)

• Daeth Mr Darren Long, ERW i gynnig hyfforddiant i griw o blant CA2 ynglyn â’u rôl fel Dewiniaid Digidol. Ar ddiwedd mis Chwefror 2017, gwahoddwyd y plant yma i fynychu Cynhadledd Dewiniaid Digidol yn Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. Mr Darren Long, ERW provided training for a group of KS2 pupils regarding their role as Digital Wizards. At the end of February 2017, the ‘Wizards’ were invited to a Digital Wizards Conference at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera.

• Sefydlwyd dau ddosbarth ar sail ffrydio yn ôl gallu ar gyfer addysgu Gwyddoniaeth, ar ben uchaf CA2. Two ‘streamed’ classes based on pupils’ ability were established at the top end of KS2.

• Gwahoddwyd chwech o aelodau hynaf ein Cyngor Ysgol i Gynhadledd Flynyddol Cynghorau Ysgol PENTAN yng Nghastellnedd. Six of the senior members of our School Council were invited to the Annual PENTAN Schools’ Council Conference in Neath.

• Dewiswyd yr ysgol i gymryd rhan mewn adolygiad thematig gan Estyn, gyda’r bwriad o edrych yn benodol ar ein dulliau o addysgu Gwyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg Dylunio. Addysgwyd gwersi gan Miss Harris a Mrs Cox, a phob clod iddynt am gytuno i wneud. Yn sgîl yr ymweliad, gofynnwyd i’r ysgol i gyflwyno astudiaeth achos o arfer dda, i’w gynnwys yn yr adroddiad terfynol. Diolch mawr i Mrs Sara James am ei gwaith paratoi trylwyr. The school was selected to take part in a thematic review by Estyn, looking specifically at our methods in teaching Science and Design Technology. Miss Harris and Mrs Cox taught a lesson each, and we’re very grateful to both for their willingness to do so. As a result of the visit, the school was asked to prepare a good practice case study, to be included in the final report. Many thanks to Mrs Sara James for her meticulous preparation work.

• Gwnaed buddsoddiad mewn 5 bwrdd rhyngweithiol ‘CTouch’, er mwyn hyrwyddo ansawdd y dysgu a’r addysgu ar draws yr Unedau. Cost y byrddau oedd £12,000, yn cynnwys eu gosod yn y dosbarthiadau, wedi’i llogi dros gyfnod o 3 blynedd. The school invested in 5 ‘CTouch’ Interactive Whiteboards, to promote the quality of teaching and learning across the Units. The total cost, inclusive of installation, was £12,000, leased over a 3 year period.

• O ganlyniad i’r ffaith fod 16 o blant newydd wedi dechrau gyda ni yn y dosbarth Meithrin Prynhawn, yn syth ar ôl gwyliau’r Pasg, cynigiwyd llefydd i blant hynaf y sesiwn prynhawn yn y sesiwn bore (8.5011.20 y.b.). Cyflogwyd dwy gynorthwywraig ychwanegol ar gyfer y sesiwn Meithrin Bore yn unig, trefniant oedd yn weithredol o Ebrill 24ain tan Orffennaf 21ain, 2017. Roedd y nifer o ardaloedd dysgu oedd eisoes yn bodoli yn y bloc Meithrin yn ein caniatáu i gyfyngu’r grwpiau dysgu i ddim mwy na 10 plentyn ar gyfartaledd ym mhob grŵp. Mewn gwirionedd, mae adeilad y Meithrin, yn cynnwys yr ardaloedd awyr agored, yn ein caniatáu i dderbyn niferoedd mawr o blant yn lled gyffyrddus. Golyga hyn fod yr holl blant oedd yn symud i’r dosbarthiadau Derbyn llawnamser ym mis Medi 2017 yn cael eu haddysgu yn ystod yr un sesiwn. As a result of 16 new children starting in the Afternoon Nursery class, immediately after the Easter holidays, places were offered to the eldest children in the afternoon session to attend Morning Nursery (8.50–11.20 a.m.) We appointed two additional classroom assistants for Morning Nursery only, which was operational from April 24 th to July 21 st , 2017. It also meant, of course, that those children, who’moved to the fulltime Reception classes in September 2017, were taught together in the same Nursery session. The existing number of teaching areas within the Nursery block enable us to limit teaching groups to no more than 10 children on average per group. The unique layout of the Nursery building, which includes the outofdoors areas, certainly enables us to house such a large number of children.

• Cynhaliwyd dwy sesiwn dros ddau brynhawn ym mis Chwefror, 2017 pryd y gwahoddwyd rhieni a’u plant i’r ysgol i edrych yn fanwl drwy lyfrau gwaith eu plant. Gofynnwyd i rieni i gwblhau ffurflen fer, gan nodi rhai sylwadau am safonau gwaith eu plant. 4 YSGOL GYMRAEG CASTELL-NEDD

We held meetings in the school hall over two afternoons in February 2017, when we invited parents and their children to view their children’s current school workbooks. Parents were invited to complete a short form, asking them to comment on their children’s work.

• Ym mis Gorffennaf, cynhaliodd ein Harweinwyr Tîm gyfweliadau Rheoli Perfformiad gydag athrawon yr ysgol. Y ffocws oedd deialog broffesiynol yn ymwneud â gwerthuso’u gwaith eu hunain, a rhestrwyd cyfleoedd ar gyfer datblygiad proffesiynol personol pellach i bob unigolyn. In July, Team Leaders conducted Performance Management interviews with all of our teachers. The professional dialogue focussed on a self evaluation of their work, listing opportunities for further personal professional development.

• Roedd disgyblion yr ysgol wedi elwa o ymgymryd â nifer o ymweliadau addysgiadol yn ystod y flwyddyn, yn ogystal ag unigolion/grwpiau yn ymweld â’r ysgol: Ffair Castellnedd (Cyfnod Sylfaen); Castell Henllys (Bl.5&6); Traeth Aberafan (Bl.1&2); Diwrnod Mentergarwch Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera (Bl.6); Cwmni theatr ‘Mewn Cymeriad’: hanes Buddug (Bl.5&6); Eglwys Dewi Sant, Castellnedd (Bl.1&2); Eglwys Sant Tomos, Castellnedd (Bl.1&2); John Richards, hanesydd [Y Rhufeiniaid] (Bl.3&4); Aled Phillips, Ffisiolegydd y galon (Bl.3&4); Asiantaeth Deithio Thomas Cook, Castellnedd (Bl.1&2); Castell Caerffili (Bl.3&4); Castell Caerdydd (Derbyn); Ymweld â thref Castellnedd a Pharc y Gnoll (dosbarthiadau amrywiol). Various classes benefited as a result of several educational visits during the term, as well as individuals/groups visiting the school: Neath Fair (Foundation Phase); Castell Henllys (Yrs.5&6); Aberafan Beach (Yrs.1&2); Enterprise Day at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera (Yr.6); ‘In Character’ Theatre company: the story of Boadicea; St. David’s Church, Neath (Yrs.1&2); St. Thomas’ Church, Neath (Yrs.1&2); John Richards, historian [The Romans] (Yrs.3&4); Aled Phillips, Cardiac Physiologist (Yrs.3&4); Thomas Cook Travel Agency, Neath (Yrs.1&2); Caerffili Castle (Yrs.3&4); Castle (Reception); Visits to Neath Town & Gnoll Park (various classes).

Cynllun Gwella Ysgol / School Improvement Plan 2016-‘17

Dyma grynodeb o’n CGY , gan gynnwys y rhesymwaith a’r amcanion sy’n gefndir i bob targed unigol: a. Presenoldeb a Lles Rhesymwaith Yr ysgol yn ymateb i un o brif argymhellion Adroddiad Arolygu Estyn (Mawrth 2016); Er bod ein canrannau presenoldeb swyddogol diweddaraf, sef 95.6% [2014‘15] (wedi’u dilysu gan Lywodraeth Cymru Ionawr 2016) yn yr ‘ail chwartel’ o fewn ein Grŵp Meincnodi, bu ein canrannau presenoldeb yn y 3ydd a’r 4ydd chwartel gydol y pum mlynedd flaenorol (2009‘10 hyd 2013’14); Yn ogystal mae ein canrannau answyddogol diweddaraf, sef 94.9% [2015’16] (heb eu dilysu tan Ionawr 2017) yn debygol o’n gosod ni nôl yn y 3ydd/4ydd chwartel; Nifer o’r disgyblion (teuluoedd) sydd â phresenoldeb gwael hefyd yn achosi pryder o ran eu cynnydd academaidd.

Amcanion Cynyddu canrannau presenoldeb yr ysgol, trwy godi proffil ‘presenoldeb’; Codi ymwybyddiaeth ymhlith rhieni o bwysigrwydd presenoldeb eu plant yn yr ysgol a’r effaith y gall presenoldeb isel gael ar eu haddysg; Annog y rhieni i beidio â threfnu gwyliau yn ystod y tymor; Gwella hunanymwybyddiaeth disgyblion o les personol. b. Cynllunio’n briodol er mwyn bodloni holl ofynion Addysg Grefyddol Rhesymwaith Yr ysgol yn ymateb i un o brif argymhellion Adroddiad Arolygu Estyn (Mawrth 2016).

Sicrhau bod safonau yn cael eu cynnal ar draws dosbarthiadau’r Cyfnod Sylfaen Anelu at gael mwy o blant i ddatblygu’n ddysgwyr annibynnol yn y Cyfnod Sylfaen I sicrhau cyfleoedd addas i ddysgu am grefyddau eraill, yn ogystal â Christnogaeth. ch. Gweithredu’r Fframwaith Cymhwysedd Digidol a chodi safonau mewn TGCh ar draws yr ysgol Rhesymwaith Y Fframwaith Cymhwysedd Digidol yn dod i fodolaeth ym Medi 2016, a disgwylir i ysgolion gynllunio ar gyfer, a gweithredu’r Fframwaith.

Amcanion I godi’r canrannau o ddisgyblion diwedd CA2 sy‘n cyrraedd Lefel 5 yn y pynciau craidd I godi’r canrannau o ddisgyblion diwedd CS sy’n cyrraedd Deilliant 6 ar draws y tri maes.

Here is a summary of our SIP, inclusive of the rationale and objectives that underpin each individual target: a. Attendance and Well-being Rationale Response by the school to one of the main recommendations of our recent Estyn Inspection Report (March 2016); Even though our most recent ‘official’ attendance percentages, i.e. 95.6% [2014‘15] (ratified by Welsh Government January 2016) place us in the ‘second quartile’ within our Benchmarking Group, our attendance percentages placed us in the 3 rd and 4th quartiles throughout the previous five years (2009‘10 to 2013’14); In addition, our most recent ‘unofficial’ percentages, i.e. 94.9% [2015’16] (won’t be ratified until January 2017) are likely to place us back in the 3 rd and 4 th quartiles; Several pupils (families) with poor attendance levels also cause concern for us in terms of their academic progress.

Objectives To increase attendance percentages, by raising the profile of ‘attendance’; To raise awareness amongst parents of the importance of regular attendance and the negative effect of low attendance on their education; Encourage parents not to arrange holidays during term time; To raise pupils’ selfawareness of personal wellbeing. b. Ensure that the school plans appropriately in order to meet all Religious Education requirements Rationale Response by the school to one of the main recommendations of our recent Estyn Inspection Report (March 2016).

Objectives To ensure appropriate opportunities to learn about other religions, in addition to Christianity.

c. Provide enough opportunities across areas of learning in the Foundation Phase for pupils to make choices and act independently Rationale Response by the school to one of the main recommendations of our recent Estyn Inspection Report (March 2016).

Objectives To ensure that all teachers work together effectively to provide greater opportunities for pupils to become independent learners To ensure that high standards are maintained across all Foundation Phase classes Aim at developing greater numbers of independent learners at Foundation Phase ch. To implement the Digital Competence Framework and raise standards in ICT across the Rationale The Digital Competence Framework comes into existence in September 2016: schools are expected to plan for, and implement, the Framework.

Objectives Ensure a greater understanding of the requirements of the DCF.

d. To increase the percentage of children who achieve the higher levels by the end of FP and KS2 Rationale End of KS2 Teacher Assessment results (2016) in the core subjects suggest that we need to increase the numbers of pupils achieving Level 5:

To a much lesser degree, End of FP Teacher Assessment results (2016) suggest that we need to increase the numbers of pupils achieving Outcome 6:

Objectives To increase the percentage of End of KS2 pupils who achieve Level 5 in the core subjects. To increase the percentage of End of FP pupils who achieve Outcome 6 in the three areas of learning.

Materion Ysgol / School Matters

• Mae’r ysgol wedi datgan diddordeb swyddogol yn adeilad y Llys Sirol, ac wedi gwneud ymholiadau pellach ynghylch caffael yr adeilad at ddefnydd yr ysgol hon. The school has submitted its official interest the empty County Court building for the purposes of establishing an annexe to our school.

• Bu’r Plismon Ken Bowen yn ymwelydd cyson â’r ysgol, yn cefnogi ein rhaglen Addysg Bersonol a Chymdeithasol: Cadw’n ddiogel ar y We (Bl.4 & 6); Ffrind neu elyn (Bl.2); Moddion (Bl.1); ‘Eich dewis chi’ (cyffuriau) (Bl.6); Ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol (Bl.5). PC Ken Bowen has been a welcome and regular visitor at the school, supporting our extensive Personal and Social Education programme: Keeping safe on the Internet (Yrs. 4 & 6); Friend or foe (Yr.2); Medicine (Yr.1); ‘Your choice’ (drugs) (Yr.6); Antisocial behaviour (Yr.5).

• Bu’r Swyddog Jordan Crealock yn siarad am beryglon tân a diogelwch rhag tân, gyda disgyblion Bl. 2 & 5. Officer Jordan Crealock addressed pupils in Years 2 & 5 regarding the dangers of, and safety issues, involving fire.

• Daeth Mrs Jayne Bradley, ein Swyddog Presenoldeb a Lles, i annerch holl ddisgyblion CA2 ynghylch pwysigrwydd presenoldeb da iawn. Mrs Jayne Bradley, our Attendance and Wellbeing Officer, addressed all KS2 pupils regarding the importance of very good attendance.

• Cynhaliwyd gwasanaeth ysgol gyfan dan ofal aelodau’r Pwyllgor Eco. Our Eco Schools committee conducted a very informative whole school assembly.

• Cynhaliwyd ‘Wythnos Gyfeillgarwch a Charedigrwydd’ ar draws yr ysgol ym mis Tachwedd 2016: trefnwyd gweithgareddau yn ymwneud â chariad y teulu, ffrindiau, y gymuned a lles personol. We conducted a ‘Friendship and Kindness Week’ across the school back in November 2016: issues relating to family love, friends, the community and personal wellbeing were addressed.

• Daeth un o swyddogion Menter Iaith CnPT i’r ysgol i sefydlu ein Gorsaf Radio, sy’n un o dargedau Gwobr Arian y Siarter Iaith. An officer from Menter Iaith NPT visited the school to set up a Radio Station, which is one of the Language Charter’s Silver Award targets.

• Daeth Mrs Sheila Pugh, ‘Masnach Deg’ i gynnal gwasanaeth ar gyfer disgyblion Bl. 2 – 6. Mrs Sheila Pugh, ‘Fair Trade’ conducted an assembly with pupils from Years 2 – 6.

• Rydym wedi cofrestru ar gyfer bod yn ‘Ysgol Parchu Hawliau’. We registered to become a ‘Rights Respecting School’.

• Yn dilyn proses o ymgynghori, dewiswyd yr enw Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera: Campws Bro Dur ar gyfer yr ysgol 1116 oed newydd yn Sandfields, . Roedd pedwar o blant Bl.5/6 yn rhan o grŵp o 12 o’r tair ysgol oedd yn ymweld â’r safle adeiladu ac yn creu dyddiadur fideo o’r datblygiad. Following a full consultation process, the name Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera: Campws Bro Dur has been adopted for the new 1116 comprehensive in Sandfields, Port Talbot . Four of our Years 5/6 pupils were chosen to form a group of 12 children from the three ‘feeder’ who visited the site and started to create a video diary of the development.

• Gwyddom bellach fod nifer fawr o bobl yn ymweld â’n tudalen Trydar ni er mwyn gweld y newyddion diweddaraf o’r ysgol boed yn lluniau, fideos neu’n negeseuon. Gwerthfawrogwn yr ymateb ffafriol yma, ac er mwyn ehangu ar ein cynulleidfa rydym wedi sefydlu tudalen Gweplyfr/Facebook newydd ar gyfer yr ysgol. Tudalen swyddogol ydyw, sy’n rhannu’r un newyddion ag a welir ar ein cyfrif Twitter. Y rheswm dros sefydlu’r dudalen Facebook yw ein bod yn ymwybodol bod mwy o bobl yn defnyddio Facebook na Twitter. Wrth gwrs, yn unol â’n polisi eddiogelwch nid fforwm i lwyfannu unrhyw gwynion a phardduo yw’r dudalen, ond yn hytrach tudalen i rannu newyddion am yr ysgol. We are aware that more and more people visit our Twitter page regularly to keep up to date with the latest news and events within the school videos, photos and messages. We very much appreciate the positive feedback we receive and we have decided to try to expand our audience by starting a Facebook page for the school, which will mirror our Twitter page. The reason being is that more people are using Facebook than Twitter! In accordance with our esafety policy, this page is not an opportunity to voice any concerns you may have or to post any negative comments. It will be used to share information and photos/videos about the school and daily events.

• Hyfforddiant diogelwch ar yr heol ‘Kerbcraft’ wythnosol i holl blant Bl.2. Weekly ‘Kerbcraft’ road safety training for all pupils in Year 2.

• Mynychwyd cynhadledd ‘Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau’ yn Nhŷ’r Gwrhyd, gan Mrs Appleby a phedwar disgybl o Flwyddyn 4 a 5. Y siaradwraig wadd oedd Sally Holland, Comisiynydd Plant Cymru. Mrs Appleby and four pupils from Years 4 and 5, attended a ‘Rights Respecting Schools’ conference at Tŷ’r Gwrhyd, Pontardawe. • Datblygiadau’r Siarter Iaith / Language Charter initiatives :  Daeth pennaeth a phedwar aelod o Gyngor Ysgol YGG Gwaun Cae Gurwen i’n hasesu, o ran ein cais llwyddiannus i dderbyn ‘Y Wobr Arian’. / The headteacher and four School Council members from YGG Gwaun Cae Gurwen visited our school, to confirm our ‘Silver’ accreditation.  Mei , cyfansoddwr a chanwr pop, yn recordio cân y Siarter Iaith gyda disgyblion Bl.5&6 / Mei Gwynedd, pop composer and artist, recorded the Language Charter song with our Years 5&6 pupils.  Buddsoddwyd mewn sustem sain ac uchelseinydd ar gyfer iard yr ysgol, fydd yn ein caniatáu i chwarae caneuon Cymraeg adeg amseroedd egwyl / We’ve invested in an external sound system and amplifier, which allows us to play Welsh songs during break times.  ‘Gig Pop’ Y Siarter Iaith’ i blant Bl.5&6 / ‘Pop Gig’ for Years 5&6 (YG Y’fera)

• Daeth swyddogion o’r NSPCC i gynnal diwrnod ‘Cofia Ddweud; Cadwa’n Ddiogel’ gyda phlant Bl.1–6, yn cynnwys gwasanaethau codi ymwybyddiaeth, a gweithdai gyda’r plant hynaf, yn ogystal â gweithdy gyda rhieni. NSPCC officers conducted a ‘Speak Out; Stay Safe Day’ with our pupils in Years 1 – 6, including awarenessraising assemblies, and workshops for our senior pupils, as well as parents.

• Côr yr ysgol yn derbyn y 3edd wobr yng nghystadleuaeth genedlaethol ‘Carol yr Ŵyl’ ar raglen ‘Prynhawn Da’ S4C . . . am yr eildro mewn tair blynedd. Llongyfarchiadau mawr i Mrs James a’r plant! Our school choir was awarded 3 rd prize in the national Christmas Carol competition organised by S4C’s ‘Prynhawn Da’ programme . . . for the second time in three years. Congratulations to Mrs James and the children!

• Llongyfarchiadau i Cadi Mair Williams, 4L ar ei llwyddiant yng nghystadleuaeth Cerdyn Nadolig ein Haelod Seneddol, Christina Rees. Derbyniodd Cadi gerdyn wedi’i argraffu a’i lofnodi ganddi. Congratulations to Cadi Mair Williams, 4L for her success in this last year’s Christmas card competition run by Christina Rees, MP. Cadi was presented with a printed and signed card by the Mrs Rees.

• Gwahoddwyd côr yr ysgol i berfformio yng Nghyngerdd Garolau Blynyddol y BBC yn Neuadd Dewi Sant, Caerdydd, a ddarlledwyd ar y radio dros yr Ŵyl. Dewiswyd Mea Verallo i ganu unawd. Our school choir were invited to perform at the BBC’s Annual Christmas Carol Service, which was broadcast on the radio on Christmas Day. Mea Verallo was chosen to sing a solo.

• Llongyfarchiadau mawr i Mali Loader, 6C a Milly Walters, 5J a fu’n fuddugol yng nghystadleuaeth goginio CogUrdd yr ysgol hon, ac i Mali a ddaeth yn ail yn y gystadleuaeth i holl ysgolion Abertawe/CnPT. Congratulations to Mali Loader, 6C and Milly Walters, 5J who were both victorious in this school’s CogUrdd cookery competition, and to Mali who was placed second in the NPT/ final round.

• Mae’r holl blant a gynrychiolodd yr ysgol yn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr Urdd ym Mhenybont ar Ogwr yn haeddu clod enfawr. Bu ein plant yn cystadlu mewn dim llai na DEG cystadleuaeth wahanol . . . sy’n record i ni!! • Eisteddfod Gadeiriol yr Ysgol: Llys Drumau yn fuddugol. Enillwyd y prif wobrau llenyddol gan Mali Loader, 6C (Y Goron), Ashton Hewitt, 6C (Y Fedal Saesneg) a Steffan Thomas, 6C (Y Gadair). School Eisteddfod: Drumau house was victorious. The major literary awards were won by Mali Loader, 6C (The Crown), Ashton Hewitt, 6C (English Medal) and Steffan Thomas (The Chair).

• Tîm o chwe disgybl o Flwyddyn 5&6 yn cystadlu mewn cystadleuaeth fathemateg ‘Mathletau’ i blant sgolion clwstwr Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. A team of six Year 5&6 pupils competed in a mathematics competition, involving Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera’s cluster primary schools.

• Disgyblion Bl. 6 yn mynychu gweithdai iechyd a diogelwch ‘Criw Croch’ yng Nghastell . Year 6 children attend the ‘Crucial Crew’ health and safety workshops at .

• Arddangosfa’r ‘Criw Celf’ yn Amgueddfa’r Glannau, Abertawe: dewiswyd Gwen Lewis, Mali Loader, Lowri Morris, Nia Trace a Lili Walford, ar sail ansawdd eu gwaith a gyflwynwyd o flaen llaw. ‘Art Squad’ exhibition at the Waterfront Museum, Swansea: Gwen Lewis, Mali Loader, Lowri Morris, Nia Trace and Lili Walford were selected to attend, on the basis of portfolios submitted.

• Taith gerdded o Lynnedd i Gastellnedd, ar hyd y gamlas, i ddisgyblion Blwyddyn 6 Hike from to Neath, along the canal bank, for Year 6 pupils

• Criw mawr o blant Blwyddyn 6 ein hysgol yn rhan o Gôr Ysgolion Clwstwr Ystalyfera yn Stadiwm y Liberty, Abertawe, a ddiddanodd torf o filoedd, cyn ac yn ystod gêm Y Gweilch Vs Caeredin. Our Year 6 pupils formed a section of the massed Ystalyfera Cluster Schools Choir that performed at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea, in front of a crowd of thousands before and during the Vs Edinburgh rugby match.

• Disgyblion sy’n derbyn gwersi offerynnol yn yr ysgol yn perfformio yn y ‘Proms Offerynnol’ yn Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. Cyngerdd ardderchog ar ddiwedd y dydd! Pupils who receive weekly instrumental tuition at school performed in the ‘Instrumental Proms’ at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. An excellent concert at the end of the day!

• Plant Blwyddyn 3, 4, 5 a 6 yn mynychu cyrsiau preswyl yng Nghanolfan Amgylcheddol Parc Margam, Gwersyll yr Urdd Llangrannog, Gwersyll yr Urdd Glanllyn a Fferm Maes y Fron, Abercraf. Pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 attended residential courses at Margam Park Environmental Centre, Llangrannog Urdd Centre, Glanllyn Urdd Centre and Maes y Fron Farm, Abercrave.

Nodau Chwaraeon / Sporting aims

Yn gyffredinol, prif nodau dysgu Addysg Gorfforol yw annog a helpu pob plentyn i fyw bywyd iachus a bywiog, ac i hyrwyddo datblygiad priodweddau dymunol megis ymdrech, chwarae teg, cydchwarae, dyfalbarhad, gorchest a hunan hyder

Ceisia'r staff gyflawni'r nodau yma trwy gynnig amrediad eang o weithgareddau i blant o bob oedran, tu fewn a thu allan i'r cwricwlwm ffurfiol, gan eu herio i ddatblygu a gwella'u perfformiadau unigol. Mae'r gweithgareddau yma'n cynnwys Gymnasteg, Dawns, Gêmau, Nofio, Athletau a Gweithgareddau Awyr Agored ac Antur.

Defnyddir cyfleusterau cymunedol yn cynnwys Cae Ysgol y Gnoll a Baddonau Heol Dyfed ynghyd ag iard yr ysgol i sicrhau ystod eang o gyfleoedd i’r disgyblion i ymarfer.

Caiff y plant gyfle i flasu amrywiaeth eang o gampau gan gynnwys pêl rwyd, rygbi, pêl droed, criced, tennis, athletau a dawnsio gwerin, a chyfle i nofio. Caiff y plant eu hyfforddi gan athrawon yr ysgol ac fe fanteisir ar bob cyfle i gael arbenigedd o’r tu allan.

10 YSGOL GYMRAEG CASTELL-NEDD

Broadly speaking, the aims of the teaching of Physical Education are to encourage and help all our children to lead healthy and active lifestyles and to promote the development of the desirable personal attributes and qualities of endeavour, fair play, teamwork, perseverance, sense of achievement and selfesteem.

Our staff set out to fulfil these aims by offering pupils of all ages a wide range of activities, both in the timetabled curriculum and outside normal lessons, in which they are faced with different kinds of challenges and are encouraged to improve upon their own individual performances. These include Gymnastics, Dance, Swimming, Athletics, Outdoor and Adventurous activities, and Games.

In addition to using the school yard, community facilities are utilised at Gnoll Primary School’s field and Dyfed Road Baths to ensure that pupils have suitable practice areas for sport.

Children have the opportunity to play netball, football, rugby, cricket, tennis and hockey and have swimming and Athletics lessons. Tuition is given by members of staff and outside expertise is used whenever possible.

2016-’17 was another year of great sporting success for this school!

Tair merch (Mali Loader, Lowri Phillips a Lili Walford) o’n hysgol wedi cynrychioli Carfan Bêl Rwyd Siarter Iaith Clwstwr Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, mewn gêmau yn erbyn ysgolion clwstwr Y Berwyn, Bala ar ddechrau mis Hydref. Three girls (Mali Loader, Lowri Phillips a Lili Walford ) from this school were selected to represent Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera Cluster’s Language Charter Netball Squad in matches against Ysgol Y Berwyn, Bala cluster schools in early October.

Aled Richards ac Elen Pemberton yn cipio safleoedd 1af yng Ngala Nofio rhanbarth Abertawe/Castellnedd Port Talbot o’r Urdd. Perfformiodd y ddau ohonynt gyda chlod yn y Gala Genedla ethol yng Nghaerdydd yn Ionawr. Aled Richards and Elen Pemberton secured 1 st places at the Swansea/ Urdd Swimming Gala. Both performed very creditably at the National Gala in Cardiff in January.

Phoebe Colwill, 5A yn bencampwraig unigol Cystadleuaeth Trawsgwlad Ysgolion C’nedd Port Talbot. Yn ogystal, fe gipiodd y 6ed safle ym Mhencampwriaeth Traws Gwlad CnPT/Abertawe yn Abertawe wythnos diwethaf, a fe’i dewiswyd i gynrychioli Gorllewin Morgannwg ym Mhencampwriaethau Ysgolion Cymru yn Aberhonddu. Phoebe Cowill, 5A was crowned Neath Port Talbot Cross Country individual champion. She also achieved 6th place in the NPT/Swansea Cross Country championships in Swansea last week, and was selected to represent West at the Wales Schools’ Championships in Brecon.

The school’s Prospectus was reviewed and amended to reflect current dates, staffing and statistics. Our new School Prospectus is distributed to the parents/guardians of every Nursery child moving up to the Reception class in September, during the previous Autumn Term. Parents of every new child, of whatever age, will also receive a copy of our Prospectus. In addition, any other parent, or member of the community, can ask for a copy free of charge. Our current Prospectus can also be accessed on our School Website.

Cwricwlwm yr Ysgol / School Curriculum

Cynlluniwyd ystod eang o brofiadau addysgol er mwyn diwallu anghenion pob plentyn. Rhoddir pwyslais ar brofiadau uniongyrchol i blant fel sail i’r dysgu ac mae’r cwricwlwm wedi’i greu i fod yn ddiddorol, yn ymestynnol, yn eang ac yn berthnasol. Bydd yn gwricwlwm cynhwysfawr ac yn cynnwys gofynion y Cyfnod Sylfaen yng Nghymru (o 3 i 7 oed), a gofynion y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol (o 7 i 11 oed). Asesu  Asesir plant yn statudol o fewn chwe wythnos o ddechrau yn yr ysgol yn y dosbarth Derbyn er mwyn sefydlu eu man cychwyn.  Ceir asesiadau pellach ar ddiwedd y Cyfnod Sylfaen yn 7 oed.  Yng Nghyfnod Allweddol 2, mae asesiadau athrawon statudol diwedd y Cyfnod Allweddol yn cofnodi cyrhaeddiad disgyblion.  Disgwylir i bob plentyn o Flwyddyn 2 hyd Flwyddyn 6 sefyll y profion cenedlaethol mewn Darllen (Cymraeg) a Rhifedd (Gweithdrefnol a Rhesymu), a phlant o Flwyddyn 3 hyd Flwyddyn 6 mewn Darllen (Saesneg) yn ogystal, ym mis Mai.

A wide range of educational experiences are planned to meet the individual needs of every child. Emphasis is placed on giving children direct experiences as stimuli to the learning process. The curriculum aims to be interesting, broad and relevant. The content of the curriculum is comprehensive and includes the requirements of the Foundation Phase in Wales (3–7 year olds) and the National Curriculum (711 year olds). The curriculum nurtures the child as an individual, and gives him/her the opportunity to develop intellectually and at the same time develop awareness of community and fellow man, of the world and of life.

The Foundation Phase There are six areas of learning that form the Foundation Phase Curriculum. Emphasis has been placed on developing children’s knowledge, skills and understanding through experiential learning – learning by doing and solving real life problems both inside and outside the classroom. The six areas of learning are: Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity Language, Literacy and Communication Skills Mathematical Development Knowledge and Understanding of the World Physical Development Creative Development

The Primary Phase for 7 – 11 year olds (Key Stage 2) Children from 7 to 11 are taught according to the requirements of the National Curriculum. At Key Stage 2, the National Curriculum consists of:

 Core Subjects – Welsh, English, Mathematics and Science  Foundation Subjects – Information Technology, Design and Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music and Physical Education

The basic curriculum also consists of Religious Education and Personal and Social Education (PSE) Assessment o Pupils are statutorily assessed within the first six weeks of starting school in the Nursery class. o There are further assessments at the end of the Foundation Phase. o At Key Stage 2, statutory teacher assessments are used to record pupils’ attainment at the end of KS2. o Pupils from Years 2 to 6 take part in the Literacy (Welsh reading) and Numeracy (Procedural and Reasoning) National Tests, and an additional test in Literacy (English reading) for pupils in Years 3 – 6, every May.

We recognise that all teachers have a responsibility for children with Additional Learning Needs.

The school also recognises that some children may require special help at some time in order to benefit fully from the curriculum the school offers. Every child who has additional learning needs will receive regular support within a small group situation, supporting their daily work within the children’s own classrooms, as well as being withdrawn for teaching sessions which focus specifically on their Individual Education Plans. Our school's written policy conforms to the S.E.N. 'Code of Practice', and is available to parents for inspection on request to the Headteacher, or alternatively by accessing a copy on our School Website.

Children with A.L.N. are identified by means of: • observations, assessments and class teachers' notes; and by comparing children's achievements and progress; • standardised reading and spelling tests, both in Welsh and English;

• standardised Numeracy tests; • statutory assessment results.

We conduct formal and informal discussions with parents regarding their children's needs; then the child is placed on our S.E.N. Register.

The Graduated Approach in the Primary Phase

School Action:

When a class teacher identifies that a pupil has, or may have, ALN, the class teacher devises interventions additional to, or different from, those provided as part of the school’s usual differentiated curriculum: The class teacher remains responsible for working with the child on a daily basis and for planning and delivering an individualised programme. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be devised. The ALN Coordinator could take the lead in – Planning future intervention for the child in discussion with colleagues; Monitoring and reviewing the action.

School Action Plus:

The ALN Coordinator and the class teacher, in consultation with parents, ask for help from external services;

Class teacher and the ALN Coordinator are provided with advice or support from outside specialists; Additional or different strategies to those of School Action are put in place; An IEP will be devised; The ALN Coordinator should take the lead in: Any further assessment of the child Planning future interventions for the child in discussions with colleagues Monitoring and reviewing the action taken.

At the other end of the spectrum, the ablest pupils are challenged by providing extension work to enrich their curriculum.

The school has a service level agreement with the L.E.A.’s Education Department to provide support services for A.L.N. These services are used to provide advice for teachers on teaching strategies for specific children, and to assist classroom teachers and the A.L.N. Coordinator in producing Individual Education Plans. The Educational Psychology Service provides informal advice and/or conducts formal assessments. In addition, staff may be provided by the Authority in accordance with a pupil's statement.

The school has an Accessibility Policy to support inclusion for all.

Members of the local community have experienced the following activities, concerts etc. organised by, or involving the school: Nursery, Reception, Years 1&2, Years 3&4, Years 5&6 Christmas concerts at the school; Our school choir performed at the Alzheimers Society’s Christmas Carol Service at St. David’s Church, Neath. Our Year 6 pupils formed a section of the massed Ystalyfera Cluster Schools Choir that performed at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea, in front of a crowd of thousands before and during the Ospreys Vs Edinburgh rugby match; Year 6 pupils entertained the patients at Tonna Hospital, as part of our St. David’s Day celebrations;

Individuals, parties and our choir took part in a St. David’s Day Concert at St. David’s Church, Neath; Our School Choir performed fantastically at the Neath Choral Festival at St. David’s Church; KS2 children sang and danced in Lloyd’s Bank, to entertain customers; Children from our school took part in a St. David’s Day Parade in Neath town centre, organised by the Language Venture; Instrumental concert (brass, harp, strings & woodwind) for parents; Pupils from Reception to Year 6 entertained Christmas shoppers, and raised a sizeable sum of money for two charities close to our hearts, in memory of Ellis;

o Ffair Nadolig, Ffair Haf ac Arwerthiant Blodau’r Gwanwyn yn agored i’r gymuned. Christmas Fayre, Summer Fayre and Spring Flower Sale open to the wider community.

o Gwnawn ddefnydd achlysurol o aelodau o'r glerigiaeth ac unigolion lleyg yn ein gwasanaethau ysgol. From time to time members of the clergy and lay people are invited to school to address our school assemblies.

o Mae yna gysylltiadau agos yn bodoli rhwng ein hysgol ni ag Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, ac yn ystod y flwyddyn academaidd ddiwethaf rydym wedi cydweithio mewn amrywiaeth eang o weithgareddau. Close links exist between Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and ourselves, and during the last academic year we have worked cooperatively in a wide variety of activities.

o Daeth Mr Kelvin Rees i godi ymwybyddiaeth am waith Banc Bwyd Castellnedd, ymhlith holl ddisgyblion yr ysgol. O ganlyniad, cyfrannodd ein rhieni yn hael iawn at yr achos da iawn hwn. Mr Kelvin Rees addressed the whole school, in order to raise awareness of the work of the Neath Food Bank. As a result, our parents contributed very generously to this very good cause.

o Disgyblion Blwyddyn 6 yn cymryd rhan weithredol yng Ngŵyl Canol Oesoedd Castellnedd. Our Year 6 pupils took an active role at the Neath Medieval Festival.

o Defnyddiwyd yr ysgol fel man cyfarfod ar gyfer y grwpiau canlynol: Côr Polyphonic Castellnedd, Cwrs ‘Cymraeg i’r teulu’. The school was used as a meeting place for the following groups: Neath Polyphonic Choir, ‘Welsh for the family’ course.

Ein nôd yw darparu cyfle cyfartal i bawb. Ceir rhai cyfleusterau i’r anabl ar y safle. Our aim is to provide equal opportunities for all. There are some facilities for the disabled on site.

Cyfleusterau tai bach / Toilet facilities

Lleolir 23 ciwbicl tŷ bach a 3 troethle ar draws pedair ardal adeilad yr ysgol, yn cynnwys 3 sydd â mynediad a chyfleusterau i’r anabl. Mae’r cyfleusterau yn addas ar gyfer oed y plant sy’n eu defnyddio. Ceir 4 tŷ bach ychwanegol at ddefnydd staff ac ymwelwyr yn unig. Glanheir y tai bach yn ddyddiol. There are 23 toilet cubicles and 3 urinals located in the four separate areas of the school buildings, 3 of which have full disabled access and facilities. The facilities are appropriate to the age of the children who use them. There are 4 additional toilet areas for the exclusive use of school staff and visitors. All toilet areas are cleaned on a daily basis.

Cyffredinol:

1. Roedd Gorffennaf 2017 yn ddiwedd cyfnod i dri deg un o blant yr ysgol, wrth iddynt symud ‘mlaen at addysg uwchradd yn Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera/Bro Dur ym mis Medi 2017. Dymunwn y gorau iddynt ar gyfer y dyfodol gan ddiolch iddynt am eu cyfraniadau arwyddocaol at lwyddiant yr ysgol hon. July 2017 was the end of an era for thirty one children in Year 6, as they moved on to secondary education at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera/Bro Dur in September 2017. We wish them well for the future and thank them for their significant contribution to this school.

2. Estynnwyd croeso i ddau aelod newydd o’n staff yn ystod y flwyddyn ysgol (Medi 2016 – Gorffennaf 2017), sef Mr Efan Ellis (Athro Bl.1E) a Miss Giorgia Price (Cynorthwy-ydd Addysgu yn y CS. We welcomed two new members of staff during the school year (September 2016 – July 2017), namely Mr Efan Ellis (Teacher in Yr.1E) and Miss Giorgia Price (Teaching Assistant in various FP classes .

3. Yn ystod y flwyddyn ysgol ddiwethaf, ffarweliwyd ag aelodau o’n staff: During the last academic year we bade farewell to members of our current staff:

Mr Arwel Walters , ar ôl gwasanaethu’r ysgol hon dros gyfnod o 30 o flynyddoedd o wasanaeth ffyddlon iawn. Mae Mr Walters wedi gwneud cyfraniad mawr at yr ysgol, fel athro dosbarth a chyd-weithiwr poblogaidd iawn. Mr Arwel Walters, after faithfully serving this school for the last 30 years . Mr Walters has made a great contribution to our school, as a popular classroom teacher and very well-liked colleague.

Penderfynnodd Mr Efan Ellis ei fod am ddilyn y bennod nesaf o’i yrfa dysgu yn nes at ei gartref ym Mro Morgannwg, o fis Medi 2017 ‘mlaen. Diolchwn iddo am ei waith graenus yn ystod y flwyddyn, a dymunwn y gorau iddo yn y dyfodol. Mr Efan Ellis decided to pursue the next stage of his teaching career nearer his home in the . We are very grateful to him for his high level of commitment throughout this year, and wish him the very best for the future.

Yfed a Bwyta'n Iach / Healthy Eating and Drinking I atgyfnerthu'n nodau chwaraeon, mae'r ysgol yn hyrwyddo bwyta ac yfed iach ac anogir disgyblion a'u rhieni i fwyta'n iach. Dosbarthwyd taflenni i ddisgyblion a'u rhieni, yn eu hannog i ddarparu blychau cinio iach. Paratoir bwydlenni ar lefel Awdurdod sy'n sicrhau'r lefel gywir o faeth. Anogir disgyblion i yfed dŵr wrth weithio ac y maent yn ymwybodol o bwysigrwydd hydradiad y corff. Mae disgyblion Blwyddyn 6 yn darparu siop ffrwythau iach yn foreol.

To complement the school's sporting aims, the school promotes healthy eating and drinking, pupils are encouraged to eat healthily. Leaflets have been distributed to pupils and parents encouraging them to provide healthy lunch boxes. School menus are prepared at Authority level to ensure the correct nutrition level. Pupils are encouraged to drink whilst working and are aware of the importance of remaining hydrated. The school council maintains a fruit shop during break every morning.

End of Key Stage 2 (11 year olds): Percentage of pupils attaining at least level 4 in the National Curriculum Teacher Assessments

Teacher Targets Comment on Targets for Assessments for 2017 for 2017 results and 2018 2019 2020 targets for 2017 Despite t he fact that we fell short of the very ambitious 93 95 87 Welsh 94 97 targets set, at the beginning of Year 6, for this group of learners, we were nevertheless delighted with the results achieved.
