She has supported artists including Katie Melua and Carla Bruni. Her album, A Fool in Love, features authentic jazz/soul, raw grooves and rhythm. Equally at home in the studio or in concert, Florence is a natural performer with a fresh but mature sound. She has performed at a number of top European festivals including: The Isle of Wight festival, 02 Wireless, and Bestival. Florence was also invited by Tom Jones to be his special guest on his European tour, during which she performed to 300,000 people, including 12 arena shows in Britain. Q LIVE NOVEMBER 2017 DJ Jamie Friday 3rd November // 00:20-03:00 Son of legendary David Rodigan, Jamie has been surrounded by music his whole life. His childhood played a pivotal role throughout his life. He was heavily influenced by reggae music from a young age, and his eclectic DJ sets today reflect these musical experiences growing up. His range spans from Rare Groove and House to Jungle and Garage. He is a resident for dancehall night ‘Mudd Up!’ in london, and hosts shows on top urban station ‘Bang Radio’ and ‘Mi Soul’. Youth Saturday 11th November // 21:00-23:00 Georgia is fast emerging as one of London's brightest up and coming young artists. Compared to the late Amy Winehouse and Paloma Faith, Georgia performs both in the UK and internationally, often accompanied by Jools Hollands’ bassist. Georgia has featured on ‘Janice Loves’, part of Janice Long’s Radio 2 #aftermidnight show. She has also been played on BBC Radio London’s Gary Crowley Show and the Mark Forrest Show. Interviewed by Dan Roberts of BBC Radio London and Mark Forrest, Georgia has performed live at The Hampton Court Flower Show filmed by the BBC and also with her full band at The Scoop London Bridge for BBC Introducing. As a 3-piece the band are original and electrifying, extending to a full band complete with horn section. Q LIVE NOVEMBER 2017 Sounds of London Saturday 11th November // 23:00-00:20 Sounds of London’s member have an array of experience that share years of training at the Royal Academy of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire and Trinity School of Music. They have performed with the likes of Elton John, Alexandra Burke, Jacqui Dankworth, Anita Dobson, Kerry Ellis and The BBC Concert Orchestra. You may also have caight some of them on stage in the West End and around the UK in productions such as Motown the Musical, Sister Act, Hairspray, Guys and Dolls and Saturday Night Fever.

CONFESSIONS OF A BLACK FEMALE RAPPER: AN AUTOETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY ON NAVIGATING SELFHOOD AND THE MUSIC INDUSTRY by CHINWE MAPONYA-COOK Under the DireCtion of Jonathan Gayles, PhD ABSTRACT The following research explores the ways in whiCh a BlaCk female rapper navigates her selfhood and traditional expeCtations of the musiC industry. By examining four overarching themes in the literature review - Hip-Hop, raCe, gender and agency - the author used observations of prominent BlaCk female rappers spanning over five deCades, as well as personal experiences, to detail an autoethnographiC aCCount of self-development alongside pursuing a musiC career. MethodologiCally, the author wrote journal entries to detail her experiences, as well as wrote and performed an aCCompanying original mixtape entitled The Thesis (available on all streaming platforms), as a creative addition to the research.

INTRODUCTION The Georgia House of Representatives created the House Georgia Music Industry Study Committee (“Committee”) in 2013 through the passage of House Resolution 529. Recognizing that the music industry has long generated significant economic, educational and cultural benefits statewide but that globally, music business models are dramatically changing as the digital marketplace shifts the way music is created, delivered, marketed and consumed, the Committee was formed to evaluate the issues facing Georgia’s music industry, identify opportunities and explore strategies to retain existing industry and talent and ensure future growth, investment and jobs. The Committee was chaired by Representative Ben Harbin (122 nd ) and included four (4) additional legislative members: Representative Matt Hatchett (150 th ); Representative Lee Hawkins (27 th ); Representative Margaret Kaiser (59 th ); and Representative Brian Strickland (111 th ). The legislative staff member assigned to assist the Committee was Ms. Jeneé Burke, House Budget and Research Office.

    Human Rights in Closed Institutions Report of National Preventive Mechanism of Georgia 2012 NATIONAL PREVENTIVE MECHANISM Situation at Penitentiary Establishments Present Report covers the findings of the monitoring of penitentiary establishments, police departments and temporary detention isolators carried out by the Special Preventive Group of the Prevention and Monitoring Department of the Office of Public Defender of Georgia exercising its power within the National Preventive Mechanism mandate in 2012. Participation of the representatives of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) together with National Preventive Mechanism team in the monitoring of penitentiary establishments located in Eastern Georgia was ensured within the framework of joint project of PDO and GYLA aiming the support of National Preventive Mechanism. Monitoring of establishments and temporary detentions isolators located in Western Georgia was implemented with the financial support of the European Union. The monitoring of the penitentiary establishments also involved experts from organizations Empathy - the Psycho – Rehabilitation Centre for Victims of Torture, Violence and Pronounced Stress Impact. During the reporting period the Prevention and Monitoring Department of the Office of Public Defender of Georgia undertook 587 ad hoc (3852 inmates interviewed) and 68 planned visits to penitentiary establishments of Georgia and 84 planned (227 inmates interviewed) and 31 ad hoc (101 inmates interviewed) visits to isolators of temporary detention under the MIA of Georgia. During the monitoring process, Special Preventive Group of the Prevention and Monitoring Department of the Office of Public Defender of Georgia were allowed to and moved without any impediments within the penitentiary 2012 establishments as well as within the temporary detention isolators.

But there are urgent and compelling stories that must be told — stories of people in desperate need and stories of everyday health care heroes on the front lines. Our goal with this publication is to help policymakers and the public better understand that the numbers we see cited in media and legislation reflect real lives: those of children and parents, brothers and sisters, teens and the elderly, black, white, and Latino, people we’ve met and people we’ll never know. By sharing the 12 stories in this book, we hope to provide a glimpse of who needs health care, who needs public health programs, who are the unsung heroes providing health services to low income Georgians, and what the people are like who benefit from all of the good work that health organizations are doing in Georgia. Throughout 2005, photographer Billy Howard and writer Betsey Russell crisscrossed the state to document these stories. Through film and words, they asked the questions: What are the health problems in Georgia? Who struggles with them? Who’s doing something to address the issues? Who benefits from the work being done? Whose needs are still unmet? The stories and pictures on the following pages tell tales of despair and hope, isolation and connectedness, daunting challenges and heartfelt victories that are happening throughout Georgia.
