Essa costituisce un'area di rilevante valore paesaggistico e naturalistico nonchè di grande interesse dal punto di vista speleologico in quanto caratterizzata dalla presenza di numerose e importanti grotte terrestri e marine sommerse e semisommerse e di emergenze geologiche.     COMUNE DI POLIGNANO A MARE Citta Metropolitana Area III – Beni e attività Culturali- Pubblica Istruzione- Turismo Servizi Sociali- Sport- Spettacolo- Biblioteca Dall’11 al 16 marzo torna il festival “Bimbinfesta” patrocinato da Rai Ragazzi POLIGNANO A MARE, UNA CAPITALE PER L’INFANZIA Si può costruire la pace a partire dall’infanzia. E’ la mission della seconda edizione del Festival dell’infanzia “Bimbinfesta” in corso fino al 16 marzo nel sud-est barese. L’iniziativa è organizzata dall’Amministrazione comunale di Polignano a Mare, con la media partner di Rai Ragazzi e la collaborazione di una sessantina di soggetti pubblici e privati. Per una settimana il festival animerà il territorio dei quattro comuni del Sac “Mari tra le Mura” (Conversano, Mola di Bari, Polignano a Mare e Rutigliano) e la città di Monopoli, con una formula che prevede in mattinata spettacoli teatrali e laboratori promossi nelle scuole e sul territorio, nel pomeriggio attività libere ed esperienze per bambini e le famiglie, occasioni di formazione per docenti, studenti, operatori della scuola e dell’informazione. Ideatore e direttore artistico dell’evento il bergamasco Oreste Castagna che arriva da Rai Yoyo, volto noto a generazioni di bambini: “Sin dallo scorso anno con Domenico Matarrese, funzionario del Comune di Polignano a Mare - spiega Oreste - abbiamo pensato di mettere su questo festival partendo dalla consapevolezza che vi siano poche iniziative che tendano a riflettere sul ruolo fondamentale dell’infanzia e sulla famiglia, che costituiscono le basi per progettare il futuro della società”. “La scelta di questa seconda edizione – aggiunge Castagna - che dalla Puglia guarda all’intera penisola, è quella di soffermarsi sulla costruzione della pace attraverso percorsi di condivisione”.

    Puglia Biking Adventure :: May 24 - 29, 2016 Meeting & Finishing Times & Places We meet on the first day of the trip at 1:00 PM in the lobby of the Hotel Corte Altavilla in the town of Conversano, about an hour from Bari. You should plan to eat lunch before our meeting. After brief introductions, we will begin our biking right from the hotel. Unless you arrived the night before, your room might not be ready, and you should have your helmet available and be dressed in your biking clothes. The tour will end in the morning on the last day of the tour with a final ride, showers, and then a shuttle to the Polignano a Mare train station, which is only 30 minutes and a few Euros from central Bari. When and Where to Arrive & Depart All flights to Italy from North America are overnight “red eye” flights. If you are not spending much time in Italy prior to the tour, we suggest you book a flight directly to Bari, which will require a connection (most likely but not always in Rome). Because you need to go through immigration, pick up your luggage, and make your way to Conversano from the airport, it will be difficult for you to fly from the United States on May 23 and meet the group on time on May 24. Instead, you might plan to arrive in Italy at least the day prior to the tour start. This extra day, in addition to giving you time to reach Conversano, should also allow you to recover from the international flight.

    THE PRIORY OF BARLETTA The prioral domus of Barletta, situated on a flat area just outside the city walls, was founded shortly after the middle of the 12th century as replacement for that in Bari, which had been demolished following the rebellion of 1156. Though already in ruins by 1399, it remained active until 1528, the year in which it was destroyed by French troops led by Renzo de Ceri. Having been moved inside the city walls, it remained there until the mid-16th century, when it was transported to its present location in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The priors, Fra’ Don Tommaso Castromediano, De Giovanni, and Piccolomini, later embellished it with a bell tower, which they adorned with the coat of arms of the Order. Meetings of the Prioral Assembly were held in the Sacristy. Among the relics conserved was a fragment of the Cross of Jesus. Attached to the church was the Pilgrims' Hospital, owned by the Order and was served by the Knights. The Priory’s assets included several landholdings which supplied it with a very substantial income: the two Bailiwicks of SANTO STEFANO and SS. Contact person: Luigi Balacco, project coordinator ([email protected]) Hosting organisation: CLAD Some words about Terlizzi The cooperative CLAD is located in the municipality of Terlizzi, a medium size town in the centre of Apulia Region. Terlizzi has around 28.000 inhabitants and its economy is historically linked to agriculture, in fact it is known as the "city of flowers" because of its important crops of flowers and greenhouses. Founded around the sixth century AD, the town derives its name from Terlicium, "place placed among the oaks", which are developed very much in the area. In addition to flowers, Terlizzi's economy is particularly related to textile companies, companies processing agricultural products and crafts, and in particular the production of ceramics and pottery. The climate is generally quite and poor of rain, although the temperature changes are fast and short, due to the wind from the Balkan area. In spite of the fact that our area has good road, railways, air and maritime facilities, and that it has strategic links with the East-Mediterranean and Balkan countries, it is quite distant from the so-called heart of Europe. Apart for the headquarters of Terlizzi the CLAD generally takes part to many other projects and social activities with organizations in other towns around the Province of Bari, for example in Ruvo and Molfetta (7 km far away).
