Local Playing Conditions and Bylaws for 2013-14 Season General 0. Use common sense. 1. These conditions and bylaws shall be a supplement to the Laws of Cricket. 2. The gentlemanly spirit of cricket should always prevail. 3. All matches shall be played on Saturday or on such days as the Association may determine, and on such grounds as shall be arranged by the Association. 4. Four-piece balls will be used in all A-grade matches, and in all B and C-grade matches which are played on turf. Two-piece balls may be used in B-grade and C-grade matches played on synthetic . Kookaburra balls only may be used. The Start 5. Play in all A-Grade matches, except finals, will start at 12.30pm. Play in B and C-Grade matches will normally start at 1pm unless otherwise agreed. Play on a Sunday will normally start at 12 noon (A-grade) and 12.30pm (B and C-Grade). 6. In all finals, play will start at 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday, unless otherwise agreed. 7. A game may only start if each team has at least seven players present. 8. If one team does not have seven players present within five minutes of the scheduled starting time, it shall automatically lose the toss. Umpires should attempt to have the toss conducted 15 minutes before the start. 9. If either team is unable to start play five minutes after the scheduled starting time has elapsed, the team which is ready and able to play will assume the right to decide who bats and bowls, irrespective of the outcome of any prior toss. 10. The start of play must not be delayed more than 20 minutes or the side unable to field a team shall forfeit the match. 11. Players for both sides must be named on the team sheet before the start of the game. There are no restrictions on which players can bat or bowl during a game, as long as their name is on the team sheet. Teams may name 12 players to participate, but only 11 can bat and only 11 can field at any one time. 12 players may bowl. 12. If any side does not have 11 players, it will be permitted to use any volunteers to make up the numbers as substitute fielders, provided they are properly attired. Overs to be Bowled - A-Grade 13. All matches will be 50 overs maximum in the first innings, and a total allotment off 100 overs in the match. 14. Should the team batting first close its innings or be dismissed before the required number of overs have been bowled, the team batting second shall be entitled to receive the maximum number of legitimate overs (50) before the completion of its first innings. 15. Either or both teams may claim the balance of the number of overs scheduled for the match (100) in their second innings. 16. For the purpose of calculating overs remaining on the day, part-overs bowled will be rounded up (ie if Team A faces 40.3 overs and Team B faces 40.3 overs, there are 18 overs remaining to be bowled). 17. At the completion of both teams’ first innings, a second innings may be commenced if a minimum of 15 overs remain in the total allotment for the match, unless both captains agree to end the game. 18. In all finals the game shall be decided on the first innings. There will be no second innings. Playing Conditions (cont.) 19. At any time during the match either side may declare its innings closed. The declaration provides an option to the captain of the batting side only, and it is not the intention that any declaration should become the subject of an agreement between captains. If any person has grounds for thinking that such an agreement has taken place they should report it in writing to the BMRCA. 20. If the team batting second has scored 75 or more runs less than the opposing side the follow-on may be enforced. Overs to be Bowled - B-Grade and C-Grade 21. In B-Grade, all matches will be a maximum of 45 overs per side. In C-Grade, all matches will be a maxi- mum of 40 overs per side. Time Limits and Restrictions on Bowlers 22. In A-Grade, each fielding team is allotted 3 hours to complete the first innings. In B-Grade, each fielding team is allotted 2 hours 45 minutes to complete the innings. In C-Grade, each fielding team is allotted 2 hours 30 minutes to complete the innings. 23. If any time is lost due to injury, searching for lost balls, or other stoppages such as the slow arrival of a new batsman at the crease, it should be noted and taken into consideration when determining penalties. 24. In A-Grade (46 overs and more per side), a maximum of 10 overs per bowler applies in the first innings, but there are no limitations on bowlers in the second innings (except Rule 31, below). 25. In B-Grade (45 overs and less), no bowler will be allowed to bowl more than nine overs. In C-Grade (40 overs and less), no bowler will be allowed to bowl more than eight overs. 26. If the team arriving late bowls first, they must still complete the required number of overs by the cut-off time. If the team arriving late bats first, then the team need only bowl the required number of overs, less one per every three full minutes of lost time by the cut-off time. 27. The team bowling first must bowl its full allotment of overs, unless the team which bats first is dismissed or declares its innings. 28. If the team bowling first has not started its final over by the allotted time, the number of overs completed to that point shall be noted on both scorebooks and when the second team bats, it will receive only the same number of overs that it had started when its allotted time expired. If the team bowling second has failed to start its final over by its allotted time, it will be penalised 5 runs per over (in the form of penalty runs being granted to the opposition as sundries) for each full over until the allotted time is reached. 29. If any bowler is allowed to start an illegal 10th or 11th over, any balls bowled and wickets taken shall be credited to the bowler who shall be permitted to finish the over. 30. The BMRCA follows Cricket Australia’s “Junior Cricket Policy” for fast and medium-paced bowlers. Re- strictions on all medium and fast bowlers due to age: 4 overs per spell (under-13), 5 overs per spell (under-15), 6 overs per spell (under-17) and 8 overs per spell (under-19). The rest period between spells for bowlers under the age of 19 is at least 30 minutes. 31. No bowler under 19 years of age is to exceed 15 overs per day. 32. Captains must notify umpires of players who fit into each age group listed in and are responsible, with the support of the umpires, to ensure that these restrictions are adhered to. Fielding Circle 33. In A-Grade, a circle 30 metres from the stumps shall be drawn on the field. Only 2 fielders are permitted outside the circle for the first 15 overs in the first innings, and only 5 fielders are permitted outside the circle after that. There are no restrictions in the second innings. Playing Conditions (cont.) No-Balls and Wides 34. All no-balls shall be penalised 1 run each, in addition to runs scored off the bat. 35. A ball that pitches on the edge of a synthetic and bounces back on to the pitch area, so that it is within reach of the batsman on strike, shall be called “no-ball”. Any full-toss which reaches the batsman above waist-height in his normal batting stance shall also be called no-ball, unless the batsman has advanced out of his crease. 36. A bowler shall be limited to two fast short-pitched balls per over. A fast short-pitched ball shall be defined as a ball which passes, or would have passed, above the shoulder of the batsman standing upright at the crease. Should the limit be exceeded then “no-ball” shall be called and Law 42.8 shall apply. 37. A wide ball is a ball which is so high or so wide that it passes out of reach of the striker standing in his nor- mal guard position. As a guide, marks 3ft outside off stump and 1ft outside leg stump on each side of the wicket shall be marked to assist umpires. Should a batsman move from his guard position, causing the ball to pass out of his reach, then this is not a wide ball. Also, should the batsman move towards a ball bringing it into his reach, then again this is not a wide ball. In A-Grade, all deliveries passing outside leg stump are wides, unless the ball has passed over the body of a batsman who has had to duck to avoid being hit. Intervals 38. Innings breaks should be no more than 15 minutes. Drinks breaks should be no more than five minutes for fielding teams. Two drinks breaks may be permitted during an innings in hot weather. Batsmen or fielders seek- ing further breaks should seek the permission of the fielding captain (batsmen) or the not-out batsmen (fielders) before drinks are allowed. These drinks must be brought on to the field. Fitness of the Ground and Rain Interruptions 39. The captains will decide the fitness of the ground, weather and light for play. If the captains disagree, the decision shall be left to the official umpires. 40. If a turf wicket is washed out or not fit for play, the options are: to play on synthetic, to reschedule for Sunday or a date later in the season, or share the points. A club not able to play on a rescheduled date, once the date is agreed, will lose on forfeit. If a game is moved to another round it ceases to be part of the original round, and the MyCricket coordinator needs to be immediately advised of the new date for the game. Should any pitch or outfield be considered unfit for play after the match has started, the game may continue on another pitch or ground if both captains agree. However, if a game starts (ie a ball has been bowled) and is not completed on that day (apart from the grand final), it cannot be replayed. 41. Rain-affected games may be reduced by one over for every six minutes lost if the team batting first has not finished its innings. If the team batting second has started its innings, its overs to be faced may be reduced by one for every four minutes lost through rain (if there is insufficient time or light to complete a full-length game). The target runs will be reduced by calculating the average run rate for the team batting first over its innings and subtracting this amount, multiplied by the overs lost, from the initial target. (ie average run rate). 42. A minimum scheduled amount of 30 overs per side must be faced to constitute a result. Scoring 43. If there is a discrepancy in the scorebooks, the batting total shall be taken as the correct figure. 44. The total of the team which has batted first must be finally determined, and known to both captains, by the time the team batting second has commenced its innings. Points System 45. In A-Grade the points system for qualifying matches is: Outright victory (12 pts), Outright victory if behind on 1st innings (10 pts), 1st innings victory (6 pts), outright tie (3 pts each extra), tie on 1st innings (3 pts each), 1st innings lead if beaten outright (6 pts), draw (3 pts each), forfeit (points to be the maximum points achieved by any team in that division in that round). Incentive points awarded to each team: 0.30 pts each wicket taken (in all innings), 0.01 pts for each run scored (in all innings). Playing Conditions (cont.) 46. In B and C-grade, the points system for determining the final four teams and their placings will be based on 10 points for a win; 12 points for a win achieved in 80% or less of the scheduled overs or for restricting the opposition to 80% or less of their total; 5 points each for a tie; 5 points each for a match abandoned due to the unfitness of the pitch for play, or for a match uncompleted due to adverse weather conditions; 12 points to the team winning on a forfeit; 5 points penalty to the team which forfeits. 47. Points for the Cricketer of the Year will be awarded in qualifying matches (not finals) as follows: 1 point per run; 15 points per wicket; 10 points per catch or stumping; 10 points per run-out to the player who finally threw the ball to effect the run out. 48. For a player to qualify for the Batting Average trophy, he must have compiled at least 150 runs in not less than seven innings. For qualification for the trophy, a player must take at least 10 wickets and bowl in not less than seven innings. 49. Runs scored and wickets and dismissals taken in matches abandoned because of the weather will count for the Cricketer of the Year award. Any player representing two teams in the same grade in one season shall have their points combined for the Cricketer of the Year award. 50. The fielding award will be determined by votes cast on a 3-2-1 basis by opposing captains at the end of each match, with 3 points to the best fielder. New Ball 51. In all games a new ball shall be used in the first innings of both sides. In the second innings a new ball may be taken at any time. A-Grade Players in B-Grade Matches 52. If the A-grade side has a bye, it may only be permitted to use 2 players from its A-grade side the previous weekend to play in B-grade, those two players having played both of the previous two Saturday games. Sunday B-grade games are exempt from this rule. Any club wishing to include more than 2 A-grade players in its B-grade side should put their case to the association president. The Finals 53. The eligibility of players for finals shall be as follows: (i) A player must have played a minimum of three matches in the qualifying rounds with his club in the current season to be eligible for the finals. (ii) Any player so qualified is eligible to play A-Grade finals. (iii) If a player has played more than 3 A-Grade qualifying matches in the current season, he must have played 4 B-grade matches, or the last 3 B-Grade matches before the finals, to be eligible for the B-Grade finals. (iv) If a player has played more than 3 B-Grade qualifying matches in the current season, he must have played 4 C- grade matches, or the last 3 C-Grade matches before the finals, to be eligible for the C-Grade finals. (v) If a club has A, B and C-Grade teams in the finals, selection will not be restricted by condition (iii) above, unless the A-Grade team has a bye for the corresponding round of finals. (vi) Players affiliated with another Association must play at least six qualifying games with the club to be eligible for finals. (vii) The 12th man selected for any finals matches must have played at least three qualifying matches in the current season, and if selected as 12th man for a B-Grade or C-Grade final, must have played at least one B or C-Grade match in the current season, unless condition (iv) above applies. If the nominated 12th man is absent in any final, an emergency substitute may be used at the discretion of the umpire. (viii) Players in A-Grade finals are not permitted to play in corresponding matches in B or C-Grade finals. (ix) Any player named as 12th man during the qualifying rounds must have been in attendance at that match in order to have it count towards his qualifying to play in the finals. (x) Juniors participating in finals are not required to qualify, unless they are qualified by playing in higher grades. (xi) Juniors must nominate, at the start of the finals, which particular club they will represent in the finals. Playing Conditions (cont.) 54. The format for A, B and C-Grade finals will result in first playing second in the major semi-final, the winner going through to the grand final, and third playing fourth in the minor semi-final, with the winner to play the loser of the major semi-final in the preliminary final, the winner of which progresses to the grand final. The first team to qualify for the A-Grade grand final shall have the choice of Bovell Park, Churchill Park, Dunsborough, Cowaramup or Margaret River for the grand final, with the B-Grade grand final to be played automatically on the adjacent ground. The C-Grade grand final should be played nearby if a suitable ground can be found. 55. One weekend shall be set aside for the grand finals. The A-Grade, B-Grade and C-Grade matches should all start at 12 noon on Saturday and unless weather interrupts should be finished on that day. Sunday shall be set aside as the reserve day. Should play start on Saturday but not be finished due to weather, it will be continued on Sunday (ie a new match will not be started if play has already begun). 56. If no play is possible on turf on the Saturday of the grand final, the captains will decide whether to transfer the match to synthetic pitches or postpone the start of play until Sunday. If the turf is still unfit on Sunday the match shall be played on synthetic. 57. If any semi-finals or preliminary final matches are not finished or end in a tied result, the winner shall be the higher-placed team at the end of the qualifying rounds. 58. If the grand final is not won outright by Sunday evening, the premiership team shall be the team which progressed first into the grand final. 59. If two teams are equal on points, wins and losses at the end of the qualifying rounds, their relative positions shall be determined on average run rate as follows: The batting average of a team shall be determined by divid- ing the total number of runs scored over the season by the total number of wickets lost. Dress Standards 60. All players should be clothed in regulation cricket dress. White or cream shorts are permitted but not encour- aged. Coloured shirts or white T-shirts with coloured motifs (unless sponsorship logos) are forbidden. Every effort should be made to enforce this rule and the opposing captain shall have the right to object to any player taking the field incorrectly attired. Teams are encouraged to carry spare whites for emergencies. 61. When playing on turf, bowlers in A-grade matches must wear spikes. In all games on turf, players are strongly discouraged from using rubber-soled boots and sandshoes. 62. Alcohol, smoking and mobile phones are not permitted on the field of play by players or umpires. 63. Paid umpires are required to wear standard uniform of black trousers, white shirt, shoes and hat. 64. Umpires are entitled to their full payment from each team once a ball has been bowled in the match. Team Responsibilities 65. The home team is responsible for supplying stumps, boundary markers, the official scoresheet and an ad- equate supply of beer for each game. 66. The official scoresheet for each match must be completed, checked and signed by both captains on the day of the match, and submitted, faxed or emailed to the MyCricket coordinator by the Monday following the match. Teams must input complete scorecards from their game on the MyCricket website immediately that weekend, or as soon as possible afterwards. This includes finals. 67. Once the scorecard is completed, checked and signed, the result is final and cannot be overturned. 68. Teams are required to pay half their affiliation fees to the Association Treasurer by the end of the first round, with the rest by Country Week. If agreed at a meeting of delegates, points may be withheld from teams who fail to pay their fees. 69. Non-attendance at a delegates meeting by any club will result in a $100 fine, and in addition each of the club’s teams will be penalised 5 points. PRESIDENT’S REPORT

elcome everyone to our end-of-season presentations and wind-up. Another huge season for BMRCA with some mixed results at representation level, three great grand-finals and a fantastic finals series. W First off, a very big thank you to our management committee of Al Miller, Stu Watson, Pete Bresser, Ray Pes, Neil Langenhoven, Michael Earl and Anthony Balkin. A few new faces and a couple of old heads got us through again. We still have a bit of work to be done, but all-in-all a successful season.

Thank you to our umpires and curators. Two very important jobs that without them all we would really struggle to have the games that we do. Great to see a couple of new umpires around in Jarrad and John, and with a bit of luck we may have a few more next year.

Our fixtures this year were compiled by Stu Watson and Shamus Henry. This is without doubt the hardest job in the association and this season was one of the worst with ground availability, Christmas break, Southbound, Ironman etc all putting a massive strain on our grounds. What the boys came up with may not have been suitable to everyone but in the circumstances a sensational effort, so well done Stu and Shamus.

Congratulations to our grand final winners in Dunsborough, Hawks and Nannup.A great day was had by all and as I mentioned on the day I was very proud that we had five of our clubs represented in grand finals. Congratulations to our players of the match in Aaron Mott, Peter De Gennaro and Garry Marle. To stand up on the day is not easy and you all did well. Thank you to everyone who helped out to make sure that we had a successful day.

Country Cup and Country Week were once again highlights for our season. To host a Country Cup qualifying weekend, get through to the final, and then be struck down by injuries and player availability resulted in very mixed emotions. To the players well done on getting to the finals and I’m sure that we’ll be back for another tilt next season. Country Week again was a mixture of emotion. To play so well all week and then fall at the last hurdle was difficult to take for our No. 1 side but that’s the game. Disrespect it and it will chew you up and spit you out. Our No. 2 team also had a great week but once again one small hiccup will hurt you. Our No. 3 team however was the highlight of the week. Slow starting but once into it a very steady week capped off by a brilliant team effort in the final.

A very big thank you and congratulations to our Country Week selectors in Martin Head, Ben Lloyd, Ray Pes and Neil Langenhoven, our managers in Pete Bresser, Neil McCormack and Graeme Sly, and our captains in Martin, Glen Ahola and Shamus Henry. Well done to you all.

The Barnard Park redevelopment is coming along nicely and with all going to plan we will be back playing there at least on a hard wicket next season, with hopefully turf the season after. Keep an eye on it and if you happen to come across any of our City councillors make sure you tell them what a great job they are doing.

In closing thank you everyone for another great season. I love what I do and will be back next season. Will you? Wayne Thackrah. FINALS RESULTS A-Grade: 1st Semi-Final: Duns 9-185 (R. Pes 76, N. The House Medal This was the 11th year that the official umpires used their own personal judgement to cast votes on a 3-2-1 basis in each of the 16 qualifying rounds to determine a “fairest and best” winner in the A-Grade competition. The winner receives a $200 gold-plated sterling silver medal courtesy of the House family — the central family in the history of local cricket. The leading votegetters in 2013-14 were: Ben Lloyd 19 votes, Ryan Stevenson 17, Ray Pes 13, Marc Ford 12, Zac Davies 10, Martin Head 10. ASSOCIATION TROPHY WINNERS 2013-14

CARRIED BAT C-GRADE HAT-TRICK (when team is all out) Ben Crain St Marys v Duns Nil. 2014 COUNTRY WEEK

his year we tried to do thing a little differently, with a Country Week committee set up to find ways to combat the cost of Country Week. The committee has started some good work with some ideas set up for next season. A big thanks to Ben TLloyd, Neil Langenhoven, Mike Earl, Shamus Henry, Stuart Watson and Pieter Bresser. Once again we worked on three sides to take away with supreme confidence in the players that had made themselves available. This season we had record numbers of players with 52 players competing for 38 spaces, and for the first time at least one player from every club took part, with Ben Kennedy from Augusta a late withdrawal. This made selection and the selectors’ job extremely tough. All the selectors had to make some hard decisions and to Ben Lloyd, Ray Pes, Neil Langenhoven, Glen Ahola and captains Martin Head (A Section), Glen Ahola (C) and Shamus Henry (D) a hard job done well in trying circumstances. Thanks to all who put themselves into the fold.

A-SECTION The top team went to Perth with a good line up of players and back up players in the two other sides competing in C and D sections. We started brilliantly by winning our first four matches. But Country Week is hard to win, and it takes just one bad day to move from the top of your pool to out of the running. We crashed against Eastern Goldfields and all the hard work of the week was lost - such was the fate of A section this year. Congratulations to Ryan Stevenson for his selection in the Country Week All Stars. Thanks Marty Head for your leadership and to all the players for the way they conducted themselves. C-SECTION With one of the best sides Busselton-Margaret River could muster, the C Section team was ready to get the job done. But as with the A Section, one bad day would come back to haunt them. Glen Ahola was a fine captain for the week. As all players are aware it is hard cricket to get to the finals and then win the day. The team should be proud of themselves. D-SECTION Well we save the best result for a big finish, the D Section team under skipper Shamus Henry went all the way and won the pennant with victory in the grand final against Lake Grace Kukerin. To win any section of Country Week is an outstanding achievement and to Shamus and his merry band of brothers it was like going to war and coming home with all the prizes. From all your fellow Country Week players and all the committee of the BMRCA congratulations and well done. Enjoy your win. In summing up this year’s Country Week, thanks to all who took part and all the players that had a try out for the teams. Thanks to Neil McCormack and Graeme Sly for your fantastic support as managers. Without your help the results would not have been so good. Thanks to Emma Bresser the A Section scorer who did a wonderful job all week. Big thanks must go to Spade and the BMRCA committee for the support shown through out the season. Well done to the D Section for their win. Cheers boys, well done.

2013-14 COUNTRY CUP This season BMRCA played host to the Country Cup in the qualifying rounds at Dunsborough in November. We were successful in winning the section and went on to represent the South West in the Country Cup finals in Perth on the March long weekend.

In the round robin finals we won two and lost three games, finishing fourth overall in the six team competition. North West Pilbara were the overall winners. A big thanks to all who took part and particularly to Martin Head as captain and Emma Bresser as scorer. Thanks to all of the BMRCA committee for their support.

Augusta Cricket Club President:...... Jim Warnke Vice-President:...... Ben Kennedy Secretary/Treasurer:...... Brian Peters B-Grade Captain:...... Dave Beilken MyCricket Website:...... Ben Kennedy

Firstly I would like to thank all the committee members, players and supporters of the Augusta Cricket Club in a year where we put the spark back into the club from down south.

To the BMRCA committee we cannot thank you enough for your dedication and time. We know you blokes work non-stop and it is well appreciated by all the clubs in our association.

To our captain David Beilken, from all our players we thank you for taking on the reins as skipper this year and for providing us with your expertise and patience as we rebuild our club back into a top-four contender. The work you have done with our juniors is simply remarkable. You lead from the front and it inspires all players to improve their games to the next level. We look forward to you leading us for many years into the future.

To all the grand final winners of the association well done on a fine year, enjoy your spoils as it is becoming evident that in all grades it is much harder to win these days.

Congratulations to the players involved in the outstanding performances this year by the Augusta Cricket Club. To our captain David Beilken for scoring over 1000 runs for the season, a remarkable effort and a complete joy to watch him go about his business, well done! To Tyson Warnke, who in only his second season of cricket was given the opportunity to open the batting for Augusta and batted through the innings twice to remain not out after 45 overs. A remarkable effort from a young cricketer who only started playing the game last season. Well done to Tyson, keep up the hard work! And finally congratulations to Ben Kennedy and David Beilken for their 205-run stand against Vasse in round 18, a standout partnership for the Augusta Cricket Club this season.

Finally to our sponsors, Augusta Hotel, Gozzi’s Gas and Plumbing, Painting Augustaa, Leeuwin Lighthouse Cafe, Nillup Store, Nillup Rural Traders and the Augusta Bakery. We thank you all for your ongoing support for our club and look forward to your support well into the future.

Many thanks.

How do you measure progress - entirely by on-field results? I don’t believe so. On field achievements are the end result of a huge amount of work and dedication from all facets of your club. The performances in these other areas are just as, if not more important. In my first year as president, I was handed a club with a good structure and a good balance sheet. Our previous committee led by Mugga had taken some tough decisions and changed the direction and fabric of our club. Even though not measurable like ladder positions, it was crucial that the new club committee continued to build on these directives. At Cowie, we are lucky that our ground can provide more than just cricketing entertainment for budding young Bulls. We continued to provide a family friendly facility, which was enjoyed by wives, girlfriends and mums all season. It was great to see so many kids around the club. Fostering, mentoring and promoting our young players is a week-in, week-out commitment. We have some great young players at the club. Just turning 18, our A-Grade new-ball attack of Sammy Berridge and Adrian Woodward is an exciting prospect and we had a breakthrough year from Tom Menzies, Shane Herbst and Hannah Biddulph. Well done, the club is proud of your achievements. We had a year off from any substantial fundraising. We were able to do this by being beneficiaries of hard work from previous years. We believe in investing in our facility and have some exciting medium to long-term plans for our ground. This autumn will see us undertake an outfield restoration project to maximise space on the Waverly Road boundary for the hard-deck oval, making it safer for fieldsmen and also adding valuable metres to the playing area. I would like to thank the Cowaramup Hall and Reserves Committee for their support towards this and all other projects. I’d like to congratulate both Tebsy King and Shane Williams our B & C Grade captains. Tebsy had a fantastic year with the bat, increasing his club 100’s tally by 2. Tebsy now has 7 hundreds for the Bulls and is a living example of what hard work and dedication can achieve. Both skippers juggled selection issues, with a lack of numbers straining our resources. How to accommodate FIFO members within the selection process is an area that we need to address before next season. Shane’s determination to find XI every week took great persistence and I’d like to thank him for doing a great job in often frustrating circumstances. Congratulations to both Tebsy and Greg Messer for passing 150 games each for the club. The club will be honouring their efforts. Thanks to Ben Shepherd for his huge effort this year. Ben’s first year as A Grade captain was not easy but I think a lot was learnt and he handled himself and the team well. The old adage ‘winners are grinners’ is true, but even in defeat the A Grade side had a smile on their faces as they could sense that they really did challenge the associations best. Ben, well done on your individual performances through out the year, you certainly led from the front. Beno also put in a massive amount of work as our chief groundsman, another big learning curve (none bigger than spilling the white paint on ‘a length’) but one successfully achieved. (Cont.) Cowaramup Cricket Club (cont.)

Clubs are complex and need all types of personalities to help them function. The key is putting the right people in the right positions to let those personalities flourish. I have a great team of dedicated, hard working people busily doing their bit for this club. I would like to thank each and everyone of my committee for a successful off field year. Thanks to Bob, Stu, Holby, Mick and Rob, all of whom I have called upon at certain times of the year. Its great to have your continuing support. Also, a special mention must go to Tina Berridge, who took complete control of the club kitchen and did an excellent job providing refreshments to our players and guests. The club thoroughly enjoyed hosting Fijian import Sekove Ravoka. We have a great relationship with Cricket Fiji and hope to host more players in the future. Scooby’s batting and fielding have been an asset to our club and all that witnessed his stunning catch at point will appreciate how good he is in the field. I’d also like to thank the boys at country week for making him feel welcome. The Bulls have some loyal sponsors, who continually give year in year out. They are local families and businesses giving back to the community and for that, the Bulls are very grateful. Our major sponsors Cowaramup Brewery, Knotting Hill, Woodlands, SWAT and Holbens, have stuck by us and we look forward to continuing our relationship with you all. Congratulations to this year’s BMRCA winners and many thanks to the association committee and sponsors. Well done to the Country Week squad, and congratulations to the D- section winners. A big thank you to the other grounds-men in the association. We at Cowie know how much unseen time goes into the preparation of a turf wicket. It’s an amazing effort by all volunteers. Having participated in the A Grade country week team, I can say from first hand experience that our facilities down here more than compete with the larger city clubs. Thanks to all the Umpires this year. The players appreciate your efforts and we are very lucky to have your commitment. One final yet slightly self-indulgent note…I continue to be frustrated with the playing conditions adopted by the association. I understand that the ‘play on’ or ‘playing time’ rule is in place to ‘provide more cricket’ for players in an already short and interrupted season. However, my interpretation of the best use of this rule would be, once a target has been successfully chased (essentially game over) then it would be a good opportunity to change the personnel at the crease, blood the youngsters if you like. Unfortunately, teams seem to enjoy feeding twilight players big scores in an environment lacking the competitive influence - all for honour board lettering. I appreciate that points are still available, but human nature is hard to overcome, when the loss is incurred, the fighting spirit is no longer the same. This is why I feel the competitive edge no longer exists. I note that runs in this year’s finals were hard to come by. I can’t help but wonder if the teams that had the opportunity to bat on, may have benefitted by offering their lower order some batting time. Perhaps the solution is to remove this rule and adjust the points weighting to allow straight win/lose cricket at A grade level. Walking off the field to enjoy the moment after a hard fought win is far more satisfying than dragging out an innings for the sake of compliance. I leave the possibility of implementing the play on rule in other grades open to debate, but it appears to me that the format could be better utilised in the B’s and C’s who already self regulate opportunity for all. Winter well and I look forward to seeing you all next year.

Congratulations to BMRCA on another successful year of cricket. Well done to our A grade side for claiming the Barnard Cup for successive years and congratulations to Margaret River Hawks and Nannup Tigers for their B and C grade premierships. Well done to the D section Country Week side who took the title this year and the Country Cup T20 side who made the finals. Congratulations to tonight’s BMRCA Life Member inductees, a fantastic acknowledgement of achievement for the association both on and off the field of play.

To the BMRCA committee and umpires, thanks again for your hard work in running and officiating the competition, much appreciated. To all our club sponsors especially major sponsors Carbunup General Store, Outdoor Sportz and Professsionals Dunsborough, thank you again for your support of our club. Welcome to Bank of Queensland who sponsored our social T20 competition and The Pour House who sponsored our players of the match award.

A very big thank you to A grade captain Chris Dudley who led his side to another Barnard Cup. Never an easy task, Chris led this side well and the victory was very well deserved. Many thanks to Kent Perkins and Al Cooper who led our reborn C grade side in to the finals, this was a very big achievement for our club this year. Congratulations to Ross Dalimore and his Yr 9/10/11 side who took the BMRJCA title in the oldest age group.

Thanks to the DCC committee especially incoming treasurer Matt Lepidi, Al Cooper (Vice President) and his wife Lou who tirelessly ran our club rooms and canteen. Along with Richard Norrish(Secretary), Chris Dudley and the rest of the club committee ensuring the season was successful. This year also marked the return to our club of former club president and legend Kim Marsden who along with Andy Mahoney ran our social T20 competition, an effort very much appreciated. Congratulations to Boonies Bungholes who won the Bank of Queensland Cup.

Thanks to the crew who helped on the turf wicket throughout the year, especially Chris Dudley, Josh Reagan and Jessie Gautrey. The new wicket has settled nicely and has played well throughout the year.

As this will be my final President’s Report I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the members, former players and friends of DCC for making it an honour to serve for 5 years as President. I wish the incoming executive the very best for next season and the years beyond.

On behalf of the Hawks, thank you to everyone involved in the BMRCA this year, especially the partners and families of all players and committee members of the association and individual clubs. Without your support there is no way our association would be as good as it is.

Thank you to all on the committee of the association and Country Week committee members. It has been another great season, one that has been a lot closer across all grades than in previous years. You all do an amazing job, so thank you.

A massive thank you to the umpires throughout the year, and the ones that stepped up during finals. It makes the games much more enjoyable to have someone officiating properly and we really hope to see you all again next year!

I would like to say thank you to Todd and the AMRSC for their tireless work at Gloucester Park. We are very proud of the quality of our home ground and facilities. The association should be the envy of most other associations, as our venues across the region are a class above most of the grounds we play on in Perth at Country Week, and so it is a credit to all involved.

Congratulations to all awards winners tonight, and to Dunsborough and Nannup on their premiership glory.

A massive congratulations to Shamus Henry and his team for taking out Country Week D Section for the second year running for the association. Congratulations to Glenn Anderson, David Holmes and Milo Jennings on being Hawks players, along with myself, who were a part of this side. Also to Marty, Glenno, Alty, Azza, Ryan and Matty who took Hawks Country Week representatives to 10; and Neil McCormack for his great work as the seconds’ team manager.

From a club level we have had a great committee comprising of Ando, Sara, Glenno, Stewy, Stuie, Dave, Rhys, Mat, Col, Sam and James. Thank you to you all and your families. It is a big commitment but one that you all did a great job, and puts the Hawks in the position that we are in. The improvements around the club, the T20 competition, the facilities, our finances and our on field successes are all directly attributable to you all.

A couple of major individual thankyous. To Sara Anderson, Neil McCormack and Milo Jennings. Your enormous amount of work done around the club, I can assure you, has not gone unnoticed. (Cont). Margaret River Hawks Cricket Club (cont.)

Thank you to Brett Robins for your work with the juniors this year. We are on the right track to an Under 16’s side in the near future.

To Milo, we hope your experiences with the Hawks this year were as enjoyable as it has been for us to host you. I am sure you will get a few of the boys back to North London in the near future.

Now to the playing side of things. As a club, we value the Bovell Bowl very highly, and to win this for the 6th year in a row is a huge effort. Marty and Stewy, congratulations on another great season with your boys in getting into finals again.

On a personal note, congratulations Marty on becoming the highest games player in Hawks A grade history. It is a credit to you and your family on all your successes.

Ultimately it is premierships we play for, and congratulations Ando on steering the B grade lads to our first B Grade flag in 29 years! An awesome effort, well done. The bus trip home was very memorable, with the greatest rendition of “We are the Champions,” I have ever heard!

And finally to our sponsors. Thank-you for everything you have done for us:

The Nannup Cricket Club would like to congratulate all the trophy winners and all the premiers for all the grades. Well done to our boys for going all the way in the C-Grade under Shayne Brown’s captaincy and winning our second C-Grade premiership.

To have a successful club you need a good committee. The same goes for the association, so to Spade and his hard-working team thank you for the season.

Nannup has gone through some changes this season with new people in the club putting their hand up and taking some of the jobs around our club. A big thanks must also go to our committee, Adam Fabo (treasurer), Nolene Bresser (secretary) and Les Hopper (vice-president).

Thanks to all our sponsors, Nannup Hotel, Blackwood Signs, Nannup Hardware, Nannup Lucky 7 and Nannup Electrical.

We would also like to thank all of our opposition throughout the year for making this season such a success and a lot of fun.

As a club we would like to thank St Marys for making the Pink Stumps Day such a fun and eventful day with over $5000 raised for breast cancer. We hope to continue the good work for years to come.

Most of all, thanks to the boys from Nannup for the way you play the game. It has been a pleasure to play with you all this season.

Hope to see you all in the near future and wish you all the best on and off the field.

Season 2013/2014 was filled with mixed emotions for St Mary’s, with many exceptional personal and team achievements throughout the year but sadly no silverware making its way to our clubrooms. As a club, we were again honoured to have Ryan Stevenson join us as our overseas player and at both a club and association level, he excelled with the ball. Ben Lloyd, stepping down as President, took on the role of captaining our A Grade side and led the way with the bat, scoring over 700 runs. In what is surely a first for any club in the world, we saw both twins take a hat-trick in the same season. Dan Crain opened the season with his in Round 1 for A Grade and Ben Crain closed the season in Round 21, almost helping C Grade into finals. Round 9 saw another hat-trick for the club with David MacKay celebrating in A grade. Astounding.

Our B grade side had a tough journey of a season as we attempted to defend last year’s premiership. With many players being unavailable regularly, we struggled to regain the consistency of the previous year. The team was ably led by Dean Mistilis again who not only managed to take on the captaincy, but also ran our bar and kitchen for the season with the assistance of his wife and club treasurer, Deb. Great stuff, Mistilii – thank you.

C Grade was in and out of the top four all season and just couldn’t quite get enough wins on the board to make finals. Although we enjoyed much success on the field, a major highlight for the year was once again making the trip to Nannup for Pink Stumps Day. I would personally like to congratulate Nannup for the way they run this day and the fundraising they bring together for a very worthy cause. It’s an honour for our club to be involved and we look forward to contributing further in the coming years. Thanks again to Shane Lilley for captaining the C Grade side and ensuring, no matter how many players were unavailable each week, we put together a competitive side.

A grade had a cracking year but sadly couldn’t get over the line in the Grand Final. Finishing top and then qualifying for a Home Grand Final in itself was a huge achievement and one that our whole club is very proud of. There was a lot of work that went into setting up Churchill Park for the GF (and Semi Final the week before) and I’d like to put out a big thank you to all who assisted with the set-up and packing up on those 2 days. (Cont.) St Marys Cricket Club (cont.)

Our A grade side this year saw some new talent along with some very familiar faces and despite not running out Premiers, we had a great year that will both be celebrated and also leave players hungry for further success next year.

Also need to throw out a huge thank you to Mike Hibberd and the Cowaramup Cricket Club who hosted the 2nd year of the Crain-Penfold Cup. This is a wonderful day that is in honour of 2 families and in particular, 2 great late men of both Clubs that served both their respective Clubs and the BMRCA. It’s an emotional day for all involved and Cowaramup CC really did justice to the day by putting on a huge feed and a few ales as both Clubs sat around and swapped stories into the evening.

Cheers to the BMRCA Committee, this really is a fantastic association to be a part of. To our members, family and friends, thank you all for your efforts both on and off the field this year, it’s been a pleasure to be a part of. To our sponsors, Busselton Building Products, Albies Bistro, Leeuwin Civil, Echo Clothing SportsPower and of course Linda’s Place – Thank you for your financial support of our club. Without your generosity, we wouldn’t be in a position to grow our club the way we are. To the d***heads who yell “HOWAZAT” every time they drive past a game of cricket, great work. I remember my first beer too. Thanks to my committee who volunteer countless hours of their week to dedicate it to cricket and strengthening our great Club. Last of all, thanks to my wife Leia, who not only puts up with the numerous afternoons and evenings she loses me to cricket, but also provides the shoulder to cry on when I get smashed around the park and make no runs.

On behalf of the Vasse Cricket Club I would like to thank Spade, Allan and the rest of the management committee for their hard work this season which resulted in a successful season for our association.

Thankyou to the umpires this season for a job well done and making game day more enjoyable for us playing.

Congratulations to all associated with the Country Week squad and especially to Matt Kammann who was the first Vasse player to represent our club at Country Week and was involved in the premiership winning team in D Section under Shamus Henry.

Many thanks to our major sponsor Hillzeez for their continued support and our club hierarchy for their continued hard work throughout the season. Especially with the effort to get our $100 raffle up and running again this season as it proved to be the most successful one yet!

As a club it has been a difficult year to field two sides consistently week in week out. We have struggled with numbers and commitment. Hopefully this doesn’t continue into next season otherwise we are in trouble.

Well done to Alex Eades with his efforts with the junior teams again this season. Hopefully we get a few filtering into our B and c grade sides before too long.

All the best.

Yobs Cricket Club would like to thank all involved in the running of yet another successful BMRCA season. Well done to Allan and his team of umpires for their tireless efforts each week, it is greatly appreciated.

Well done to all the teams that were present on G/Final day especially the Yobs C Grade. Bad luck Noel and your team on the final result.

Congratulation to all the club captains, Grant Evans, Darren Golding and Noel Smith for a great season. Having all grades make the finals even though the results didn’t fall our way is always a huge achievement. It was great to see so many new players enter the club this year. We look forward to seeing you all again next year. To some outstanding efforts during the year, Grant Evans 101 his first A Grade century, Jake Wain 103 making his first B Grade century, Grant Spowart 101 and Trevor Golding 103 making C Grade centuries, Nayt Colombera 120 whilst captaining his first game, Ben Payne 5/30 and Zac Davies 5/31. Well done men on some great individual performances. Thanks also must go to all our junior team coaches, parents and helpers who helped make the year a success. Having 7 sides this year starting with the 20/20 big bash comp right through to the year 9/10/11 comp will help us as a club to be a formidable force going forward . Again the 9/10/11 side made the Grand Final but unfortunately were well outplayed by Dunsborough. The year 7/8 Grand final was fought out between the two Yobs sides and was a great contest with a lot of talent on show.

To all who were associated with Country Week this year congratulations on a great effort. To again send 3 teams and be successful as a region in all grades is something we all can be proud of. For those who have never made themselves available it is worth making the effort to enjoy a week of cricket and mateship with your opposing players.

To all our sponsors, Geographe Financial Group, Hanlon & Davies Chartered Accountants, Cape Cellars, Down South Motor Cycles, Geographe Petroleum, BG’s Fruit and Veg, SportFirst, Bay Woodworks and Bridgestone Tyres. Thanks heaps for your support allowing us to purchase a new playing uniform which is worn by the whole club.

To everyone associated with Yobs, thanks again for a great season and look forward to next year.

Since the formation of the Sussex District Cricket Association in Busselton in 1911 (later renamed the Vasse Cricket Association, then the Busselton Cricket Association, and now known as the Busselton-Margaret River Cricket Association), A-grade cricket in our region has been played for a variety of premiership trophies. It’s a bit complicated ...

THE BOVELL CUP When the Sussex District Cricket Association was first formed, there were four sides in the competition: Busselton, Yallingup, Capel and Railways. The Busselton newspaper reported in October 1911 that local shipping businessman A.R. Bovell “signalled his intention of presenting a cup to the premier team”. The inaugural winners of the Bovell Cup, Capel, therefore became our first premiers. But as a condition of his trophy, Mr Bovell said that any club which won the Bovell Cup twice could permanently keep it. Yallingup (1912-13) and Railways (1913-14) were the next two premiers. Then in 1914-15, in the fourth year of competition, Capel won for the second time - and became the permanent holders of the Bovell Cup. What became of the actual Bovell Cup after that is not known. Cricket stopped because of the war, the trophy was forgotten and became lost.

THE YATES SHIELD When the cricket competition resumed after the First World War, Press reports announced that Busselton were premiers in 1921-22 and Capel were premiers in 1922-23. But there was no trophy. Local doctor Percy Yates donated the Yates Shield in 1923-24 as a premiership trophy. The Yates Shield remained as the premiership trophy until shortly after the Second World War. Since 1946- 47 the Yates Shield has been awarded to the minor premiers and remains one of our most esteemed trophies.

THE BARNARD CUP First presented in 1914, the history of the Barnard Cup now dates back exactly 100 years. It has not always been our premiership cup, in fact it has had three separate meanings over the past century. It was originally presented in 1914 by George Barnard Senior to the winners of the Busselton Cricket Carnival, a three-day carnival held over Easter. The Barnard Cup was presented with similar conditions to the Bovell Cup: as soon as a club had won the trophy twice, it could keep the trophy permanently. Boyanup took permanent possession of the Barnard Cup in 1925 following their second win (despite the fact that Busselton Cricket Club had also won the trophy twice earlier). A new Barnard Cup was then presented in 1926 by George Barnard Junior as a permanent perpetual trophy. It was still played for as a trophy for the Easter Carnival, and it remained as such until 1933. The Easter Carnival then ceased, and there was no Barnard Cup in 1934 and 1935. From 1936 to 1948 the Barnard Cup was awarded to the winners of a knockout competition towards the end of the season, with the final being held as late as April 28. It was not until the 1948-49 season that the Barnard Cup was awarded to the premiers of the Busselton Cricket Association.

START OF FINALS Until 1946 there were no finals held in Busselton; the winners of theYates Shield for the home- and-away rounds were automatically named the premiers. Then in 1946-47 and 1947-48 a “final four competition” was held to decide the premiers (without a trophy to compete for). It was only in 1948-49 that the association decided for the first time to award the Barnard Cup to the premiers. A-GRADE PREMIERS YEAR WINNER CAPTAIN YEAR WINNER CAPTAIN 1911-12 Capel G.
