Growing Our Discipleship
Growing Our Discipleship ANNUAL REPORT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2016 JULY 1, 2015-JUNE 30, 2016 Overview Welcome from Archbishop Lori 1 Vision and Mission 2 Letter from Foundation President 3 Financials Year in Review 4 Investment Review 5 Performance Review 6 Selected Financial Information 7 Endowments Growing Our Discipleship 9 New Endowment Funds 12 Endowment Funds by Purpose 13 Donor Advised Funds 25 Legacy League 26 About the Foundation Foundation Leadership 29 Contact Us 31 Our Legacy 32 Dear Friends in Christ, In the summer of 2015, I issued my first pastoral letter as Archbishop of Baltimore, A Light Brightly Visible, Lighting the Path to Missionary Discipleship. In it, I asked the people of our Archdiocese to enter into a deeper relationship with Christ, to be not merely His disciples but His missionary disciples, extending the light of the Gospel to others among us so that they, too, could fully welcome His Word into their hearts. The Catholic Community Foundation is uniquely positioned to aid this evangelization effort for years to come. “Through their endowed giving, Foundation contributors are helping to foster a culture of Catholic growth and renewal.” Established in 1998 by my predecessor, Cardinal William H. Keeler, the Catholic Community Foundation has grown to over 470 separate funds, each with its own unique purpose and benefit. Not only are our parishes well-represented and supported by the Foundation, so too are our Catholic schools, clergy, religious and a host of ministries that are critically integral to carrying out the Church’s evangelizing work. Indeed, through their endowed giving, Foundation contributors are helping to foster a culture of Catholic growth and renewal. -

FALL 2007 Office of Development P.O. Box 1710 Beltsville, MD 20704-1710 (301) 210-7444 VOL.19 No.1 Dear Partners in the Lasallian Mission of Catholic Education, “If the Lord does not build the house,” we recall the psalmist advising, “in vain do its builders labor.” A number of Visions readers, doubtless, have had the experience of building their own homes. They understand the emotional roller coaster that process can be. We can start with “vain” plans of demonstrating our success to neighbors and relatives and quickly degenerate, in the face of delays, cost overruns, and shoddy workmanship, into taking the names of various contractors, craftsmen, and inspectors “in vain” in another sense of that word! I am happy to report that the labor of building the Lord’s own house through Catholic educa - Brother James Butler, FSC tion in our Baltimore District has continued in earnest, not in vain, this past year. So many of our Provincial pro tem schools, Central Catholic, La Salle High, La Salle University, Calvert Hall, and St. John’s, to name a few, have undertaken extensive renovations. The face of that old grand lady of the shore, Ocean Rest, has been uplifted a little, once of necessity, and another time through a generous do - nation from someone wishing our older Brothers to be more comfortable there. In this report... ¨ The primary construction we undertake, of course, is not of school buildings or even institu - tions, but of lives. We do this in accord with the spirit and mission left to us by our Founder, St. -

A Statement by Religious Leaders in Iowa on Global Climate Change April 2017
A Statement by Religious Leaders in Iowa on Global Climate Change April 2017 As religious leaders representing diverse faith traditions in Iowa, we believe that global climate change is one of the most pressing moral challenges facing our world today. On this Earth Day, we feel an obligation to speak on behalf of the most vulnerable in our society and to act in love for our neighbors both locally and globally. The relationship between Earth and all of its inhabitants is beautiful and complex. When one part of that relationship is threatened, ultimately it is all threatened. According to 97 percent of the world’s actively publishing climate scientists, carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of fossil fuels is a major driver of global climate change that threatens the health of our families, the well-being of our communities, and ultimately almost all life on Earth.1 Current impacts include severe storms, deadly heat waves, drought, flooding, and wildfires. According to scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), global surface temperature in 2016 was the warmest since official records began in 1880. It was the third year in a row to set a new heat record, and the fifth time the record has been broken since the start of the 21st century.2 The current rate of global climate change is unprecedented in human history and has few if any precedents in the history of Earth.3 We urge people of faith to acknowledge these scientific findings and to take seriously their ethical implications. Carbon pollution is an environmental justice issue. -

The purpose of the draft is to assign amateur baseball players to major league teams. The draft order is determined based on the previous season's standings, with the team possessing the worst record receiving the first pick. Eligible amateur players include graduated high school players who have not attended college, any junior or community college players, and players at four-year colleges and universities three years after first enrolling or after their 21st birthdays (whichever occurs first). From 1966-1986, a January draft was held in addition to the June draft targeting high school players who graduated in the winter, junior college players, and players who had dropped out of four-year colleges and universities. To date, there have been 1,170 Maryland players selected in the First-Year Player Drafts either from a Maryland High School (337), Maryland College (458), Non-Maryland College (357), or a Maryland amateur baseball club (18). The most Maryland selections in a year was in 1970 (38) followed by 1984 (37) and 1983 (36). The first Maryland selection was Jim Spencer from Andover High School with the 11th overall selection in the inaugural 1965 June draft. -
