A number of students in Robert Morehead Middle School's EAST program received awards for making submissions to the ArcGIS Mapping Competition. Maps submitted had to be an original creation of each student or team and focus on an Arkansas-based theme, and address an issue or issues that span the state, highlight individual counties, cities or towns. We are so proud of all the students that submitted projects for this event. Candice Jones May 23, 2019 at 7:39 AM Author: Candice Jones DHS EARNS EDUCATIONAL AWARDS Once again, the Office of Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has recognized the Dollarway School District as one where students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire in the areas of Math & English Language Arts. The ACT Aspire test is a powerful college & career readiness tool to help students and their parents monitor progress toward a successful ACT test from third grade through tenth grade. According to OEP, growth is the best indicator of the positive impact a district is having on students. Outstanding Educational Performance awards were based on the 2018 content growth score calculated by the Arkansas Department of Education. These growth scores reflect how much high school students in the district improved from 2017, compared to how much they were expected to grow considering prior achievement. The importance of the Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks to Arkansas K-12 education cannot be overlooked. Parents and educators readily agree on the importance of developing reading, writing and math skills. They even agree in our technological society on the importance of teaching science, but what about social studies? It is through the study of social studies that students become aware of the world around them and how that world directly impacts their lives. By learning about economics, civics and government, geography and history, students are able to develop core beliefs and values, an understanding of how the past has shaped the present and will shape the future, and the interconnectedness of the content areas.
