  • Buffalo Sabres Digital Press
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips February 6, 2020 Sabres' Jonas Johansson to make first NHL start after 'hiccups, road blocks' By Lance Lysowski The Buffalo News February 5, 2020 Jonas Johansson could not have envisioned that he would realize his dream under such difficult circumstances. After two-plus seasons in the minors, the 24-year-old goalie replaced Carter Hutton with the Buffalo Sabres facing a four-goal deficit in the second period Tuesday night. Two minutes later, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, two top forwards in the National Hockey League, skated down the ice for an odd-man rush against Johansson. Rantanen, a 31-goal scorer last season, snapped the puck off the near post and over Johansson' shoulder. First shot faced in the NHL, first goal against. "Not the way you want the game to go ... " Johansson said with a smile. He didn't fold in the face of adversity, though. Johansson stopped each of the next 13 shots he faced, including a highlight-reel save in which he extended his left leg pad to stifle a backhanded attempt by Gabriel Landeskog. Johansson's performance in the third period of a 6-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche ensured he will start either Thursday against Detroit or Friday at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers. It will be the next chapter in a journey that has included injuries and doubt. "It’s been like a roller coaster for me, ever since I got drafted," Johansson, a third-round draft choice in 2014, said following practice Wednesday. "This has always been the goal.

HURRICANE WARNING Vol. 15 , No. 3 The official newsletter of the Carolina Hurricanes Booster Club Apr 2015 Hurricanes Alumni Visit the Booster Club Jesse Boulerice, Niclas Wallin Talk with the Boosters Before 4th Annual Alumni Game Carl Schreck, Donna Jo Stephenson with “The Secret Weapon”: Former Hurricanes player former Hurricanes player Jesse Boulerice. Nic Wallin with Suzanne Hagen. Jesse is a financial advisor with Merill Lynch. Wallin helped the Canes win the Stanley Cup in 2006. Prior to the Rangers game on March 21st, the Carolina Hurricanes Booster Club members in attendance at the pregame reception got to interact with former Hurricanes players Jesse Boulerice and Niclas Wallin. Both appeared in the 4th Annual Carolina Hurricanes Alumni Game at PNC Arena. Jesse Boulerice played professional hockey for 16 years including stops with 4 NHL teams (Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, St Louis Blues, and the Edmonton Oilers). Following his retirement in 2011, Jesse joined Merill Lynch as a Financial Advisor. His retirement after all those years of being labeled as an enforcer took its toll on Boulerice’s enthusiasm for the game. Last September, when he coached a RYHA Y14 team, it brought back the passion he once had. Hurricanes Alumni - Continued on page 7. • Buffalo Sabres Digital Press
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 16, 2017 Lehner says Sabres need to do their job By John Vogl The Buffalo News January 15, 2017 The way Robin Lehner sees it, the Sabres aren’t holding up their end of the bargain as professional athletes. “When you lose games out of not doing our job – it’s what we get paid for, you know? – it’s time to accept that,” the goaltender said Sunday. “This is our job, and we’ve got to buy into what we’re supposed to do and do it.” The Sabres’ inconsistency shows they haven’t bought into anything. No one, including Buffalo’s players, knows what the team will look like Monday afternoon when Dallas visits KeyBank Center. “The frustrating part is there’s so many positive things in our games, but then we kind of shoot ourselves in the foot,” Lehner said. “We have a couple good games, then we get away from it. Taking a step forward and two steps back, we’ve got to find an answer.” The Sabres seem to be nearing a breaking point. There are players who are sick of seeing the same mistakes. There are players who continue to make them. “It’s not going to come from one guy,” Lehner said. “It’s not going to come from 10 guys. Every single guy has got to get on the same page. We’ve got to totally buy into the system and do things. “It’s not 10-game stretches. It’s not 20 games. It’s do it every game, 82 games a season.” The last time the Sabres were home, they exited on a triumphant run.
