Mobility impaired All floors are accessible via a lift. The lift is big enough for approximately 2 or 3 customers wheelchair users and the controls can be easily accessed. All exhibitions are easily accessible for a wheelchair user, but the smaller display areas may be somewhat over-crowded, which may not be as easily accessible. The café is on the second floor and is easily accessible for a wheelchair user.

Visually impaired There is Braille on the lift controls, however there is no large print or Braille customers documents available, either regarding the Centre or the emergency procedure. A very loud alarm is used in emergencies and staff always ensure that all visitors are evacuated.

Emergency situations Staff always ensure that all visitors are evacuated in the event of an emergency. A very loud alarm is used in such circumstances; however there is no audio, large print or Braille versions of the emergency procedure. There are also fire marshals. Refuge points are located on the landing of each stair well. At these points there is an intercom, which goes through to security offices at the Quays, who then are able to bring specific equipment if necessary.

Parking There is a small gravelled area, there is no sign indicating that it is for disabled parking, but cars do park there. Disabled visitors can also be dropped at the edge of this area, as there is a lower kerb and access is fairly easy, although slightly rough due to the gravel.

Access Statement No access statement. There is a specific plan of the Gloucester Waterways Museum designed with wheelchair users in mind illustrating the most practical route around the museum. The floating exhibition located outside the museum is not accessible to wheelchair users.

Parking There are 2 – 4 blue badge bays located in front of Coots (close to the Museum). There are no time restrictions on these bays. Disabled visitors should display their blue badge in the window. If these bays are in use, visitors can use the car park in front of the Gloucester Waterways Museum with no time restrictions.

Additional information The 45 Minute boat trips on board the Queen Bodicea can accommodate a few wheelchair users at time. Please note however that the area in which the Wheelchair user will be sitting is not under cover.

Access Statement There is no access statement as such however there is a section entitled ‘Ticket Booking and Access Information’ on the website, stating that wheelchair access is available to the box office, the cinema, the theatre, the galleries and the café bar. This information is also on the brochure and both sources state that an induction loop is available in the cinema and theatre and that the brochure is available in large print or audio-described format. Both sources mention the complimentary ticket offered to carers of wheelchair-users.

Parking There is no private car parking facilities for the Guildhall. It is possible for wheelchair users to park in the Kings Walk multi-storey car park, which has a lift directly down to the Guildhall. The pavement outside is very level. Other parking facilities are around a 5-10 minutes’ walk, due to the pedestrian area of the City Centre.

The lift has a mirror on one side and controls are situated to be easily useable by a wheelchair user. The counter is also at a suitable height to be used by a wheelchair user. Complimentary tickets are available to carers and Service Dogs are permitted.

Emergency A loud alarm and lights are used for hearing and visually impaired visitors. Monks and Maritime Walk Walk is fully accessible. The gate from the Priory grounds to the canal side is closed at weekends and at dusk, because of the proximity to the college. The docks surfaces are varied and not always smooth. Bridges over the Dry Docks and Neilson's Boat Yard need care in crossing – steep slope, movement.

 Blue Badge holders can park on double yellow or single yellow lines for up to 3 hours – but they must display a time clock showing when they parked (clock issued with Blue Badges)

 Blue Badge holders are not allowed to park on Double Kerb Markings. This is one or two vertical stripes going from the top of the kerb to the road edge

 Blue Badge holders can park in a disabled bay without a time clock (unless there are time restrictions in place)

 Blue Badge holders are not allowed to park in a Bus Stop (during hours of operation), Taxi ranks, red routes or Urban Clearways, loading bays or whilst a ban on loading or unloading is in force. Bus, tram or cycle lanes or tracks, School ‘keep clear’ markings, Pedestrian crossings (Zebra, Pelican, toucan and puffin crossings) including areas marked with zig-zag lines.

 Ensure you are parked fully in marked bays.

 Blue Badge holders must not park in reserved spaces such as Permit Holders, Doctors, Local Residents.

 Blue Badge holders cannot park in Pedestrian Zones, unless there is a designated bay for Disabled Badge holders.

 Blue Badge holders cannot park on the pavement.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING BAYS

 There are a small number of bays in the Oxebode, but outside the bay parking is prohibited due to a 24 hour loading ban.

 There are a small number of bays in Northgate Street outside Peacocks, but again outside the bays parking is prohibited due to the pedestrian zone.

 There are a small number of bays in Eastgate Street, but Blue Badge holders must be aware that there are also loading bays and it is prohibited to park in loading bays.

 Blue Badge holders can park in City Council Car parks free of charge for 3 hours but must ensure a valid Blue Badge is clearly displayed and the time clock is set showing the time of arrival.

Shopmobility can be used by anybody who has limited mobility. You do not need to be registered as disabled. In normal circumstances, the minimum age for all motorised vehicles is 14, and if under 18, vehicles can only be issued under carer supervision.

Every customer needs to register with Shopmobility before being allowed to take out a vehicle. Shopmobility staff will take some personal details including name, address, date of birth, contact number, weight range and type of vehicle required.

You will also be required to read fully our terms and conditions and sign to state that you have read and understood them. You will have a copy of these for your reference and Shopmobility will keep a copy.

It would be very helpful if you could bring a form of photo ID e.g.:

To book a scooter/wheelchair please call 01452 302871, preferably as far in advance as possible. If calling outside office hours please leave a message on our answerphone. Booking is essential to secure your choice of vehicle due to high demand.
