BALLAGHADERREEN AND THE MAYO-ROSCOMMON BOUNDARY h Map Location of Ballaa:haderreen: In 1824 the British Parliament authorised a survey of the whole island of Ireland, at a scale of six inches to one mile. This undertaking was entrusted to the military Board of Ordnance, and the survey became known as the Ordnance Survey. The beautiful 6" maps, produced as a ,result of the survey, were published over the years 1833 to 1846. The maps for County Roscommon appeared in 1837; those for County Mayo in 1838. If one wishes to find the map of the Ballaghaderreen area in that first Ordnance Survey, one turns to Mayo, sheet 74. After the first survey, the Ordnance Survey - as the surveying body became known - continued the work of mapping the country. It produced maps at different scales, and it published revisions of earlier maps. A major revision of the original 6" maps took place in the early years of this century. If one wishes to find the map of Ballaghaderreen area in this edition, one must now tum to Roscommon, sheet 8. Clearly by that time Ballaghaderreen had moved to County Roscommon. The Ordnance Survey does not, of course, decide the county boundaries. It simply follows the boundaries laid down by the bodies, who organise local government in the country. These bodies, sometime near the end of the last century, decided that the boundary between Counties Mayo and Roscommon should be re-drawn, so as to bring the Ballaghaderreen area from Mayo into Roscommon. Since the boundary was over three hundred years old at that time, it seems of interest to ask who made the change, and why they made it.

The County Development Plan is a document that sets out the overall strategy and vision for the proper planning and sustainable development of the county over the 6 year plan period. The Plan will be prepared in the context of the framework of national and regional strategies and guidelines, and must be prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended). I n presenting tliis final Report of the proceedings of the Relief Committee of the Society of Friends, it is needful to have reference to the Report which was published in 1852, and to which was annexed a statement of accounts, showing a balance re­ maining unappropriated of £2,765 7s. id. This sum, after the payment of some small out­ standing claims, was invested at interest to await the probable contingency of a period of distress occurring hereafter, in which such assistance as was afforded in 1847 an(l 1848 might again be required. The first claim which it appeared right to ' recognize was made in i860, and came from the barony of Erris, an extensive district in the north­ west of the county of Mayo, consisting chiefly of unproductive bog and mountain, and thinly in­ habited in proportion to its extent. The crops of 1859 ha<l suffered severely from local causes, and there was in consequence much distress in this district in the spring and early summer of i860. The Committee, on being applied to, requested a gentleman who had visited Erris in 1847 and 1848 4 to investigate its present condition ; on his report it was agreed to afford some assistance, and even­ tually the sum of £562 12s.

Carlow to enhance the remote/hybrid working function of all 6. Cavan County Council Cavan NWR € 225,000.00 Project aims to allow 10 BCPs in Cavan to run a range of digital activities and enhance remote working spaces for all members of the community. The locations in Cavan of these BCPs are Cornafean , Templeport , Bunnoe ,Mullahoran, Drumavaddy ,Castlerahan , Killenkere,Kildallan, Drumgoon,Swanlinbar. The 10 communities aim to develop flexible working solutions by developing and enhancing digital workspaces and to develop these BCPs into digital hubs. Proposal for funding includes additional switches and access points, IOT equipment, PV solar panels, electric car charging points & privacy booths. Also sought as a part of this investment will be relevant office furniture, perspex screens and security systems. Cavan Digital Hub Cavan NWR € 11,016.00 The purpose of this project is to strengthen the hubs recovery strategy as the economy opens fully and to support new digitally focused start ups and businesses in their growth within the area. Installation of additional technology enabled systems such as a remote access system will improve the hubs service current offerings. Clare County Council Clare Southern € 209,700.00 This project will upgrade exisiting hubs and BCPs in Ennis, Ennistymon, Kilrush, Flagmount and Feakle. Through this proposal Clare plan to enhance remote working space for all members in local communities by introducing additional hot desk facilities in each location, upgrade internal and external signage and upgrading disability access.

This order may be cited as the County of Roscommon Local Electoral Areas Order 2008. 2. (1) The County of Roscommon shall be divided into the local electoral areas which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order. (2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area. (3) The number of members of Roscommon County Council to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area. 3. Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to an electoral division shall be construed as referring to such electoral division as existing at the date of this Order and every reference to a former rural district shall be construed as a reference to that district as constituted immediately before the 1st day of October 1925. 4. The County of Roscommon Local Electoral Areas Order 1998 (S.I. No. 287 of 1998) is hereby revoked.
