Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Islamic Azad University, Iran Microbiology and Virology, Georgia Conference Secretary Moozhan Serpoush IV About “One Health: Problems and Solutions” Conference "Getting Together to Enhance Better Cooperation and Collaboration between Health and Environmental Professionals to Promote Understanding of the Importance of One Health" On June 1-2, 2018, the 1st International Conference on “One Health: Problems and Solutions” was held at Khazar University, Azerbaijan. Khazar University has been incorporated into the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) Consortium housed at Harvard University; simultaneously, the conference announced as "Partner Event" by PHA held its annual conference at University of Edinburgh, UK. More than 30 experts from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Georgia, USA, Canada, and Switzerland participated in the conference. Moreover, the representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ministry of Health, in Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies, Ministry of Agriculture, Food Safety Agency, and the local district municipality attended the conference. The professionals with various expertise ranging from public health to ecosystem health, and also government officials gathered to build capacity, discuss the problems and solutions, tackle health problems, and support One Health approaches. The goals of the conference were to enhance better cooperation and collaboration between health and environmental professionals, promote understanding of the importance of One Health, exchange data and knowledge, and recognize and improve human, animal, and ecosystem health issues in Azerbaijan and the world.     Medicinal Properties of Cannabis According to Medieval Manuscripts of Azerbaijan Farid U. Alakbarov ABSTRACT. Azerbaijani people have rich and ancient traditions in the medicinal use of cannabis. The traditional methods of its application are described in the medieval Azerbaijani manuscripts in the field of medi- cine and pharmacognosy written in Old Azerbaijani, Persian, Arabic and date back to the 9-18th centuries AD. As a result of these studies, it was established that various parts (the roots, resin, leaves and seeds) of Cannabis sativa L. were widely used in traditional medicine of medi- eval Azerbaijan. Recently, a number of forgotten recipes of the medi- cines containing cannabis have been deciphered. These recipes of the Middle Ages may be applied in modern medicine once they have been experimentally and clinically tested. Jalal Aliyev was a distinguished and respected plant biologist of our time, a great teacher, and great human being. He was a pioneer of photosynthesis research in Azerbaijan. Academician Aliyev was deeply involved in dynamic research on several aspects of photosynthesis for 65 years; he focused mainly on the important crop wheat; this research was integrative in its approach, involving physiological, biophysical, biochemical, and the molecular-genetic bases of plant productivity, as well as on the production processes of the structural-functional organization of plants-from the molecular level to the whole plant. Jalal Aliyev instigated also the development of new directions of research, namely molecular biology, molecular genetics, gene and cellular biotechnology, mathematical and computational biology, and bioinformatics as applied to crop productivity in Azerbaijan.
