HINTS ON SPRAYING TECHNIQUES AND PROCEDURES ARE LISTED ON PAGE 2 OF THIS BOOKLET. How to use Touch-Up Paints 1. Paint in good weather only, 15-30ºC and relative humidity less than 60%. 2. Surface to be sprayed must be absolutely clean and dry. Thoroughly remove all dirt, rust, oil, grease and silicone/polish/wash residue. Use degreasing solvent. Sand previously painted surfaces. 3. Mask surrounding areas to protect from overspray. 4. Bare Metal Surfaces and Aluminium: Spray with Etch Primer (fast drying and easy sanding) to re-establish original surface level. Rust Areas: Use Auto Zinc as an anti-rust primer that controls rust and seals the surface to protect against corrosion. (Colour coat should be applied within two hours or left for 48 hours.) Plastic Surfaces: Use Plastic Trim Primer prior to spraying a colour coat. Promotes adhesion to bumper bars and plastic body mouldings. 5. Shake can vigorously for two full minutes and after sound of agitator is heard (repeat at intervals during use to ensure paint remains thoroughly mixed). 6. Trial spraying on a similar surface to check colour match and spraying technique is suggested. 7. Hold can approximately 20-25cm from prepared surface and spray from side to side with light even strokes. DO NOT attempt to get complete coverage in one pass. Several light coats will prevent paint sag and runs. Allow 20 minutes between each coat. Each coat should be dry before re-coating. Metallic Paints: Overspray with 2-3 coats of Top Coat Clear to improve protection. 8. Allow 5-7 days for paint to harden, wash and polish the painted area. 9. After use, turn can upside down and spray until valve clears of paint. If spray-nozzle is clogged with excess paint, remove nozzle and soak in thinners for one minute. Top Coat Clear or COB (Clear Over Base) Top Coat Clear or COB is the top coat of a two part system consisting of a metallic base colour and clear top coat. The system gives improved protection against UV radiation and airborne pollutants. It applies to most metallics, all pearlescent, mica paints and fluorescent colours. The metallic, pearlescent and mica colours to which Top Coat Clear is applicable in the Holts DupliColor range are marked in the book with a tick (√). The caps on the can are also marked COB. Directions for using Top Coat Clear BASE COLOUR Spray as per directions on the can. Note that appropriate primer should be used. DS117/PS117 TOP COAT CLEAR HCT108-C CLEAR 1. Allow base colour to dry (20-30 minutes) 2. To achieve desired results several coats of Top Coat Clear will be required 3. Apply a light coat of Top Coat Clear and allow to dry for 20-30 minutes 4. Then apply additional full coats as required allowing each coat to dry for 20-30 minutes 5. Allow 7 days before waxing.
