ON THE RECORD On the record — April 4 Published: April 4, 2013 - 11:36 PM University of Akron senior center Zeke Marshall has been named to the East All-Star Team for the 2013 Reese’s Division I College All-Star Game. Marshall will be the first UA athlete to play in the game, and one of only two MAC athletes, the other being Ohio University’s D.J. Cooper. Marshall finishes his Akron career as the all-time leader in blocked shots with 368. The All-Star game will be played at 5 p.m. today at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The game is composed of 22 senior student-athletes from NCAA Division I programs across the nation. Track and field The University of Akron track and field team is ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region, ahead of programs such as Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Purdue. The Zips carry a number of nationally ranked athletes, such as No. 2-ranked pole vaulter Shawn Barber, No. 10-ranked 800 runner Gabriel Genovesi and multi-event athletes Alex McCune and Bryan Jones, ranked No. 8 and No. 9 in the decathlon, respectively. The women’s team has also fared well thus far, ranked No. 4 in the region. Lacrosse Archbishop Hoban High School will host the inaugural Midwest Collegiate Women’s Lacrosse Challenge on Saturday. Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Michigan and Michigan State will play four games, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the fourth game beginning at 4:30 p.m. Swimming Cuyahoga Falls senior and Ohio State University recruit Andrew Appleby won the 100-yard backstroke at the YMCA Nationals Short Courser Championships with a personal-record time of 48.23 seconds. Appleby, now national champion, was also Division I state champion in the event this year with a time of 49.00 seconds. Softball • sophomore Emma Johnson was named MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week. Johnson threw two victories and earned her first of the season in four games against Ohio and Akron over the weekend. In 16⅔ innings of work, Johnson struck out 17 and walked six to go along with a 2.10 ERA. • Kent State’s doubleheader against Cleveland State on April 17 has been rescheduled to April 30. The change comes as a result of Cleveland State needing to play a conference series with Detroit on April 17, a game rescheduled from an earlier date that was canceled due to inclement weather conditions.

• The Racers, who had the first pick in the 2013 College Draft held at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tenn., selected LSU All-American pitcher Rachele Fico. Fico posted a 1.57 ERA and had 733 and 32 shutouts in her three seasons with the Tigers. The Racers took another pitcher with the last pick of the second round, selecting Ivy Renfroe out of Tennessee. Louisiana-Lafayette outfielder Brianna Cherry, Georgia pitcher Tess Sito and Arizona third basemen Brigette Del Ponte rounded out the selections for the Racers. — Staff report
