  • SNW Virtual Meeting Minutes Sept 2020
Barents Euro-Arctic Council Working Group on Environment Subgroup on Nature and Water Minutes of the virtual meeting 23.9.2020 1. Opening of the meeting Chair of the Subgroup Anna Kuhmonen opened the meeting and introduced the agenda. The meeting started with a round of introductions. The list of participants can be found at the end of this document. Ilona Grekelä acts as secretary and writes the minutes. 2. Adoption of the minutes from the previous meeting The Minutes from the previous meeting were adopted. The annex 1 to the SNW work programme 2020-2022 Project list has been updated. This document was delivered to the subgroup ahead of the meeting. New updates are welcome in the future as well to the email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected]. Always before the meeting SNW’s members will get the updated project list. 3. Suggestion on Biodiversity commitment from the Barents Region Ms. Henna Haapala, Ministry of the Environment of Finland (presentation) WGE chair Ms. Henna Haapala presented a suggestion for a joint voluntary commitment to protect biodiversity, that could be given under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Haapala noted that the Barents region has unique and special ecosystems and already long experience of cross-border initiatives to protect it. The CBD has invited stakeholders ranging from public and private organizations to individuals to give voluntary commitments. Link to CBD is especially topical now, as the Aichi targets are expiring in 2020 and a new global biodiversity framework is being negotiated. The voluntary commitment from the Barents region is suggested to focus on freshwater ecosystems primarily in the river catchment areas that cross either international borders or borders between regions/counties/oblasts.

Press Pack Updated May 2014 About Lochaber Fisheries Trust At Lochaber Fisheries Trust we work with river owners, managers, anglers and government agencies to ensure that Lochaber’s freshwaters are protected and managed sustainably. Our aim is to preserve and restore the region’s aquatic environments and ensure that our fish populations persist for many generations to come. Our work covers the following areas; monitoring & research, habitat restoration, fishery management, education, bio-security, interactions with Aquaculture and consultancy. Lochaber is one of the UK’s most stunning and dramatic landscapes and offers anglers a wide choice of fishing from the 'Queen of Scottish salmon rivers' in the shadow of Britain's highest mountain to the icy waters of the country's deepest loch for trout. Lochaber is unique, for fishing with a sense of the untouched and the wild, Lochaber rewards anglers with superb game, course and sea fishing against a backdrop of the most magnificent scenery. Fishing in Lochaber is available to suit every budget, from £7 per day for trout fishing to around £100 for a day’s salmon fishing. • For salmon fishing the River Lochy is unrivalled on the West Coast of Scotland. • The rivers Aline, Inverie, Nevis and Strontian also offer outstanding salmon and sea trout fishing. • Lochs Arkaig and Morar are ideal for ferox and brownies. • Lochs Arienas, Doilet and Dubh-Lochan have plentiful trout. • Loch Arkaig and the River Lochy are perfect for pike anglers. • The coastline of Lochaber is ideal for sea angling. Rhode Island Blueways Alliance PO Box 1565 PaddleRI 2008 North Kingstown, RI 02852 Celebrating Paddling Chair: Keith Gonsalves On RI’s Rivers and Bay Vice Chair: Bruce Hooke Secretary: Terry Meyer Treasurer: Meg Kerr The PaddleRI 2008 celebration was a huge success with over 200 paddlers participating. PaddleRI was sponsored by the RI Blueways Alliance but the individual trips were organized and hosted by local organizations – watershed councils, Save the Bay and local conservation commissions. The celebration would not have been possible without their enthusiastic participation. The RI Blueways Alliance mission is to develop a water trail network linking Rhode Island’s rivers, lakes and ponds to Narragansett Bay and to use the trail to promote safety, conservation, recreation and economic development. PaddleRI 2008 celebrated the network of paddling opportunities that make up our water trail network. We would like to thank our sponsors -- the New England Grassroots Environmental Fund, the RI Resource Conservation & Development Area Council and the Rhode Island Foundation. Salt Ponds Spring Paddle - Ninigret Pond Saturday, May 31: The Salt Ponds Coalition’s trip was planned for May 31, but the paddle was postponed due to weather. On June 1, about 30 paddlers arrived at the US Fish & Wildlife kayak launch accessed through Ninigret Park at 8:30am with plans to get underway by 9:00am. But Mother Nature had other plans…. The fog was so thick that you couldn’t see where to paddle. Paddlers waited, listening to presentations by the US Fish & Wildlife Service and the Salt Pond’s Coalition’s Art Ganz, hoping for better conditions.
