Certified Lay Servant – entry level lay ministry that requires 2 sessions of training which includes basic lay serving and advanced lay serving.

Certified Lay Speaker – is a level two lay ministry for those who wish to preach from the pulpit in order to supply churches whose minister may be on vacation or sick. Certified lay speaker requires a basic lay speaking session and 5 additional advanced sessions.

Certified Lay Minister: A certified lay minister is a certified lay servant, certified lay missioner who is called and ! equipped (completes 4 modules online and/or in-person) to conduct public worship, care for the congregation, assist in program leadership, develop new and existing faith communities, preach the Word, lead small groups, or establish community ministries as part of a ministry team with the supervision and support of a clergy person. A certified lay minister is assigned by a district superintendent in accordance with ¶419.2. (2016 Book of Discipline, ¶268.1). CLMs Mission Opportunities for You!!! also now have the opportunity with further training to specialize in the following areas: Lay Missioner, Lay Missionary/ Church Planter, Children's Faith Formation, Men's Ministry Specialist, and United Methodist Parish Nurse. Licensed Local Pastor: A licensed local pastor answers God’s call by serving a local congregation or extension → Young adults, Middle adults, Older adults, teens who would be willing to help ministry. Ordained Elder: Elders are ordained clergy who lead and serve the Church in the ministries of Word, Sacrament, Order, and Service. Elders’ primary responsibilities are communicating the faith and proclaiming God’s Word through preaching and teaching. Elders administer the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion and order the Church’s ministry. Most elders serve as pastors in charge of local congregations. However, elders may also serve in a variety of extension ministry settings (such as chaplaincy or pastoral counseling).

Apart from serving God in the local church, ordained or licensed clergy may also be appointed to ministries in specialized settings which extend Christ’s love and justice into the world. These settings are usually institutions with the primary purpose of education, incarceration, military and healthcare.
