FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, June 15, 2013 CONTACT: Garin Narain, Jon Steinberg or Jason Roose, Hawks Media Relations (404) 878-3800 DARVIN HAM RETURNS TO HAWKS ORGANIZATION AS ASSISTANT COACH ATLANTA, GA ----- The Atlanta Hawks have named Darvin Ham as an assistant coach, Hawks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer announced today. Ham spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. “Darvin has a great feel for the game and knows what it takes for a team to be successful and compete at a high level," Budenholzer said. “He was a smart player who played with intensity and toughness every night and he has gone about coaching the same way.” Prior to his stint with the Lakers, Ham was the head coach of the New Mexico Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League in 2010-11 and an assistant coach with the Thunderbirds from 2008-10. As a player, the eight-year veteran appeared in 417 career games (45 starts) with Denver, Indiana, Washington, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Detroit, averaging 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 12.4 minutes (.518 FG%). He also played in 55 postseason games (with the Bucks and Pistons; 11 starts), putting up 1.3 points and 1.2 rebounds in 7.4 minutes (.569 FG%), starting 11 times. He was a member of the Hawks during the 2002-03 season, playing in 75 contests, and averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in 12.3 minutes (.447 FG%). The Saginaw, MI native starred collegiately at Texas Tech. The Atlanta Hawks, a member of the National Basketball Association since 1949, play in the Southeast Division, along with the Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards. The traditional statistics which are recorded tell us only about the contribution of individual players (eg. points scored, rebounds, etc). However, there are subtle aspects of play such as defensive help, setting screens and verbal communication that are known to be important but are not routinely recorded. The model we propose is based on the Bayesian social relations model. The results help us identify aspects of player performance. Data from the NBA 2004 and NBA 2005 finals are used throughout the project to illustrate our approach. NNEBRASKAEBRASKA BBASKETBALLASKETBALL Two years into the Doc Sadler era, there is no question about the excitement building around the Nebraska basketball program. That enthusiasm not only comes as a direct result of the energetic and engaging personality at the helm of the program but from the hard-working and increasingly talented squad he puts on the floor every game. Sadler’s squads have reached their full potential each season, including a 20-win season and NIT berth last year. He has reshaped the program, bringing a new attitude to Lincoln and his players have bought in whole-heartedly, evidenced by a trio of Nebraska all-conference and all- newcomer honors in 2008. With each new accomplishment, the future gets brighter for Nebraska with Sadler on the sideline.
