In this paper are given the descriptions of two new species belonging to the genus Nemophora Hofmannsegg. Before going further I wish to express my hearty thanks to Mr. Toshio Okuof Hokkaido University for his kind help which made this study possible. All the specimens mentioned in this paper are preserved in my collection.

Nemophora moriokensis sp. nov.

(PI. 1, fig. 1, 2) £-9-. Antennae in male three and half times as long as fore wing, white, dark fuscous towards base; in female as long, thickened with scales on basal two-thirds, black, white on outer one third. Fore wing moderate, outer margin oblique, fulvous ; two purplish narrowly black-margined metallic fasciae, one about, the other beyond, middle ; three slender black longitudinal lines and four purplish narrowly black-margined metallic streaks on basal half ; the first line above discoidal cell; the second in it, often indistinct; the third on submedian fold; all the lines somewhat shorter than the third streak ; the first streak along costal margin ; the second shorter, arising from middle of the first line ; the third above, the fourth below, submedian fold; the first reaching to inner fascia; the others not; outer area glossy deep purple; four to six short fulvous longitudinal streaks beyond outer fascia ; cilia dark fuscous, with brassy golden lustre. Hind wing glossy purplish fuscous, whitish above discoidal cell ; cilia dark fuscous, with biassy golden lustre at base. Under side. Fore wing pale fulvous, mixed with purplish scales; a fulvous fascia beyond middle; outer area and cilia as in the upper side. Hind wing nearly similar to the upper side. Length of fore wing: 7-8.5 mm.(£), 7-7,5 mm.(å ¥å ). Habitat : North Honshu (Morioka). Holotype £: Ueda, Morioka, North Honshu, ll. vi. 1955, M. Okano leg.

Allotype $- : Yanagawa, Morioka, 19 vi. 1956, M. Ckano leg. Paratopotypes : Data same as holotype, 3 ^£. Paratypes: Ueda, Morioka, 21. vi. 1955, 4 ££< 9. vi. 1956, 1 £; 12.vi. 1956, 1 £; 14. vi. 1956, 4 ££ 1 %-; 27. vi. 1956, 1 £; Yanagawa, Morioka, 19. vi. 1956, 3 £<&, M. Okano leg. This new species is most closely related to N. sapporensis Matsumura*, but differs from it in the narrower wings, the shorter black line on the submedian fold and the less prominent fulvous streaks on the outer area of the fore wing above, as well as in the slightly different shape of the valva.

Nemophora montana sp. nov. (PI. 1, fig. 5, 6)

Labial palpi short, fuscous. Vertex with black hairs. Front dark purple. Compound eyes small. Thorax shining brassy golden. Allotype Q- : Goshogake -onsen (1000 m.), Hachimantai Mts., 28. vi. 1952, M. Okano leg. Paratypes: Oage numa, Hachimantai Mts., 17. vii. 1951. 2 ^-^ ; Goshogake-onsen, Hachimantai Mts., 19. vii. 1951, 1 £ ; Coshiki-numa (800 m.), Azuma Mts., North Honshu, 18 Wii. 1952, 1 £, M. Okano leg. * Ihis species has been treated as a synonym of and is clearly distinguished from staudiiigereUa in N.siaudingerella Christoph by Inoue (Check List the black hairs on the vertex (in staudingerella Lep. Jap., pt. l : 8. 1954). So fsr as 1 examined, "rostgelb"_), the broader wings and the different howerer, sapporensis is undoubtedly a good species, markings on the fore wing above.

Of U & §£ Nemophora jg

This new species is very closely related to N. moriokensis Okano, but is easily separable from it in the larger size, the different marking on the outer area of the fore wing above as well as in the different shape of the valva.
