Director and Associate/Full Professor, University-Arizona State University International Tourism College

The -Arizona State University Joint International Tourism College (HAITC) is seeking one full-time, benefits-eligible, 9-month associate or full professor with summer administrative responsibilities to serve as director. The position is hired by and located at ASU in Arizona. This is a tenured position and requires the candidate to provide evidence of scholarly contributions as well as fulfill all other tenure requirements at ASU. Under administrative direction, this position is responsible for developing and implementing program strategies, plans, goals and objectives for HAITC; and managing staff and building relationships with other ASU/school entities in support of the college’s vision. Expertise in tourism, hotel management, parks and recreation management, public affairs or a closely related area is desired. The position is located in Phoenix, Arizona and will require a minimum of two trips to per year to teach and meet with faculty, staff and administrators, and students (approximately 10% of position is travel).

Currently offering three dual degree programs, the college began in Fall 2017 and now hosts over 1,040 students. Courses are taught by both HNU and ASU faculty. Job Responsibilities In collaboration with the HAITC and ASU Deans and Vice Deans, this position develops, plans and implements strategies to maintain and continually improve the quality efforts of ASU-HNU collaboration; promotes the college’s visibility and educational offerings; serves as a liaison for academic programs between ASU and HNU; serves as an expert and resource to the Deans and Vice Deans with regards to the ASU-HNU collaboration; counsels and confers with faculty within HAITC’s programs of study; provides program procedures, policies, goals and objectives, technical guidance and problem resolution; oversees and enforces ASU and college policies and procedures; oversees HAITC operations such as budgeting and financial reporting, course assignments and scheduling, and student services; manages the teaching portion of all ASU- HAITC faculty; and provides leadership, supervises, mentors, and evaluates assigned ASU Phoenix staff.

As a faculty member, the successful candidate will be expected to teach two one-credit introductory classes in a hybrid format (in-class and on-line) at the undergraduate level for HAITC first-year students. Additionally, the candidate will teach one three-credit course, at the graduate or undergraduate level, for Phoenix based students. Excellent in-class instruction delivery is expected. Other course assignments will be determined in conjunction with the school director and the dean. The faculty member will also participate in service activities for the college, profession and community. The appointment will begin with a one-week orientation at ASU in mid-August 2021.

Required Qualifications  Earned doctorate degree in tourism/recreation management, hospitality, leisure studies, geography, business, public administration or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment  Meet the academic requirements for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure  At least two years of university administrative experience  Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills  Undergraduate teaching experience  Demonstrated ability to work with culturally-diverse populations

Desired Qualifications  Demonstrated experience working internationally  Knowledge of the recreation, tourism and hospitality industries or the field of public administration/policy  Formal or information experience mentoring junior faculty  Administrative skills including budgeting, course scheduling, and curriculum management  Graduate level teaching experience  Ability to verbally communicate in Mandarin is desirable but not required
