A Note from the Director & Choreographer The SpongeBob musical presents such an amazing creative challenge of taking the beloved world of Bikini Bottom off of the screen into your living room and bringing it to life on the stage in musical form. The production’s collaborative team of creators have provided us with a unique opportunity to share this beautiful and heartfelt story through the lens of our favorite, silly undersea creatures. This small but mighty cast has so beautifully risen to the challenge of putting together a full scale production in just three weeks, and we would not be more thankful for their hard work and dedication. To the production team, Vahn Phollurxa and Tiffany Murphy, thank you for going above and beyond to create the most incredible production experience possible. To our founders - Shane & Erica Peterman and Kellie Carroll, thank you for creating such a special place for young artists to learn and grow. To our students and families, thank you for trusting us and joining us in this endeavor. And to my family and wonderful husband, thank you for entertaining all of my strange requests and always going above and beyond to ensure the success of our production! And to my sweet sister-in-law, congratulations on your last Acting Studio Production! Sharing this with you over the past 4 years has been the greatest blessing, and I am so excited to see you shine through your college experience. - Hannah I am so excited to be a part of this amazing team putting on The Spongebob Musical. This wonderful cast of performers have taken up the challenge of putting on a show that is both vocally and physically demanding. This show is a very fun and high energy show. The fact it is based on a Nickelodeon cartoon makes all the more fun and challenging for this cast of students. Spongebob Musical is created by a multitude of artists including; John Legend, Panic! at the Disco, Plain White T’s, David Bowie, and many more. Each artist contributed to at least one song in the show so it allows the cast to have a chance to try different styles of music. This show follows Spongebob on his journey to save the town and find out who is other than just a “Simple Sponge”. I would like to thank the entire production team of this show for granting me this opportunity once again to choreograph an Acting Studio Rockwall Show. I wish this wonderful, loving, beautiful and oh so energetic cast and family a wonderful show. I hope you are ready to see the show about the “Best Day Ever”. - Tiffany Citizens of Bikini Bottom M" "CsLhAots Adalyn Arrington Ashtyn Samantha Arrington Brizendine Kimmie Averleigh Baylor Corcoran Fisher Ford Carly Emily Fox Ford Maelie Heindel Citizens of Bikini Bottom M" "CsLhAots Riley Hunt Elise Mallory King King Jessie Molly Terra Prince Snowden Tougaw Britany Luke Webb Whitley Britt Witherspoon Bikini Bottom Day ( SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, Karen, Company) Bikini Bottom Day (Reprise 1) (SpongeBob) No Control (Perch, SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, Pearl, Squidward, Patrick, Sandy, Company) BFF (SpongeBob, Patrick) When the Going Gets Tough (Plankton, Karen, SpongeBob, Company) Just a Simple Sponge (SpongeBob, Company) Daddy Knows Best (Mr. Krabs, Pearl, Company) Hero Is My Middle Name (SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy) Super Sea Star Savior (Patrick, Sardines) Tomorrow Is (Sandy, SpongeBob, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, Karen, Company) Bikini Bottom Day (Reprise 2) (SpongeBob) Bikini Bottom Boogie (Electric Skates) Chop to the Top (Sandy, SpongeBob) (I Guess I) Miss You ( Patrick, SpongeBob) I’m Not a Loser (Squidward, Company) Just a Simple Sponge (Reprise) (SpongeBob) Best Day Ever (SpongeBob, Company) Bikini Bottom Day (Finale) (SpongeBob, Company) SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song (Company) Samantha Brizendine (Larry Baylor Ford (Squidward Q. the Lobster, Sardine) is going Tentacles) is going into her into 5th grade at Nebbie junior year at Liberty University Elementary School. An intertidal pool is an ocean habitat where millions of sea creatures live. Bob the Sponge's world was created by Stephen Hillenburg. Stephen Hillenburg Steven Hillenburg was born on August 21, 1961 and died on November 26, 2018. He was an American animator, voice actor, and marine science educator. He is best remembered for creating the Nickelodeon animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants which he also directed, produced, and wrote. It has become the fifth-longest-running American animated series. Steven was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and raised in Anaheim, California, Hillenburg became fascinated with the ocean as a child and developed an interest in art. He started his professional career in 1984, instructing marine biology, at the Orange County Marine Institute, where he wrote The Intertidal Zone, an informative comic book about tide-pool animals, which he used to educate his students. In 1989, two years after leaving teaching, Hillenburg enrolled at the California Institute of the Arts to pursue a career in animation. He was later offered a job on the Nickelodeon animated television series Rocko's Modern Life (1993–1996) after his success with The Green Beret and Wormholes (both 1992), short films that he made while studying animation. In 1994, Hillenburg began developing The Intertidal Zone characters and concepts for what became SpongeBob SquarePants. The show has aired continuously since its premiere in 1999. He also directed The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), which he originally intended to be the series finale. However, Nickelodeon wanted to produce more episodes, so Hillenburg resigned as the showrunner. He went back to making short films, with Hollywood Blvd., USA (2013). In 2015, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was released; the second film adaptation of the series, it marked Hillenburg's return to the franchise, wherein he co-wrote the story and acted as an executive producer on the project.

They began working in the early 1900s, at the same time as Walt Disney, but while Disney went on to become a household name, the Fleischers are barely remembered. • Lesson Plan: Character
Lesson Plan: Character Overview: Students will design an original villain character and complete a model sheet and backstory for their character. “I AM” Poem: Writing & Voice Recording Character Sketch: Artmaking Villain Origin Story: Writing Vocabulary: Character Emotion Hero Exaggerate Silhouette Point of view Expression Villain Proportion Color Scheme Voice Symmetry Asymmetry Modulation Essential Questions: • How does a character’s design reflect his or her personality and traits? • How can a character express emotion? • How does a character’s backstory impact his or her actions? Videos from Paramount Professionals: • Character Designer: David Colman • Character Modeler: Paulette Emerson • Casting Director: Monika Mikkelsen Introduction: Many colorful characters populate Bikini Bottom, each with a unique personality and point of view. SpongeBob Squarepants and his friends have been loved by fans for 20 years. Great characters make a big impression because artists thoughtfully design the way they look to evoke emotions in the viewer. Now it’s your turn to join the action by creating your own villain character to join SpongeBob’s story! Lesson 1: Video: Trailer for SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge On The Run Discussion Question: How does a character’s design reflect his or her personality and traits? Character Design Instruction: How will your design reflect the villain’s personality? Are they soft and round like goofy Patrick? Or lean and grumpy like wiry Squidward? Plankton’s big red eye is bizarre and his heavy eyebrow makes him look devious. You can exaggerate certain features to create an expressive and engaging character. A character’s design can reflect where they come from, for example Sandy Cheeks has to wear a helmet because she’s from the surface and can’t breathe underwater.

  • Spongebob Squarepants and Contemporary Constructions of the American Dream
American International Journal of Contemporary Research Vol. 3 No. 11; November 2013 Of Theory and Praxis: SpongeBob SquarePants and Contemporary Constructions of the American Dream Britni A. Tarr Timothy J. Brown Department of Communication Studies Main Hall 512 West Chester University West Chester, PA 19382 Abstract While SpongeBob SquarePants on the surface might appear to project a counter-cultural, rejection of tradition and authority figures, on the contrary, the text projects many elements that support the American cultural ideal of the American Dream. Thus, in our analysis of the television show, SpongeBob SquarePants, we set aside a strictly entertaining form of popular culture to demonstrate the show’s ability to equip both children and adults for contemporary society. In this essay, we describe and analyze four episodes of the SpongeBobSquarePants television series to determine the recurring elements that reinforce a traditional American ideology. More specifically, generic criticism will be used as a framework to identify and explain how an “American Dream” ideology is perpetuated in SpongeBob SquarePants in order to teach, instruct, and guide behavior while appealing to two different audiences: children and adults. Keywords: SpongeBob, ideology, generic criticism, text, the American Dream 1. Reinventing and Perpetuating Ideologies through Media Constructs The ideas, attitudes, memes, and images of popular culture have woven into every aspect of life – perpetuating certain ideologies for a variety of audiences. These ideologies that are conveyed, however, are not apolitical. As Hall (1995) discussed long ago, a primary function of media is the “production and transformation” of ideologies. Thus, as we consume various texts, we should be mindful of the underlying ideas and viewpoints that are contained in them.
