For the past twenty-six years I have invested myself into law enforcement and service to my community through the office of sheriff. I began my career as a deputy sheriff and have worked my way up the ladder to be elected Sheriff of Schenectady County in 1988. Being a bit of an academic, I began to look into the origins of the office. The problem was that there were no readily available books about the office of sheriff. I found books about police chiefs, police officers, state police officers, police detectives, narcotics police officers, and even police dogs.
