Paperdoll Review Magazine Index

By Tamara Gerard and Martha Raively

This Index covers the issues of Paperdoll Review (PDR) from its first issue in 1992 to issue #80 in 2021. Starting with issue #79, the magazine merged with OPDAG’s Paper Doll Studio Magazine, adding an artist theme, represented by theme-related articles and paper dolls, and occasional artist features. Most back issues are sold out. Visit paperdollreview.com for back issues currently available for purchase.

Some things you should know:

The first 8 issues of Paperdoll Review were identified on their front covers by Season and Year, and some of them had a volume number. None of them had an issue number. Issues #9 - 21 all had an issue number as well as a volume number, and/or a season, and/or a year.

By issue #22 each Review was identified on its cover by year and issue number only.

In this index, for items in the first 8 unnumbered issues, we will use the number that would have been on the issue had numbers been assigned to them.

As a result, you may need to refer to this listing:

An issue is now labeled referred to this: as this:

Winter 1992 1 Spring 1993 2 Summer 1993 3 Fall 1993 4 Winter 1993 5 Spring 1994 6 Summer 1994 7 Fall 1994 8

This index is divided into four sections.

SECTION I: FEATURED ARTICLES SECTION II: COLUMNS SECTION III: FRONT COVER ARTISTS SECTION IV: PAPER DOLLS (full color pages including back covers) SECTION V: ARTIST THEME & DRESS-A-DOLL (begins with #79)

These sections are further divided when and as needed to aid in location of material.

1 SECTION I : FEATURED ARTICLES

All featured articles published in Paperdoll Review are listed in this Section, bulleted under subject headings shown in large, bold blue letters. An article that heavily features information on several of these blue lettered topics will be listed under each relevant heading. (For example: Wedding Story by Marilyn in Issue #75 is listed in full under Advertising Paper Dolls and also under Weddings.)

In addition, extra headings in smaller bold black letters have been added to further aid in tracking down an article, especially those placed under Miscellaneous Articles. In these cases, only the issue number is shown.

For each article, there are a number of plausible titles that could be used (from the Table of Contents and from the article itself). The title selected is the one that most succinctly identifies the content.

SECTION II: COLUMNS

Artists’ Notes – 79-80 Begun in Issue #79 with the merger of Paperdoll Review and OPDAG’s Paper Doll Studio, this column features artist members talking about the paper dolls and fashions they created for the issue.

Between the Covers Any published set shown in full in an issue is listed below alphabetically by its title. In the issue, these sets are usually, but not always, identified as Between the Covers. Often the set accompanies or is relevant to a full article in that issue. Between the Covers began with issue #3. At that time, the Table of Contents listed it as a Feature, but by issue #16 it became a Column. On rare occasions it is not listed at all in the Table of Contents, so if it’s listed here but you don’t see it in the Contents, look for it anyway in the issue identified. • Alphabetical by title of paper doll set followed by Artist if known, Publisher, ID#, and copyright. • All sets are in black & write unless “in full color” is noted. • ABC • Ann Blyth (Merrill #2550, 1952) – 55 • Ann Sothern (Saalfield #2438, 1943) in full color – 37

SECTION IV : PAPER DOLLS

Every issue of Paperdoll Review contains at least one full-color, full-page set of paper dolls illustrated by a contemporary paper doll artist, most created specifically for the issue. Most appear on the back cover, sometimes the front cover, and often have additional outfits on an inside page. Occasionally, a full-page paper doll will appear inside to accompany a feature article. • Alphabetical by artist, followed by title, a notation regarding where it is located in the magazine, and the issue number. • “Back” and “Front” refer to the Covers. Any black & white sets are noted. Otherwise, they are in color. • See also Play Pages for additional full-page paper doll sets. • A B C D E F G • Inger Anderson – “1991 Fashion Styles” (Back & Play Page 35) – 60 • Marianne Anderson – Lorelei (Back & B&W Play Page 3) – 23 • Peck Aubry – old fashioned doll with 4 outfits (Front & Back) – 30 • John Axe – Judy Bolton, Peter Dobbs & Roberta Dunn (Front & Back) – 37 • John Axe – Lindy 1927 (Charles Lindbergh) (Back) – 13 • Alexandra Barton – Annabelle the Cowgirl (Loose Insert) – 15
