From the Principal

Working with the community & businesses Last Friday morning, we hosted a Beacon Foundation Busi- ness Breakfast for local businesses to celebrate the year’s achievements as well as extending our partnership with new businesses. Secondary students have been very fortunate to have worked closely with Mandy Rossetto, Manager of the Beacon Foundation and a number of businesses. They have gained valuable work related skills and attended lead- ership courses, speed careering, mock interviews, high im- pact programs, and industry visits. It was great to hear from the students who have achieved so much from these experi- ences and Saiyuri, Jordan and Ian did a great job, together Term 4 is flying by and it is a time of celebration of 2016 with the Year 12 Food and Hospitality class. On Fridays we went with Craig onto the oval and we learnt some football skills. By Adam W. Year 2. Marking. There are three ways to mark the ball. 1. you have to make a W shape with your hands. 2. Put your hands on your chest and get the ball. 3. You get the ball from your back. Kicking. You have to kick the ball straight with your toe pointing to your teammates. Handball. You hold the ball with one hand and punch it with the other hand. Playing a game. In a game there are 2 teams of 11 in each team. The aim of a game of football is to try and get the ball in the goal. If you kick it through the middle posts, you can have 6 points and if you kick it through the outer posts it’s only 1 point. Try not to let the other team get 6 points!

By Alan H.S. Year 3.

Every Fridays, we go to footy clinics. Our coach is called Craig. I really enjoy football and it’s really fun. The skills we learn are handballing and we use that skill to pass it to one of our teammates if they are close. How you handball? You hold the ball and fist it to your teammate. The next skills that we learnt were the 3 different marks. The first mark is the chest mark and the chest mark works like this. You catch it with your elbows facing down to the floor and you hug the ball to your chest. The second mark is called the head mark. You catch it with your hands above your head and your hands are in a W shape. The third mark is the specky. The specky is when you catch the ball with your hands behind your back. It is tricky! The third skill is kicking. When you kick you hold the ball facing out and kick the chin of the ball. It’s simple when you get the hang of it. We also learnt how to play a football game. We had a Red team and a Blue team. We played two games. I was in the Red team twice. When we first played a game the Red team won which meant my team won but the second time it was the Blue team that won. I did get upset at first, but I got over it. There were goalies too. They were had to defend the ball. So that was all the skills we learnt. We did it all on the oval and I really enjoyed it.
