The VTMHA is excited to host the championships this year. - We are one of BC’s largest minor hockey associations with 1100 registered players and 70 teams participating in our programs. The Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Winter Sports Centre at UBC will be the competition venue. The Centre’s Thunderbird Arena was constructed for the 2010 Olympic games and opened in July 2008. The facility is one of Vancouver’s newest and most sophisticated multi use spectator venues. The Thunderbird Arena holds 7,500 spectators for hockey and provides modern facilities for both spectators and competitors. All games will be held on the Main Rink at the arena. We look forward to having you participate in a competitive and fun filled week of hockey. All teams are welcome at the Closing Ceremonies but it is understood that some teams may be travelling home by that time. The Coaches’ meeting on the evening of March 15 must be attended by at least one coach and one manager from each team. Banquet Information Date: Saturday March 15, 2014 5:30pm – Venue: River Rock Casino Resort 8811 River Rd, Richmond, BC V6X 3P8 Cost: Free for players, coaches and team manager $25 per person for parents, siblings and other guests. All other activities take place at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sport Centre, University of British Columbia (UBC) campus Opening Ceremonies Date: Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 7:30pm Venue: Main Ice, Rink “A” – Thunderbird rink Opening Ceremonies will include: Teams on Ice Display of Team Banners and Flags, everyone is encouraged to bring theirs Welcome and Introduction of team members Games Date: March 16 to 20, 2014 Venue: Main Ice, Rink A Admission: $5 per day or $15 for event pass and $20 for family event pass. Tournament passes to be paid for in advance by participating teams. Order form is attached. 4 Game Schedule First game of tournament: 16 March at 10:30am Final Game: 20 March at 8:00pm. Order forms and sizing charts will be sent to team managers. Raffle Table There will be raffle basket tables set up on the mezzanine at the arena. 50/50 draws will take place throughout the tournament. 50/50 tickets will be 1 for $2, 3 for $5, and 15 for $20. The winning tickets will be posted at the raffle table. Concession The concession is located on the mezzanine level at the arena. 5 Parking UBC: Parking fees are in effect in all areas of the UBC campus. Thunderbird Parade across from the rink: 8am-5pm = $7 and 5pm – 8am = $6 Parking meters in lot behind the rink: Parking meters beside the sport field: $4/hr., 2 hour maximum Parking along roads near the rink (yellow boxes): $4 for 2 hours, $6 all day Surface lots (B Lot behind the parade) approx. 5-10 min walk: $6 all day Along 16the near pacific Spirit Park: free (15 min walk from the rink): free http://www.parking.ubc.ca/visitor.html 6 6 Food Options near the Venue UBC will be in session during the Provincials.
