  • The Humber Metro
The Humber Metro The Humber Metro is a very futuristic concept, depending, as it does, on the existence of the Humber tunnel between Goxhill and the approach to Paragon station, proposed as part of HS10 in the ‘HS Eastern Routes and Service Plans’ article. As noted there, although the tunnel will be built to GC gauge, it is intended from the outset to be shared with Regional Metro traffic between Cleethorpes and Hull, which will at least initially be of UK loading gauge. The Humber Metro covers the area from Selby and Goole in the west to Cleethorpes and Withernsea in the east, and from Grimsby in the south to Bridlington in the north. The core section, built to GC-gauge, as all new infrastructure should be, runs in tunnel under the centre of Hull between Paragon (LL) and Cannon St. (former H&B) stations, with a connection to the Hornsea / Withernsea lines just before Wilmington, and another to the Beverley line at Cottingham. Other than that (and the Humber tunnel, of course,) it takes over the routes of existing and former, long closed, branches. The proposed metro services fall into two groups, either cross-river or west-east along the north bank. The services of the first group are: 2tph Cleethorpes – New Clee – Grimsby Docks – Grimsby Town – West Marsh – Great Coates – Healing – Stallingborough – Habrough – Ulceby – Thornton Abbey – Goxhill – Hull Paragon (LL) – George St. – Cannon St. – Beverley Rd. – Jack Kaye Walk – Cottingham – Beverley – Arram – Lockington – Hutton Cranswick – Great Driffield – Nafferton – Lowthorpe – Burton Agnes – Carnaby – Bridlington 2tph Cleethorpes – New Clee – Grimsby Docks – Grimsby Town – West Marsh – Great Coates – Healing – Stallingborough – Habrough – Ulceby – Thornton Abbey – Goxhill – Hull Paragon (LL) – George St.

  • Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment
North East Lincolnshire (FLOOD RISK REGULATIONS 2009) LLFA Preliminary Assessment Report June 2011 version 1.2 P RELIMINARY F LOOD R ISK A SSESSMENT ‐ N ORTH E AST L INCOLNSHIRE C OUNCIL 1 Executive Summary As a Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), the EC Floods Directive, through the Flood Risk Regulations (2009), requires North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) to prepare a Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA) by assessing the harmful consequences of past and potential future flooding, and to identify areas with significant flood risk. The PFRA and spreadsheets have been prepared by NELC to meet the requirements of the PFRA under Flood Risk Regulations. The PFRA Final Guidance (December 2010) issued by the Environment Agency has been used to ensure these requirements are met. The main purpose of a PFRA is to assess past and future floods with significant harmful consequences, and to identify the areas of most significant flood risk across Europe. The Environment Agency has responsibility for preparing the deliverables of the Flood Risk Regulations for flooding from Main Rivers and the Sea, whilst NELC (LLFA) has responsibility for flooding from surface runoff, ordinary watercourses and groundwater. The first stage of the PFRA is to assess past floods which have had significant harmful consequences for human health, economic activity or the environment, or could have harmful consequences if they were to occur now. Following the 2007 summer flood events, records were collected by NELC on flood locations (internal and external) with information on sources and consequences. Data was also obtained following consultation with neighbouring local authorities, two Internal Drainage Boards, the Environment Agency, Network Rail, Anglian Water and Humberside Fire and Rescue.

  • From Hedhelinge to Healing
From Heghelinge to Healing Healing Manor A Village History Edited by John Appleby From Hegh to Healing A Village History E d ite d b y John Appleby Introduction Healing is situated to the north of Grimsby between the Lincolnshire Wolds and the River Humber. The medieval core of the village, the church and the Manor House, are situated on a mound now surrounded by fields and apparently isolated from the twentieth century settlement some 800 metres to the south east. The population of the village, before this century, hovered around one hundred, and indeed during this period may well have declined from its Domesday Estimate of 126 people. It was sometimes omitted from the 18th and 19th century maps of Lincolnshire. The various springs which emanate from the edge of the above mentioned clay mound afford the only item of interest for most descriptions of the village. “Healing Wells” are associated with folklore and, some have written, with the place name of the village. Today, most county guide books, and indeed local estate agents, would describe the village of Healing, as a dormitory village, housing a transient population, the majority of whom are employed in Grimsby or by the factories situated on the Humber Bank. It was therefore with some trepidation that a group of inhabitants of Healing undertook the task of writing a village history. Local historians warned that a closed village such as Healing may not be well documented, and that we should be prepared for disappointments. Thus forewarned “The History of Healing” group was formed in January 1989 at the home of Dr.
