www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Determine neighboring region spatial efect on dengue cases using ensemble ARIMA models Loshini Thiruchelvam1, Sarat Chandra Dass2, Vijanth Sagayan Asirvadam3*, Hanita Daud4 & Balvinder Singh Gill5 The state of Selangor, in Malaysia consist of urban and peri-urban centres with good transportation system, and suitable temperature levels with high precipitations and humidity which make the state ideal for high number of dengue cases, annually. This study investigates if districts within the Selangor state do infuence each other in determining pattern of dengue cases. Study compares two diferent models; the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Ensemble ARIMA models, using the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) measurement to gauge their performance tools. ARIMA model is developed using the epidemiological data of dengue cases, whereas ensemble ARIMA incorporates the neighbouring regions’ dengue models as the exogenous variable (X), into traditional ARIMA model. Ensemble ARIMA models have better model ft compared to the basic ARIMA models by incorporating neighbuoring efects of seven districts which made of state of Selangor. The AIC and BIC values of ensemble ARIMA models to be smaller compared to traditional ARIMA counterpart models. Thus, study concludes that pattern of dengue cases for a district is subject to spatial efects of its neighbouring districts and number of dengue cases in the surrounding areas. Dengue is a vector-borne disease, transmitted by two types of mosquito vectors; the Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albopictus, where the life-cycle of the vector and transmission of the disease are closely related to climate variables1. Dengue is endemic in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, and this includes Malaysia, spe- cifcally the state of Selangor2. -

Omar Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying, Universiti Teknologi MARA 40450 Shah Alam, Malaysia Nazrul Hisham bin Osman City Council of Shah Alam 40000 Malaysia Abstract Malaysia has been undergoing rather rapid urbanisation since the beginning of the 20th century. The level of urbanisation increased from 55.1 per cent in 1995 to 61.8 per cent in 2000, 63 per cent in 2005 and is expected to increase to 63.8 by 2010. The total population of Malaysia was 26.75 million in 2005 and is expected to increase to 28.96 million by 2010. This increase leads to more solid waste. The Klang Valley is the most urbanised region with 45 per cent of Malaysian urban centres being located here. The city of Shah Alam is one of the major centres in the Klang Valley and is a developing new town. Solid waste management is a major problem in the city of Shah Alam and new strategies are needed which aim at involving all citizens and achieving a sustainable environment. The City Council of Shah Alam requires waste compositional information at the local level to plan, implement and monitor waste management schemes that will enable them to meet their contribution to the national targets. This paper will discuss the current situation in the city of Shah Alam and the National Strategic Plan for Solid Waste Management. [email protected]* Abstract – 90 green technology development and green building, which is part of the green neighbourhood in urban living. The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) was established in accordance with the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171) under Section 4. Previously it was called the Petaling District Council before being known now as the MPSJ. In the effort of bringing to international level, which is the main goal of its Strategic Plan 2012-2030, as well as being a responsible Local Authority, MPSJ realizes the need to spearhead a green neighnourhood initiative to create a better urban living for its residence. Consequently, the project MPSJ Green City 2030 and Subang Jaya Local Plan 2035 was initiated and it falls into a prefect fit with The MPSJ brand as The Vibrant City. With a window of about 20 years MPSJ has taken several crucial steps to carry out this initiative. 1.2 Issues and Problems The main sustainablity issues are in urban living is the lack of awareness about the importance of preserving the environment from stakeholders and communities. Such issues will be faced by every country in the world, including Malaysia's growing population with rapid urban development. Referring to the World Bank (2018), around the world, waste generation rates are rising. In year 2012, people in the world’s cities produce 1.3 billion tons of solid waste annually with an estimated 1.2 kilograms per day. -
