  • Falun Gong Film Making Company Buys New Hope Farms Equestrian Park
Falun Gong Film Making Company Buys New Hope Farms Equestrian Park Daniel Axelrod March 22, 2019 Crews film at the New Century Film site in March 2018 for "90 Days Counting Down," an unreleased movie currently in post-production HUGUENOT -- A fledgling Asian film studio and production company has grand plans to grow into a modern TV and moviemaking center at the former New Hope Farms Equestrian Park in Huguenot. The project, which could reach $10 million, calls for converting three large former Olympic equestrian training buildings and a guest house into 65,000 square feet of sound stages, offices, housing for film crews, one or more shops, and areas for wardrobe storage, set-building, film equipment and props, New Century Film's leaders said. The devotees of the Falun Gong Chinese spiritual practice, who run the company, also envision an outdoor Asian cultural events area, plus a Chinese restaurant, a farm and a Tang Dynasty-style garden. The size and pace of the project, much of which could be done over the next five years, depends on the Town of Deerpark Planning Board's approval and investor fundraising, the film studio and production company's leaders said. A planning board application is imminent. New Century Film has already come a long way since its 2017 founding, producing eight of its own short, low-budget independent films, and distributing its offerings via New Tang Dynasty Television, a New York City-based global TV network. So far, it's invested nearly $500,000 to convert its 517 Neversink Drive property's guest house into offices, while fixing a horse ring's roof, aided by a $100,000 state grant.

  • Composition of the Tuidang Movement
Tradition and Dissent in China: The Tuidang Movement and its Challenge to the Communist Party By Caylan Ford BA (Hon.) in History, 2008, University of Calgary A thesis submitted to The faculty of The Elliott School of International Affairs of The George Washington University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a degree of Master of Arts May 15 2011 Thesis directed by Bruce J. Dickson Professor of Political Science and International Affairs © Copyright 2011 by Caylan Ford All rights reserved ii Abstract Tradition and Dissent in China: The Tuidang Movement and its Challenge to the Communist Party In the fall of 2004, a series of editorials appeared in a Chinese dissident newspaper run by Falun Gong adherents in the United States. The editorials served as the catalyst for what may be the largest dissident movement in China in over two decades. The movement, known as Tuidang (“withdraw from the party”), has seen as many as tens of millions of Chinese citizens publicly denounce the Communist Party. Unlike the student movement of 1989 or the more recent Charter 08—both of which embraced the language of western democracy—the Tuidang movement employs distinctly Chinese language and meaning that is more Confucian than humanist. The movement calls to revive traditional moral virtues and to cast off the ‘foreign’ ideology of Communism, which is portrayed as antithetical to true Chinese values, human nature, and universal laws. The Tuidang movement offers an alternative ideology that is at once compelling and accessible, and levels a potent challenge to the Communist Party’s claim over Chinese nationalism.

Falun Dafa Association of Australia Inc Zhen Shan Ren Truthfulness Compassion Forbearance URGENT 17 July 2020 David Anderson Managing Director, ABC Dear Mr Anderson, Expression of Grave Concern by the Falun Gong Community about the ABC’s Forthcoming Reports We are writing to express grave concerns about the forthcoming ‘DARK KARMA’ documentary and related programming by the ABC. Based on current promotional materials, we believe it severely misrepresents the beliefs and practices of Falun Gong, breaches the ABC’s own Code of Practice and editorial guidelines, and is likely to have an extremely harmful impact on the Falun Gong community in Australia, many members of which are traumatised refugees fleeing religious persecution. Though we have not yet had the opportunity to see the documentary – or even speak to its reporters and producers until very recently, as explained below – the media release announcing the documentary suggests that it is highly misrepresentative and unfair in its descriptions of our faith system. As currently promoted, the program may breach ABC policies on hate speech and trauma by inciting undeserved hatred, stigmatisation, and hostility toward members of an already marginalised, vulnerable religious minority. This exacerbates harm and distress to survivors, their friends, and families. The report also appears to violate the ABC’s own Code of Practice regarding accuracy, balance, impartiality, fair treatment, open-mindedness, the avoidance of misleading information, sensitivity to foreign cultural practices, and harm mitigation. We are further concerned that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will use it in their ongoing propaganda efforts against Falun Gong in both China and Australia.

  • 23 October 2020 ABC Response to Submission Made to the Senate
23 October 2020 ABC response to submission made to the Senate Committee Inquiry into Australia’s Foreign Relations Introduction The ABC was informed by the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee on 16 October that a submission had been made to its current Inquiry into Australia’s Foreign Relations1 by an ABC staff member which makes some adverse reflections on the ABC. The staff member’s submission makes claims about potential Chinese Communist Party influence on the ABC program “The Power of Falun Gong” and other claims about the relationship between the ABC and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). As the ABC had no prior knowledge of, or involvement in, the submission, the Committee afforded the ABC the opportunity of a right of reply to the specific claims made in this submission prior to its publication. This submission by the ABC has been prepared in response to several of the specific claims made in the staff member’s submission which the ABC considers are inaccurate, unfounded, and made without the provision of supporting evidence. ABC response to allegations it is “pro-Chinese” or under the influence of Chinese state agencies Any suggestion that the ABC Foreign Correspondent program, or the ABC more generally, has been subject to CCP influence is rejected. The ABC does more critical reporting on China and the CCP, day in and day out, than any other Australian media organisation – even when it creates difficulties, such as China Correspondent Bill Birtles being withdrawn from Beijing earlier this year, leaving the ABC without a correspondent on the ground for the first time in more than 40 years.
