To help prevent the rapid spread of fire within a building certain walls, floors and joints are given a fire resistance rating. This is 4.1 the period of time a building component maintains 2.1 the ability to confine a fire or continues to perform a 5.1 2.1 structural function, or both. 1.2 Firestopping Through penetrations and joints created during the construction process require the installation of Firestop in order to bring the wall or floor back up to its original fire rating. This binder aims to provide 1.1 the design and specification professional with the tools necessary to ensure that every penetration and joint at a fire rated wall or floor is adequately 4.1 protected by sealing, or firestopping, such that the fire rating of the building component is not impaired and compartmentation maintained. 6 www.hilti.com.au 1 July 05 The Hilti solution 1.1 1.2 1.2 3.2 2.2 2.3 3.6 2.5 3.5 3.1 5.4 3.3 2.4 5.3 2.6 4.1 3.4 2.1 5.2 5.1 2.1 1.2 3.4 1.1 4.1 1 July 05 www.hilti.com.au 7.
