L’ultima vittoria dell’Olimpia risale alla stagione 2008/09: finì 70-61 con 23 punti di Marco Mordente, 14 di Mason Rocca e 13 di David Hawkins. Real Madrid-Olimpia ha assegnato la Coppa dei Campioni nel 1967 a Madrid e la Coppa delle Coppe nel 1984 a Ostenda: in ambedue le circostanze ha vinto il Real. 14 volte questa gara si è giocata a Madrid e il bilancio è 13-1 per gli spagnoli. L’unica vittoria milanese a Madrid risale all’Uleb Cup 2003/04. Finì 62-61 (11 Lonnie Cooper e Claudio Coldebella; Antonis Fotsis ne fece 19 per il Real che poi perse la finale contro l’Hapoel Gerusalemme). L’Olimpia era guidata da Attilio Caja. 12 volte si è giocato a Milano (8-4 Olimpia). Una volta in campo neutro (Ostenda, appunto, 0-1). Nella partita di andata ci sono stati 20 punti, 28 di valutazione e 4 stoppate di Arturas Gudaitis. In quella gara ha anche stabilito il record di società per il maggior numero di canestri da due punti senza errori con 9. I PRECEDENTI: L’EROICO NANE VIANELLO Il Real Madrid ha vinto la sua prima Coppa dei Campioni nel 1964 battendo in finale lo Spartak Brno dopo aver perso la finale in due anni consecutivi. In quegli anni vinse il titolo quattro volte in cinque anni, unica eccezione il 1966 quando ad affermarsi fu proprio l’Olimpia (che il Real aveva eliminato in semifinale proprio nel 1964). Il Real venne eliminato nei quarti di finale dall’Olimpia: a Madrid Emiliano Rodriguez segnò 20 punti e il Real s’impose 71-66, ma nel retour-match del Palalido il Simmenthal giocò una partita prodigiosa, vinse 93-76 con 40 punti di Nane Vianello e 27 di Bill Bradley. Così si qualificò per le Final Four dove sconfisse il CSKA Mosca e poi nella storica finale di Bologna dell’1 aprile 1966 lo Slavia Praga. La stagione successiva Real Madrid e Olimpia Milano si affrontarono di nuovo in finale, ma in gara unica a Madrid, il Real si riprese lo scettro 91-83 (29 Emiliano; Red Robbins segnò 32 punti in finale). I PRECEDENTI: LA BEFFA DI OSTENDA Real Madrid e Olimpia si sono trovate di fronte in due finali europee: la prima è stata la Coppa dei Campioni del 1967, la seconda è stata la Coppa delle Coppe del 1984. Il Real vinse anche quella 82-81 a Ostenda. L’Olimpia dovette giocarla con un solo americano perché a quei tempi in Europa non erano consentite le sostituzioni e dopo la “fuga” di Earl Cureton, il sostituto Antoine Carr non era utilizzabile se non in campionato. Il Real vinse con due tiri liberi allo scadere di Brian Jackson al termine di una partita discussa e rocambolesca. In quella gara Roberto Premier segnò 27 punti ma la sorpresa fu Marco Lamperti, prodotto del vivaio, che ne fece 21. Purtroppo non bastarono. REAL MADRID: LA STORIA La sezione basket del Real Madrid è stata fondata nel 1932 ma l’anno chiave è stato il 1952 quando arrivò Raimundo Saporta, personaggio leggendario del basket spagnolo ed europeo al quale in seguito è stata per qualche anno dedicata la seconda coppa europea. Il primo titolo spagnolo arrivò nel 1957, primo di tre, poi il Real compilò anche strisce di sette e dieci titoli in fila.
