766-1221, Woody@Wmphoenixopen.Com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 20, 2017 CONTACT: Ryan Woodcock (480) 766-1221, [email protected] OneRepublic TO HEADLINE COORS LIGHT BIRDS NEST FRIDAY LINEUP TICKETS FOR GENERAL PUBLIC ARE ON SALE NOW SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – GRAMMY-nominated American pop-rock quintet OneRepublic is the latest lineup addition to the Coors Light Birds Nest – the popular entertainment venue at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Presented by The Ak- Chin Indian Community. OneRepublic is making its first appearance at the Coors Light Birds Nest and will take the stage on Friday, Feb. 2. The evening is being presented by Hakkasan Nightclub, voted #1 nightclub in North America. “We are excited to see how our music lineup is shaping up and thrilled to announce that OneRepublic will be a part of our concert series this year,” said Coors Light Birds Nest Chairman Dodge Earnhardt. The Coors Light Birds Nest lineup is now nearly complete. Other artists scheduled to perform include Flo Rida and Kelley James on Wednesday, Jan. 31; and Florida Georgia Line and Chris Lane on Thursday, Feb. 1. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster (800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com) and at all Ticketmaster outlet locations. General admission tickets for OneRepublic start at $65, while VIP tickets are available starting at $300 and provide exclusive access to the Jameson VIP area where guests are treated to a complimentary catered dinner, complimentary drinks and access to a newly redesigned premium viewing area for the shows. The Coors Light Birds Nest is located directly across from the main Waste Management Phoenix Open tournament entrance at 82nd Street and Bell Road. The entertainment venue opens at 3:30 p.m. and closes at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Headline acts will take the main stage each evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The Coors Light Birds Nest is a 21-and-over venue. The 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open Presented by the Ak-Chin Indian Community will be held at TPC Scottsdale January 29 – February 4, 2018. “The People’s Open” is the best-attended golf tournament in the world and has gained legendary status for being the most unique stop on the PGA TOUR. The 2017 tournament broke four attendance records, including a PGA TOUR record 655,434 fans for the week. The 2018 edition will mark the 83rd playing of the event (one of the five oldest events on the PGA TOUR) and the ninth as the Waste Management Phoenix Open. ### ABOUT THE ARTISTS ONEREPUBLIC In 2007, OneRepublic, founded by lead singer Ryan Tedder and lead guitarist Zach Filkins, released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. Its lead single "Apologize" was notably remixed by Timbaland, becoming a huge international success, reaching #1 in sixteen countries, and subsequently earning the group a Grammy Award nomination. OneRepublic has produced four studio albums including their third studio album, Native, in which single Counting Stars has sold nearly 10 Million units, reaching #1 in 54 countries. Kopestonsky University of Tennessee, Knoxville ABSTRACT Students often struggle to interpret Latin poetry. To combat the confusion, teachers can turn to a modern parallel (pop music) to assist their students in understanding ancient verse. Pop music is very familiar to most students, and they already trans- late its meaning unconsciously. Building upon what students already know, teach- ers can reframe their approach to poetry in a way that is more effective. This essay shows how to present the concept of meter (dactylic hexameter and elegy) and scansion using contemporary pop music, considers the notion of the constructed persona utilizing a modern musician, Taylor Swift, and then addresses the pattern of the love affair in Latin poetry and Taylor Swift’s music. To illustrate this ap- proach to connecting ancient poetry with modern music, the lyrics and music video from one song, Taylor Swift’s Blank Space (2014), are analyzed and compared to poems by Catullus. Finally, this essay offers instructions on how to create an as- signment employing pop music as a tool to teach poetry — a comparative analysis between a modern song and Latin poetry in the original or in translation. Jednou ze zastávek bude i naše hlavní město, kde se aktuálně šestice z Colorada představí 6. listopadu 2020 po téměř šesti letech! OneRepublic fungují sice již od roku 2002, ale globálního úspěchu dosáhli až o pět let později, kdy vyšlo jejich debutové album Dreaming Out Loud. Zmiňované album nabídlo úspěšné singly Stop and Stare, All I Need, ale vše odstartoval hit Apologize, který skvělým způsobem zremixoval věhlasný producent Timbaland a otevřel tak OneRepublic dveře do všech (nejen) mainstreamových rádií. Svoji silnou pozici nováčka na hudební scéně OneRepublic potvrdili i druhou deskou Waking Up z roku 2009, která nabídla další řadu hitů včele se Secrets, All The Right Moves nebo Marchin On. Úspěch kapely OneRepublic tkví především ve velmi dobře napsaných a vyprodukovaných popových písních, za jejichž zrodem stojí primárně frontman kapely Ryan Tedder. Tento čtyřicetiletý multiinstrumentalista si fanoušky dokáže podmanit nejen svým charismatickým vzhledem, ale i nezaměnitelným hlasem, jež v mnoha případech vyvolává i husí kůži. Aktuálně je kapela z Colorado Springs považována za jednu z nejoblíbenějších pop-rockových kapel vůbec a každý její nový singl je další trefou do černého. K dnešnímu dni mají OneRepublic na svém kontě čtyři řadová alba a téměř tři desítky úspěšných singlů. Poslední položkou v jejich diskografii je album Oh My My, které vyšlo v říjnu roku 2016. Od té doby se soustředí výhradně na vydávání singlů, ale jak se zdá, na jaře tohoto roku se nakonec dočkáme další studiové desky, která by se dle slov frontmana měla jmenovat Human.
