Reading at home Library/Literacy work can still be happening at home. The recommended time for reading is at least 20 minutes per day. Below is a list of ways you can continue to read online if you do not have access to books at home Accelerated Reader Linked to this are instructions for Accelerated Reader, which you would normally have as part of your curriculum, to enable you to complete quizzes on the books you read. If you have books at home and you are waiting to quiz on them with Accelerated Reader, you can still do this from home. Log onto the CET Portal as normal and click on the Accelerated Reader tab. Log in in the same way you would do in your library lessons. Please see the linked guide to help you with this just in case you have forgotten what your login is, etc. A quick reminder of how to Login for quizzes on Accelerated Reader: The username is your first initial and surname and password is your initials. Once inside, she begins hatching a rebellion with other teens. Perfect read for ages 14 and up. What If It’s Us? Lots of laugh out Relationships / loud moments & pages of Breakups dissecting complicated relationships but in a very thoughtful and engaging way. Great read for ages 15+ Booked Kwame Real Life / Sports / Nick is a football star but Alexander Football / Poetry / can’t help but get into BAME trouble with bullies, girls and his parents. Told in verse, this is a powerful story about belonging and fighting for what you believe in. The Crossover Kwame Real Life / Sports / Josh and Jordan are 12 (The Crossover Alexander Basketball / year old twins who are #1) Poetry / BAME amazing on the basketball court. They learn some tough lessons about sports and life in this novel, great read for anyone who loves basketball and stories about friendship! It tells Poetry / Death in the story of Chuck Bell, who the Family / discovers a love of BAME basketball after getting into trouble with the police. What happened to the sixth is a mystery that will keep you guessing until the end! Recommended for Years 9 and up. Landscape with M.T. Anderson Sci-Fi / Satire / Aliens land, but it’s not what Invisible Hand Relationships you think. They give us all of their technology and advanced medicine, but it costs a lot of money. For the rich, it’s no problem, but for the poor who have just lost their job from alien automation, the world becomes a very dangerous place. Recommended for Years 10 and up! City of Saints & Natalie C. Real Life / Mystery Tina’s mother is a maid Thieves Anderson / Action / Thriller working in the city of Sangui. When she’s murdered, Tina has to team up with a misfit group of hackers, con artists and thieves in order to uncover the truth. Recommended for Years 9 and up Posted John David Real Life / Bullying When mobile phones are Anderson / LGBTQ banned from Branton Middle School, Frost and his friends start communicating via post-it notes. Then Rose comes to the school and disrupts Frost’s circle of friends to a point where they aren’t sure they can recover. Great story about friendship and bullies. The Girl Who Sophie Fantasy / When 12 year old Yank Speaks Bear Anderson Adventure / wakes up one morning with Animals bear (not bare!) legs, she embarks on an adventure to discover her secret. On the way she meets ferocious wolves, deadly dragons, ghosts and much more. A beautiful story to get lost in full of traditional folklore, not to be missed. The House With Sophie Russian folklore / Marinka’s house has Chicken Legs Anderson myths / folktales / chicken legs. Her and her magic / death in grandmother are guardians the family / of the dead, they usher them through from this world to the next and the house goes where the dead spirits roam. Marinka yearns for a real friend and in finding one she breaks sacred rules that put her and her loved ones in danger. Amazing read! The Middler Kirsty Dystopia / War / Thrilling story set in a world Applebaum Action / Adventure in which every eldest child is sent off to fight in something known as The Quiet War. On the boundary lie the Wanderers, those that Maggie’s townsfolk are told never to speak to. One day, Maggie breaks the rules and her world is never the same. Loved this MG dystopia story! Chase (Chase #1) Linwood Action / Adventure Chipper is a dog with Barclay / Animals a super-computer in his brain. Labelled as a troublemaker, he is destined to be destroyed by The Institute, the government organisation in charge of him. Chipper escapes and finds his way to 12 year old Jeff. They both find themselves on the run from the dangerous Institute in a desperate attempt to uncover their corrupt means. Wonder Woman: Leigh Bardugo Action / Adventure Princess Diana is Warbringer / Superheroes determined to prove herself to her warrior sisters. However, when a human finds a way to her mystical island, she has to put everything she knows at risk in order to save her.
