Despite the weather, March has been a very active month for us at the Greek American. ACTIVITY DEPARTMENT First of all, we thank the ladies of St. Haralambos Philoptochos, St. John the Baptist Philoptochos, the Achladokampos Society and a special group of friends for their wonderful ☻ ORTHODOX BOOKS Greek Coffee Hours and all their delicious treats. A special thank you to St. Demetrios ☻ MAKE-UP PRODUCTS FOR MORE INFORMATION Philoptochos, Chicago and our own Angeliki for the special treats of scrumptious loukoumades! ☻ MAKE-UP REMOVER CONTACT VASILIKI March activities also included decorating for St. Patrick’s Day, when everyone is a little Irish. ☻ NAIL POLISH LIFE ENRICHMENT DIRECTOR We had a delightful Saint Patrick’s Day party. The activity staff brought delicious homemade ☻ LOTION 847 -459-8700, EXT 1044 sweets and Near Beer was served to all. Residents and staff were dressed in green, while Celtic ☻ IPAD music entertained us throughout the day. ☻ CAMERA On 25th of March we celebrated Greek Independence Day and the Annunciation. We would like to thank Fr. Treantafeles for his prayers and his passionate and informative talk on our history. Blue and white were the colors of the day. Ladies from Saint Nectarios Philoptochos PALM SUNDAY MORNING treated us to a fabulous assortment of homemade sweets and Greek coffee. On the same day, children from Saint John’s Guardian Angel School entertained the facility with Greek songs and "Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord..." dance. Residents, children, guests and staff became one big group, singing patriotic songs and dancing to traditional songs. (Palm Sunday celebrates the glorious and brilliant feast of the En- trance of Jesus into Jerusalem. Since the rabbit is a pest in Australia, the Easter Bilby is available as an alternative. Easter eggs are a widely popular symbol of new life in Poland and other Slavic countries' folk traditions. A batik-like decorating process known as pisanka produces intricate, brilliantly-colored eggs. The celebrated House of Fabergé workshops created exquisite jeweled eggs for the Russian Imperial Court. The project asks how installation art can be the means for responding in Australia to the feeling encountered in moving between Poland and Australia. Critical inquiries into this question reveal the links between feeling and politics, and show how systems of knowledge shape human and mythical bodies as well as the borders between secular and sacred spaces. More specifically, the research asks how the established institutions of a place claim control over the borders between visible and invisible worlds, involving secular and sacred spheres, as well as between inner and outer territories. The project investigates how traditional Polish folk devotional practices and contemporary art practices, such as those of Ilya Kabakov, Marina Abramović, Louise Bourgeois, and Magdalena Abakanowicz, resist the politics of control over those boundaries.

The Paschal troparion or Christos anesti (Greek: Χριστὸς ἀνέστη) is the characteristic hymn for the celebration of Pascha (Easter) in the Eastern Orthodox Church and those Eastern Catholic Churches which follow the Byzantine Rite. Like most troparia it is a brief stanza often used as a refrain between the verses of a Psalm, but is also used on its own. Its authorship is unknown. It is nominally sung in Tone Five, but often is sung in special melodies not connected with the Octoechos. It is often chanted thrice (three times in succession). [edit] Usage The troparion is first sung during the Paschal Vigil at the end of the procession around the church which takes place at the beginning of Matins.
