The development and diffusion of computer reservation systems (CRS) and global distribution systems (GDS) is discussed extensively in order to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of business in the 2000s. Based on this evaluation, the influence of modern information and communication technology (ICT) on the airline distribution system environ- ment is discussed. -

Tracing Terrorists: The EU-Canada Agreement in PNR Matters CEPS Special Report/September 2008 Revised version 17.11.2008 Peter Hobbing Abstract Enhancing border security in support of the global ‘war against terrorism’ is very much in vogue these days, in particular as regards the control of air passengers. Seven years after 9/11, this trend is yet unbroken. While the build-up of defences occurs in most cases at the one-sided expense of civil liberties, the EU-Canada Agreement of 2005 is different: quite justly, it holds the reputation of a well-balanced instrument respecting the interests of citizens. Still, instead of serving as a model for future instruments, the Agreement rather runs the risk of being scrapped at the next possible occasion. A close look at the passenger name record (PNR) ‘mainstream’, as embodied by the EU-US branch of transatlantic relations with four Agreements rapidly succeeding between 2004 and 2008, reveals the opposite tendency away from data protection and towards an unconditional tightening of controls. This report undertakes to examine the doubtful benefits of such an approach by assessing the price to pay inter alia for ‘false positive’ mismatches and other collateral damages, while the actual achievement of a higher degree of public security remains very much in the dark, mostly owing to the impossibility of making all borders 100% secure. As a result, no critical reason emerges for taking leave of the good practices established by the EU-Canada instrument. Gracias al análisis de su origen (tecnológico, geo- político, aero-político, corporativo, de producto y en la infraestructura) y a su contextualización, hemos podido trazar la historia de la aviación comercial desde su origen en 1919 hasta nuestros días. This methodology has allowed us to write the history of the commercial aviation since its origin in 1919. -

(ACE) announced today that it has agreed to sell a 70% interest in its wholly owned maintenance, repair and overhaul subsidiary ACTS LP (ACTS) to a consortium consisting of Sageview Capital LLC, a private investment firm, and KKR Private Equity Investors, L.P. (Euronext Amsterdam: KPE), the publicly traded fund of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (“KKR”). ACE will retain a 30% equity interest in ACTS and Air Canada will remain its largest customer. The transaction implies an enterprise value of approximately $975 million for 100% of ACTS on a cash and debt free basis. “This transaction is an important step in ACE’s strategy of unlocking the value in all of our businesses,” said Robert Milton, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of ACE. “ACE’s retained 30% ownership of ACTS in partnership with Sageview and KKR is in line with our strategy of generating additional value for our shareholders by furthering the development of ACTS as a stand-alone, profitable entity. IBT requests the National Mediation Board (Board or NMB) to investigate whether Allegheny Airlines, Inc. (Allegheny) and Piedmont Airlines, Inc. (Piedmont or collectively with Allegheny as Carriers) operate as a single transportation system. The investigation establishes that Allegheny and Piedmont operate as a single transportation system for purposes of the craft or class of Fleet and Passenger Service Employees. PROCEDURAL BACKGROUND On February 13, 2004, IBT filed an application alleging a representation dispute involving the consolidated Fleet and Passenger Service Employees craft or class formed by the -528- 31 NMB No. 110 merger of Allegheny into Piedmont. IBT asserted that Allegheny and Piedmont constitute a single transportation system. The application was assigned NMB File No. CR-6842. The Board assigned Maria-Kate Dowling to investigate. On March 2, 2004, the Board requested that the Carriers provide information on whether Allegheny and Piedmont were operating as a single transportation system. The Carriers jointly responded on March 23, 2004. On March 26, 2004, CWA filed an application alleging a representation dispute involving the combined Allegheny/Piedmont Fleet and Passenger Service Employees craft or class. -

Over the more than 100 years since the first Ctake off, aviation has witnessed challenges and changes that have made it a critical component of mod- ern societies. Most importantly, air transport brings humans closer together, promoting peace and harmo- ny through connectivity and social exchange. A key role for Hermes Air Transport Organisation is to contribute to the development, progress and promo- tion of air transport at the global level. This would not be possible without knowing the history and evolu- tion of the industry. Once a luxury service, affordable to only a few, aviation has evolved to become accessible to billions of peo- ple. But how did this evolution occur? This book provides an updated timeline of the key moments of air transport. It is based on the first aviation history book Hermes published in 2014 in partnership with ICAO, ACI, CANSO & IATA. I would like to express my appreciation to Professor Martin Dresner, Chair of the Hermes Report Committee, for his important role in editing the contents of the book.
