  • Press Release Chic&Basic Mayerling Graphics
PRESS RELEASE CHIC&BASIC MAYERLING GRAPHICS The name chic&basic Mayerling is taken from a true story involving the Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria and the Baroness Mary Vetsera and their tragic death in the palace that carries this name. Anatole Litvak brought this historical event to the screen in the 1936 film Mayerling, a French historical drama film scripted by Marcel Achard, Joseph Kessel and Irma von Cube and based on the end of Claude Anet's novel Idol. The film was remade in English and in colour by MGM in 1968. Omar Sharif, Catherine Deneuve, James Mason and Ava Gardner starred in this remake. Everything that happened in Mayerling has been used as the thread to tell a story in the hotel. The images on the walls introduce the historical characters that were involved in this story (Archduke Rudolf of Austria, Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, Mary Vetsera, etc.) The clothing used by these people, the insignias, the red sash as well as other details are part of the Austrian Empire's culture from the late 19th century. The photograph displayed on the staircase located on the ground floor is a film still. In addition, the film Mayerling is screened in the hall for those who are not too familiar with the story. A "mayerling survival guide" will be presented in the near future, where in addition to including an explanation of how the hotel operates, we will tell the story of Mayerling so everyone can understand the origin of the images and vinyl graphics that decorate the hotel.

  • The Royal Ballet's Dark and Dangerous Mayerling Screened Live
Tuesday 11 September The Royal Ballet’s dark and dangerous Mayerling screened live to cinemas The thrilling ballet Mayerling will be broadcast live from the Royal Opera House in London’s world-famous Covent Garden to UK cinemas on Monday 15 October 2018. This haunting and emotional production reveals the glamour of the Austro-Hungarian court. The live screening will be followed by an encore screening on Sunday 21 October 2018. Steven McRae as Prince Rudolf. © ROH, 2017. Photographed by Alice Pennefather. Choreographer Kenneth MacMillan brings 19th-century Europe to life with this dark and dangerous portrayal. Based on the true story of Crown Prince Rudolf, the ballet reveals a country on the brink of collapse, impending war in Europe and a love affair between Rudolf and his mistress Baroness Mary Vetsera that ends in tragedy. Audiences are encouraged to feel something new through dramatically evocative scenes that challenge the conventions of classical ballet. Mayerling pushes the dancers with some of ballet’s most technical and emotional roles. The cast includes Crown Prince Rudolf danced by Principal Dancer Steven McRae, Mary Vetsera (Sarah Lamb), Countess Marie Larisch (Laura Morera), Colonel Middelton (Nehemiah Kish), Empress Elisabeth (Kristen McNally) Emperor Franz Joseph (Gary Avis), Princess Stephanie (Meaghan Grace Hinkis), Mitzi Casper (Mayara Magri) and Bratfisch (James Hay). The Royal Opera House cinema broadcasts offer audiences the best seat in the house with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and incredibly detailed close-ups of performers. Audiences are never far from a performance at the Royal Opera House with most UK viewers located within 30 miles of a cinema screening.
