A great organization is not about one or two people. It’s about the hundreds that make it possible to deliver services to our members and soon-to-be members across this province of ours. If you are a Coach or Instructor, you are the critical front-line person that introduces new sailors and athletes to our sport. You are true heroes as each of you, through your daily lesson plans and calming directions, show how sailing is a sport for everyone. Our Race Management Officials, Judges, Umpires, Mark Setters and special event volunteers make the day-to-day racing for our athletes fair, safe, and rewarding. Our clubs are supported by hundreds of volunteers serving their Clubs’ Governance with care and compassion. I can tell you first hand that serving as a Commodore, treasurer, board member or committee member of a club is both rewarding and challenging. We lead busy lives. Without individuals that are willing to volunteer their time to help make our clubs, special events, and regattas great, we truly would not be the sport that we are today. I would be remiss in not thanking the staff that works to support our members on an ongoing basis. Eric Cartlidge, Margaret Mummery, Kathy Chamoun, Murray McCullough and Krystal Smith (filling in for Shauna Cartlidge who is on maternity leave) have been nothing short of exceptional staff. At the same time, I would also like to offer my personal thanks to this year’s Board of Directors. The board has been very active this year, as always. They support the staff, our events, services, and governance with great conviction and support. In order to truly show what has happened in Ontario this past year, pictures are the best way possible. The next page outlines some the activities that have taken place over the year. In closing, if you have any questions, comments, or ideas, I am most happy to hear from you. You are the cornerstone of Ontario Sailing and the sport of Sailing in Canada. 4 PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT (cont’d) From Donna Scott, President and Glenn Lethbridge, Executive Director Access BOOM Ontario Sailing celebrated 40 years in 2010! We’ve had fantastic FUN while raising funds, have been honoured by the continued support of our previous donors – both individuals and corporate and thrilled to welcome a number of new sponsors to our sport. Ontario Sailing has been ranked as # 4 in all of the sports in Ontario – that’s INCREDIBLE and comes as a result of many factors including awareness and support in the community. Community outreach and business development/fundraising go hand in hand – the reason that people and businesses donate to Ontario Sailing is because they see the results of the efforts of Ontario Sailing, either from their own experience or through a group that they are a part of. There are too many initiatives that Ontario Sailing is a part of to list them all here but donor support is what allows Ontario Sailing to support and encourage events from grass roots to elite, from youth to masters all over the province and indeed around the world. Ontario Sailing is the key link for everything sailing in Ontario – from sailing charities, through the University Sailing Circuit to offshore racing – we are an amazing community of sailors. The strength of Ontario Sailing comes from the people involved, starting with the staff in the office, through all the coaches, athletes and volunteers – nothing would happen without their energy, enthusiasm and hard work, but the “grease” that keeps that engine going is money. As always, the Individual Donor Campaign has been strongly supported by our community. Thank you to all our continued supporters and those who have decided to support Ontario Sailing financially for the first time! Many of our newest supporters have been supporting one of our 2 endowment funds and a third fund is being finalized: The Hans Fogh Fund for high performance athletes The Alice Boston Fund for support of competitive sailing in the Sarnia area. The Sailing for Life Fund is in the final stages of completion and was created by the “Huntsville Sailing Club Legacy” which will support grass roots sailing including the Boom program. Fundraising events are also FUNraising events and the 8th Annual Celebration of Sailing - The Ruby Gala was a great success on both levels. This event was held at The Boulevard Club. We raised our highest amount to date at just over $40,000 and the 250 guests attending had a great night.

  • Old Pulteney Makes Waves in Amsterdam Airport's Innovative
For immediate release 24th January 2014 Old Pulteney Makes Waves in Amsterdam Airport’s Innovative New Shop Multi award-winning Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky has installed Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport’s first branded sampling bar to bring the ‘maritime malt’ to life amongst global travellers. The bespoke fixture will command an eye catching presence in a new innovative sampling space within its Lounge 1 for two months until the 28th February. Created to showcase Old Pulteney’s award-winning Lighthouse Collection of single malt travel retail exclusive expressions, the installation, created by Jordan Design Limited, celebrates the brand’s unique maritime roots and its exciting year-long partnership with the famous Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race. On the 1st September 2013, Old Pulteney entered the world’s longest ocean race for the first time by sponsoring one of the 12 ocean racing yachts competing in the 11 month round the world adventure. The 70-foot yacht, which is named ‘Old Pulteney’, is led by Dutch skipper Patrick Van Der Zijden, known as the ‘Flying Dutchman’. To celebrate this connection with The Netherlands, the freestanding airport display was designed to give customers the impression that they are looking out at a vast ocean from the deck of Old Pulteney. Decking floor graphics, yacht’s wheel and guard rails containing display bottles add to the illusion of a yacht helm, where the sampling activity takes place. Back projected movie footage from the Clipper 2013-14 Race and a series of stretch mirrors create a heaving, moving seascape that further enhances the maritime experience.

  • 'Maritime Malt' Whisky Teams up with Clipper Round the World Yacht
Old pulteney and clipper race serve up global partnership ‘Maritime Malt’ Whisky Teams up with Clipper Round the World Yacht Race First time Team Sponsor, the single malt Scotch whisky Old Pulteney, today announced its yacht entry in the Clipper 2013‐14 Round the World Yacht Race. The yacht, which is part of the newly designed Clipper 70 fleet will debut in the ninth edition of the world’s longest ocean race and will be called Old Pulteney. Old Pulteney's decision to sponsor a yacht in the Clipper Race is rooted in the whisky's strong maritime heritage and long standing involvement with sailing. Pulteney Distillery is one of the most northerly on the UK mainland ‐ and whisky connoisseurs even say they can detect a faint hint of the sea in the delicious malt thanks to its windswept location and close proximity to the North Sea. Known as the ‘Maritime Malt,’ Old Pulteney holds the coveted title of ‘World Whisky of the Year’ for 2012 in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible – one of the industry’s highest accolades. The whisky achieved top ten status in the UK single malt market in 2012 as well as being the fastest growing single malt in Travel Retail and now positioned number 20 in the category. The brand is flourishing in many other countries around the world. Clipper Race Founder and Chairman, Sir Robin Knox‐Johnston toasted the announcement today and remarked: “When I set sail for my historic circumnavigation back in 1968, on board were 12 bottles of whisky and homemade fruitcake.
