The Blue Mountains is one of Australia’s natural wonders. Stretching for over more than million hectares it is an inspiring mix of rainforest, canyons, tall forests and headlands, commencing less than 90 minutes from central Sydney. DAY ONE Meet your Destination NSW escort in hotel lobby and depart Sydney for the Blue Mountains. Enjoy a Traditional High Tea-style lunch at the famous Bygone Beautys and Treasured Teapot Museum, in Leura, home of the world’s largest private collection of teapots. Take your time to explore Leura’s quaint shops, galleries and cafes. Josephan’s Fine Chocolates is a highlight. Overnight: Fairmont Resort, Blue Mountains DAY TWO Travel to Jenolan Caves where you will enjoy a short walk around the famous Blue Lake before lunch at Jenolan Caves House. Regarded as Australia’s most outstanding cave system with 11 spectacular show caves, pure underground rivers and amazing formations, Jenolan Caves is among the finest and oldest cave systems in the world. Join the guided cave tour to The Lucas Cave, the most visited cave in the system which is home to the famous Broken Colum and the highest and widest chambers. Don’t miss a glimpse of the pure underground river. Travel to Govetts Leap Lookout near Blackheath to take in the spectacular views of the Grose Valley and its steep canyons.     Heritage Newsletter of the Blue Mountains Association of Cultural Heritage Organisations Inc November-December 2015 ISSUE 41 ISSN 2203-4366 The Hydro Majestic Hotel The iconic hotel was created by Mark Foy the Sydney businessman, sportsman and playboy, in 1904. The initial complex comprised three earlier buildings: The single storey country retreat of WH Hargraves, son of Edward Hargraves of gold discovery fame. This home had been built in two stages, a Victorian style cottage, followed by a two storey extension which became the Delmonte Hallway. Hargraves land also included 9km of bush walking tracks, available to the public. Foy leased the property in 1902 and purchased it in 1903. The existing hotel called the Belgravia, opened in 1891 by Mr & Mrs Ellis. Cottage owned by local solicitor Alfred Tucker. In 1904 Mark Foy created his hydropathic establishment, opening the facility on 4th July to attract American visitors, advertising cures for nervous, alimentary, respiratory and circulatory ailments, but did not include sufferers of infectious diseases and mental illness. 1 HERITAGE November-December 2015 He believed that the land contained mineral springs, although this was probably in error, as Foy was importing mineral water from Germany. The town was then known as Medlow, and Foy petitioned the NSW Government to change the name to Medlow Bath. Belgravia Hargraves House Tucker cottage Hydro Majestic 1904 - Casino A striking prefabricated casino was brought in from Chicago, and erected between Hargravia and Belgravia with the picture gallery joining the buildings together. The dome was built to Foy’s specifications and dismantled for shipping. Guests enjoyed the magnificent view over the Megalong Valley and a resident Swiss doctor, George Baur, attended to their ailments.

    Draft Plan of Management Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve BLANK Draft Plan of Management Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service October 2013 BLANK Acknowledgments This plan of management was prepared by staff of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), part of the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), Department of Premier and Cabinet. NPWS acknowledges that the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve is in the traditional country of the Gundungurra and Wiradjuri Aboriginal people and within the area of the Pejar Local Aboriginal Land Council. A preliminary draft plan of management for the reserve was prepared by Manidis Roberts Consultants on behalf of the Jenolan Caves Reserve Trust (the Trust) in 2004. The preliminary draft was expanded and updated by the Trust in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and a draft plan of management was exhibited for public comment in 2005/2006. Following public exhibition DEC formally considered public comments on the draft plan. OEH, established in 2011, now performs many of the statutory roles of the former DEC. Subsequently a range of documents have been produced of particular relevance to management of the reserve including the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area Strategic Plan (Department of Environment & Climate Change 2009a), the Jenolan Caves Reserve Trust Heritage Asset Management Strategy (Godden Mackay Logan 2007), the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve Fire Management Strategy (Department of Environment & Climate Change 2009b), the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve Draft Conservation Management Plan (Urbis 2010) and The Vertebrate Fauna of the Jenolan Karst Conservation Area (OEH 2012a). A range of guidelines and policies have also been prepared by the OEH Karst and Geodiversity Unit which was established in 2006 to assist karst management.
