Greetings Brethren,

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Welcome to the June Trestle Board.

I’m going to get right to the point in this month’s article. Now that we are on the backside of the pandemic our Lodge is back to business and we are as busy as ever. There is so much happening in June and July at Winter Park that your officers barely have time to think. It is warp speed and we’re all doing everything we can to keep things moving forward smoothly.

By the time you read this, your elected officers will be attending Grand Communication where we will be voting on the legislation that was put forth this year. If you missed our first stated meeting in May, then you missed a very informative meeting where your Bro. Senior Warden Billy Triplet, briefly went over all the legislation that is being voted on. If you missed this meeting and you are interested in learning more about Luke Leonard what is being put forth, there is information at the Lodge that you can request from the Secretary to look Worshipful Master over. I’m sure we will have an opportunity this month to discuss what passed and what was rejected. We look forward to filling you all in on what took place at our upcoming meetings.

At the first stated meeting in May, I had hoped to present the Mason of the Month award for April 2021 to Bro. Ricardo Parente. Sadly, Bro. Ricardo was unable to attend Lodge that evening, but I am going to present him the award at a later meeting. For those of you who may not know, Bro. Parente works on Winter Park’s website, keeping it updated with current information and content. He also does a lot of other IT type of work for our Lodge, and I think it is important to recognize him and thank him publicly, so thank you Bro. Parente.

A few important dates to keep in mind in the coming months are: St. Johns Day – June 26th – Winter Park Lodge The Grand Masters Official Visit – June 26th – Rosen Plaza Ball Room

My Brothers, I can’t stress enough the importance of making your best effort to attend St. Johns Day. The St. John’s Day players have been working incredibly hard to put together an entertaining program as well as a stellar skit that we believe would not only do W:. Bro Chris Chag proud but do justice to all the wonderful programs he put together in the past. This is a huge event, not only Winter Park but for our entire District and State. PLEASE put Saturday June 26th on your calendar. 8AM breakfast, servered by OES and 9AM program start. Please plan to come out and support the Craft and you Lodge. We truly hope to see you all there. Don’t make us come looking for you. Haha. No really.

Also, please remember the Chris Chag Memorial Second Harvest Food Drive. Bring with you a non-perishable food item to throw in the bin and you can help your Lodge reach the goal of raising $5000 for Second Harvest. Thank you in advance for your donations.

In closing, I truly hope I get to see you at one of our stated meetings or at a masonic outing this month. As always, I hope this year brings you all health and happiness. God Bless my Brothers, and God bless the United States of America.

My Brothers, The steward presided over the manorial court. He was not the judge, as the decisions were made by villagers acting as jurors. His role was to give weight to those decisions. The stewards of great lords were usually knights. Fast forward to present day and the stewards are still just as important to the junior Warden and the running of the lodge. Russell Anderson They are not facing dangers unless you consider the dangers of Junior Warden brother Mason's complaining about not having their special kind of creamer or that the napkins were too abrasive. Stewards are very important when preparing the meals for the craft. I have leaned heavily on there expertise and knowledge to make sure we apply the Brethren with the most nutritious and delicious meals possible. Being a steward is also one of the best ways to understand some of the work necessary to being a line officer at a . If you're interested in being an officer and possibly making it to the east reach out to one of your officers at your local Lodge and ask them what it takes to be considered for the position. Fraternally, Russell Anderson

Reminder: The 3rd Tuesday of every month, there will be Degree Practice at 7 PM at our Lodge. Please come out and join and learn some Ritual!

Greetings my Brothers,

I hope this article find you, your families and your friends well.

First I would like to talk briefly about Grand Communication. I would like to thank MW Turlington (Honorary Perpetual WP Member) for all he has done for our fraternity in the past year. I would also like to wish the best to all of the newly elected and appointed Grand Lodge Officers.

That being said, we all know St. Johns Day is right around the corner, and I need your help. We really need to promote this event and push the food drive. Jay Cebollero PM This is something that cannot be overstressed, the importance of this event Secretary relies strongly on the support of the craft. The next major task on the list will be sending out delinquent dues’ notices. This will be happening about the second week in June. As I mentioned before but have to mention again, the importance of having your accurate contact information such as address, email, and phone. This information is key to ensure the Lodge meets their obligation to keep you informed of important information.

If there anything I can do while serving as Secretary, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. In closing, thank you for all you have done, are doing, and will do for our fraternity.

Fraternally,

Jay Cebollero Winter Park Lodge Secretary Past Master Winter Park Lodge No. 239 - 2017 Past Master Memorial Lodge No.16 - 2018

Hello My Brothers All: I received a third bid for the pressure washing, sealing and painting of the outside of our building, and anticipate making a selection over the next week or so after we return from the annual Grand Lodge Communication.

It was nice to attend this annual event on the 31st of May through the 2nd of June. Since there was not a GL Communication in 2020 due to COVID, it was a pleasure to see so many brothers and catch up in the few minutes we enjoyed, before we were back to work. There were many dignitaries both domestic and international, the legislation from both last year (’20) and this year (’21) was presented, and the voting delegates made their selection for or against, with the outcome of each to be implemented as appropriate. Our guest speaker, Ill James Cole, 33° Grand Commander of the Ancient and Accepted of the Southern Jurisdiction shared a message on the point Chester A. King PDDGM within the circle, and reminded us all, that our Masonic Journey started with our hands Treasurer & Chairman of the on the Bible, and is the point in the circle that contains the secrets to help us all become Committee on Lodge Property the “best” Mason we can become! No doubt an overview and the outcome of this legislation will be shared in Lodge for those who did not attend. A great big Thank You to M\W\Tommy Turlington, the elected officers, and the many others who made the very non-traditional year of 2020 a success.

The Letter “E” (a little ditty to keep you thinking)

Someone has advanced the opinion the letter “E” is the most unfortunate character in the English alphabet, because it is always out of cash, forever in debt, never out of danger, in hell all the time, and has never been in Indiana, Ohio, or Masonry.

But we call his attention to the fact that the “E” has doubled up in and is never in war and always in peace. It is the beginning of existence, the commencement of ease and the end of trouble.

Without it there would be no meat, no life, no Heaven. It is in the center of honesty, makes love perfect and without it there would be no editors and no news.

Look forward to seeing you in Lodge, and until such time, be safe, be happy and love life, enjoying every minute that is given to you.

Until next month, be safe and love life!

Sincerely and Fraternaly,

Chester A. King, PDDGM Treasurer and Chairman of the Committee on Lodge Property https://www.msana.com

From the Desk of the Education Committee

A Woman Freemason

Elizabeth Aldworth was Irish, and the first woman recorded as having received the degrees of masonry. Not much is known about the specific dates of Aldworth's birth or death. A plaque placed near her burial location indicates she was born on April 16th, 1695, and passed away in 1775. However, the book Memoir of a Lady Freemason has her year of birth as 1693 and her passing as May 11th, 1773.

Aldworth was the daughter of Arthur St. Leger, 1st Viscount Doneraile, and 1st Baron Kilmayden of Doneraile Court, County Cork, Ireland. By most accounts it was before her marriage to Richard Aldworth in 1713 she became a mason.

The story of Aldworth receiving the degrees of masonry is an interesting one. There is some discrepancy though of when the incident actually occurred. According to the book Memoir of a Lady Freemason, the date of her initiation was in 1710 and 1712 before her marriage. Edward Conder in his paper Ars Quatuor Coronatorum written in 1895 places her initiation between the years of 1710 and 1718. In a reply to Conder's paper William James Hughan wrote the initiation took place after 1730. Although he referred to Aldworth as St. Leger, which implies it was before her marriage in 1713.

The lodge Aldworth was initiated into is sometimes listed as Lodge No. 44 in Doneraile, Cork, Ireland. Although Conder claimed in his paper the lodge was unknown. It is also claimed Aldworth never attended the lodge. In Memoir it was claimed Arundel Hill was present at her initiation and often sat in lodge with her.

Regardless of the timing of the event and who was present the story of how Aldworth was initiated remains, generally, the same. The story claims Aldworth (then St. Leger) had fallen asleep while reading in the family library. It was winter and the light was dim when she fell asleep. When she awoke, she heard voices coming from the next room. She rose to investigate, and due to construction in the library, there was a loose brick in the wall that she removed to peer into the next room.

When Aldworth realized the ceremonies’ solemnity in the next room, she decided to make her escape. As she was making her escape, she was caught by the lodge's Tyler, the outer guard stationed for open masonic lodges. When she realized she had been caught, she screamed and fainted. The Tyler, who was also the family butler, summoned the brothers from the other room, including Aldworth's father. In some accounts, a serious debate occurred as to what to do with this rather uncommon occurrence.

Eventually, it was decided to initiate Aldworth into the lodge, thus binding her to the fraternity to prevent her from revealing its secrets.

The International Mixed Order of Freemasonry , a global Masonic order which admits both men and women, named their first lodge after Aldworth.
