Issue 004 Real Steel ISSUE 004 REAL STEEL - NOISY BOY IN THIS SPECIAL DOUBLE-SIZED FOURTH ISSUE OF LOOKBOOK 3A, we take an extensive look at the fourth figure in our 1/6th scale Real Steel series - NOISY BOY. With each successive Real Steel release, 3A has pushed the boundaries for detail, articulation, paint application, electronics and engineering. NOISY BOY is the culmination of everything we’ve achieved with the previous Real Steel figure releases and embodies our most intricate and innovative features to date. NOISY BOY is a Japanese robot who fought Rubicon for the WRB belt in 2016. He had a WRB record of 15-1 (plus one loss to MIDAS as an illegal circuit fighter). His only WRB loss was to Rubicon in 2016 which was a close match up until the third round where Rubicon got lucky with an uppercut that knocked out NOISY BOY. His last fight was lost to MIDAS, at Crash Palace where Noisy lost his right arm and head. Noisy’s head was welded on the exit of Crash Palace. He has fought in Japan, London, and Brazil, and was created by Tak Mashido, the same bot designer who made ZEUS. Best known for creating toys, comic books, art books and apparel for Ashley’s key properties - World War Robot, Popbot and Adventure Kartel, 3A has extended its award-winning detail, paint application and articulation towards licensed properties such as: Valve’s Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Konami’s Metal Gear Solid franchise, 343’s Halo series, Marvel and more. A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, REAL STEELstars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, noholds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback. REAL STEEL is directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum franchise and Date Night). First-Run Smoking Presentations in U.S. Movies 1999-2006 Jonathan R. Polansky Stanton Glantz, PhD CENTER FOR TOBAccO CONTROL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94143 April 2007 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Smoking among American adults fell by half between 1950 and 2002, yet smoking on U.S. movie screens reached historic heights in 2002, topping levels observed a half century earlier.1 Tobacco’s comeback in movies has serious public health implications, because smoking on screen stimulates adolescents to start smoking,2,3 accounting for an estimated 52% of adolescent smoking initiation. Equally important, researchers have observed a dose-response relationship between teens’ exposure to on-screen smoking and smoking initiation: the greater teens’ exposure to smoking in movies, the more likely they are to start smoking. Conversely, if their exposure to smoking in movies were reduced, proportionately fewer teens would likely start smoking. To track smoking trends at the movies, previous analyses have studied the U.S. motion picture industry’s top-grossing films with the heaviest advertising support, deepest audience penetration, and highest box office earnings.4,5 This report is unique in examining the U.S. movie industry’s total output, and also in identifying smoking movies, tobacco incidents, and tobacco impressions with the companies that produced and/or distributed the films — and with their parent corporations, which claim responsibility for tobacco content choices. Examining Hollywood’s product line-up, before and after the public voted at the box office, sheds light on individual studios’ content decisions and industry-wide production patterns amenable to policy reform.

  • Milan Trenc.Indd
HTTP://VOICE.AIGA.ORG/ The Original Night at the Museum: An Interview with Milan Trenc Written by Steven Heller Published on January 23, 2007. Filed in Voice: Journal of Design in Off the cuff. Milan Trenc, a filmmaker and illustrator in Zagreb, Croatia, wrote and illustrated The Night at the Museum in 1993. Little did he imagine it would be made into a feature-length Hollywood film in 2006, starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney. Was it a dream come true? While in the midst of working on a children’s novel called Psychic Kid Detectives, and finishing two animated shorts, Elephant Goes to Kindergarten and Loneliness, Trenc paused long enough to discuss how a few of his pictures ended up on the silver screen. Heller: Your book The Night at the Museum (published in 1993) is the basis for the movie Night at the Museum starring Ben Stiller, which has done very nicely at the box office. How did your illustrated tale come about in the first place? Trenc: I was visiting the museum one afternoon, and when I came home, ideas just started coming. I thought, the exhibits look alive, so who says they are not? I have this “parallel worlds” thing that appears in all of my work. Usually it is about reality being an illusion; here, it is about the illusion being a reality. I started sketching and then just added a bit of a storyline. The museum guards are a fascination to me, uniformed and all, and yet still so harmless and a bit goofy.
