DTT: I think that is inspiring, because we tend to base our impression of excellence on who is win- ning in solo competition and most of them are teenagers. Seeing guys in their 20’s and 30’s doing what you do really represents what is great about clogging. So what is in the future for ALL THAT? Mike: We are under contract for the Carolina Opry through December, with a renewal option after that, so we hope to be here a good long while. The show is great and we feel at home here. We’ll see from there. We have been working on a show concept with Calvin that could be really exciting, so I think there are good things ahead. We’ve had offers to

The people who originally settled down along the coast of America brought dancing with them, and this dancing evolved into different styles throughout different regions,” Waite explained. “For example, this is how Canadian Step dancing got all the way up north yet closely resembles Irish Step dancing, and clogging/flatfooting emerged in the south.” The Hoorah Cloggers is a very fun group and is always looking for new members, students or non-students. “No experience is necessary to join our group. You just need an interest and some time to dedicate to learning,” Waite said. When asked how the group originated Waite responded, “Ironically, the Hoorahs are known as a ‘traditional’ clogging group. This is as opposed to modern clogging — the differ- ence being our costumes and style of dance.” The group began in 1975, and “many members who have graduated and moved away continue to come back and perform as guest performers whenever they can — that’s how much they love it!” Waite said. Currently, there are 15 to 20 active members and over 100 alumni. “We always perform to live music — that is a defining characteristic between traditional clogging and modern clogging actually. Modern cloggers typically perform a specific routine to a specific recorded song and without calls. Traditional clogging is danced to live old-time music, any routine can go to any song, and we have a caller in the group who calls out the moves. The band plays until the routine is finished,” Waite said. Myers, Kansas Clogger We have an Elvis Festival and Parade every year in Kansas City, MO, during the month of August. This year the festival was on August 12, 2005. The Miami County Cloggers from Paola, KS attend every year and have become one of the main acts of the festival for the last five years. This year William Hung, (the comincally bad singer from American Idol), was the Grand Marshal of the Parade. I am in back, teaching Mr. Hung to clog. Watching Rachel dance definitely motivates one to want to join her or, at least, get a clap or pat of the foot and, at times, even to come to the edge of their seat. She is vivacious and vigorous and expressive in her dancing as well as using all of her effort and expertise in executing her steps and style with perfect accurateness. She obviously displays an inspirational enthusiasm that takes in all of the intensity, eagerness, zeal and fervor of a dancer who feels the music and loves the dance itself. Rachel is quite an exceptional and exciting clogger - a good example of a “showoff’. She is very dedicated and loyal, not only to the dance, but to her team to whom she has only been a member for 1 1/2 years. Rachel began clog classes with Anna Wells after her older sister Courtney started the lessons. Rachel actually started late after the classes had already begun, but that did not slow
