Delivering higher performance through system solutions

Our breadth of expertise and wide range of quality products enables us to develop fully integrated system solutions designed to maximise performance and operational efficiency over a vessel’s lifetime. Our capability to optimise hull design and propulsion system integration, ensuring full compatibility between all system components, results in enhanced performance with greater fuel efficiency and outstanding passenger comfort. Shipbuilding time and costs can also be effectively reduced through efficient designs that increase ease of installation. Propulsion system solutions are developed against your specific requirements within our own hydrodynamic research facility, to ensure optimum performance in terms of noise, vibration and speed. Extensive project management skills are used to coordinate activities ensuring the highest standards of quality. Whether your requirement is for a fully integrated ship system or a single product, we assure you cost-effective solutions developed to maximise operating profitability.

NVC 256 LNG Ro-Pax

Passenger comfort and safety are prime design criterions, not just complying with regulations but also setting standards for passenger logistics and wellbeing in an emergency.

Current designs are based on the innovative Environship concept that combines seakindly and low resistance hullforms with efficent propulsion systems such as Promas and advanced electrical systems. The result is efficient ships with a low environmental impact. These world-leading designs are backed up by Rolls-Royce ship systems and equipment, providing effective and low risk solutions for both ship owners and . The design process evolves from initial discussions to define the customer’s operating requirements, through a concept design that is the best answer to these requirements, to detailed design and engineering by our exper ienced naval architects and marine engineers of a vessel for the chosen yard to build. A successful track record includes luxurious Ro-Pax cruise vessels, coastal passenger liners and many types of ferries.

Cutting-edge propulsion and manoeuvring for cruising and speed

Rolls-Royce meets your demanding propulsion, manoeuvring and motion control requirements with the broadest product range in the business. Our systems are used by cruise and passenger vessels all over the globe. The systems are renowned for their efficiency, fuel economy, low noise and vibration characteristics. The range includes propellers, podded propulsors, waterjets, thrusters, reduction gears, stabilisers, steering gear, rudders, control and automation – systems made for demanding performance requirements. Innovative products are continually being introduced, the latest being a range of tunnel thrusters using permanent magnet motor technology and offering quiet and efficient manoeuvring. Many passenger vessels alter their operational profile throughout their life, and can profit from Rolls-Royce propulsion upgrades such as Promas Lite. This includes the benefits of the high efficiency rudder and propeller system Promas, optimised for the ship’s actual profile. Integrated elec trical solutions are a speciality, including the Hybrid Shaft Generator concept and shore power for flexibilit y and efficient use of fuel.

LNG fuel is coming into prominence. For many cruise ships and ferries, Rolls-Royce lean burn gas engines with LNG fuel are the solution, combining high efficiency with low emission levels. Our engine range, both gas and diesel, provides a robust and reliable source of power, either for mechanical transmission or as generator sets. Our gas engines meet IMO Tier 3 regulations with low levels of greenhouse carbon dioxide, as well as nitrogen and sulphur oxides and particulates which affect local air quality when vessels are stationed in . The C 26:33 engine is unrestricted and responsive, and has achieved the EPA certificate of conformity. It is now available for delivery and operation in the US. Our gas engines have already proven their qualities on ferries, ro-pax and coastal ships operating in Europe. ypical applications T
