Bremont K2 Expedition with Jake Meyer Bremont Watch Company is pleased to announce that its ambassador Jake Meyer sets off on Monday 8th June, 2009 in an attempt to climb K2. If he succeeds he will be the youngest person ever to climb K2 and Everest. Only 7 British people have managed to climb K2 and Bremont are proud to be supporting Jake on this amazing trip. K2 is the world's second highest mountain at 8,611m (28,251ft) - it is 239m lower than Everest, but presents a much more significant climbing challenge. Nearly 4000 people have reached the summit of Everest, only 302 have climbed K2. At least 77 have died on K2's slopes, giving her a 1:4 ratio of deaths to summits. This truly is the mountaineer's mountain. Jake, who has been an Ambassador for the distinguished British watch company since 2006 and wears a prototype ALT1-P timepiece, says of Bremont: “The Bremont watches demonstrate precise Swiss engineering with classic British design, and nothing would make me prouder than to fly the Union Flag from the summit of K2 with a Bremont on my wrist. K2 is a savage mountain which demands respect and focus; anyone attempting it must have utter trust of their abilities and their equipment in the most severe conditions, and I know that my Bremont will never let me down, however much of a pounding I get”. Jake Meyer At an early age, Jake Meyer had a dream of becoming the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits - the highest mountain on each continent. On the 4th of June 2005, at the age of 21, Jake stood on the summit of Mount Everest and achieved his dream of becoming the youngest man in the world to complete the Seven Summits and the youngest Briton to climb Everest. On Tuesday 1st August 2006, Jake also broke the existing World Record for climbing the 48 highest peaks of Continental USA in the shortest time possible. The Freestyle ® Challenge 48 was completed in just 23 days, 19 hours and 31 minutes as Jake reached the summit of Mount Katahdin in Maine. The Englishman shaved a huge 5 days off the existing record of 29 days. http://www.jakemeyer.co.uk/ For more information about the Bremont Watch Company contact Rebecca Reed on +44(0)845 0940 690, [email protected] or www.bremont.com .
