Las Vegas Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week May 6-12 Las Vegas Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week May 6-12 National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is an annual tradition for the U.S. travel community. It’s a time when travel and tourism professionals across the country unite to celebrate the value travel holds for our economy, businesses and personal well-being. This year’s celebration, which will take place May 6 – 12, 2018, marks the 35th anniversary of the U.S. Travel Association’s 1983 congressional resolution that established NTTW. The week focuses on celebrating the contributions and accomplishments of the U.S. travel community over the course of the last several decades. The theme of NTTW 2018, “Travel Then and Now,” gives our industry a chance to reflect on past successes, while advocating for policies that promote future growth. NTTW 2018 is a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on how our destination has evolved over the years making Las Vegas the Entertainment, Sports, & Convention Capital of the World. To celebrate the tourism industry and the hardworking people who give visitors an unparalleled experience, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is hosting celebrations in conjunction with NTTW18 aligning with this year’s “Then and Now” theme. Highlighted below are the events taking place the week of May 6 through May 12, 2018. Locals and Visitors Rewarded (Monday, May 7 / 9am-10am & Tuesday, May 8 / 3pm-4pm) Entertainers and community partners will surprise locals and tourists with giveaways to shows, restaurants and attractions at Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) transit stops, as well as those on the City of Las Vegas’ Downtown Loop. “Then & Now” Travel Rally & Free Concert (Tuesday, May 8 / 5pm-7pm / Fremont Street Experience) The LVCVA will host a travel rally event at Fremont Street Experience Third Street Stage, led by Host Committee Chairman Oscar Goodman and his showgirls. There they will hand out special giveaways from local shows, restaurants, attractions and more. A free “Then & Now” live show featuring performances by iconic Frank Sinatra and Elvis impersonators with a final performance from local favorite top 40’s band, Zowie Bowie will follow. The LVCVA has partnered with Downtown Loop and RTC of Southern Nevada to further promote events and transfer visitors and locals to the rally by offering special giveaways at designated bus stops and limited VIP passes to Four Queens Hotel's private patio for free appetizers and an open bar during the rally. Guests are encouraged to wear red to the concert, signifying unity among the travel industry. Going Red (Tuesday, May 8) Per the U.S. Travel Association, the color red represents unity in our industry among travel and tourism workers and supporters coast-to-coast. We will encourage Southern Nevada to show support for the tourism industry by wearing red during Travel Rally Day on Tuesday, May 8. Additionally, businesses and landmarks throughout the community are encouraged to turn signs, lights and decorations red to mark the occasion. Blood Drive for Tourism Challenge Kick-Off (Friday, May 11) The Host Committee will partner with United Blood Services and kick-off the 3rd annual “Blood Drive Challenge for Tourism” during NTTW18 with messaging “Tourism is the lifeblood of Southern Nevada’s economy”. This initiative invites Host Committee Ambassadors and industry partners to show the strength of Las Vegas’ tourism industry and how the many dedicated people who work to make our city a great place to visit, also make it a great place to live. Hospitality Hero Program We will once again recognize the frontline employees at the hotels and attractions by surprising them on the job with a Hospitality Hero award. Each recipient will receive a glass award, a certificate of recognition and a commemorative lapel pin. We will honor 52 hospitality workers this year. How Can You Get Involved? I encourage you to be an active Host Committee Ambassador in the week's celebration by coming to the “Then and Now” Travel Rally and Free Concert for your chance to win giveaways and VIP passes to enjoy our two-hour open bar with appetizers at Four Queens Hotel's private patio Tuesday, May 8 at the Fremont Street Experience Third Street Stage. Don't forget to share your company's support by posting to social media photos of you and your colleagues/friends wearing red at the rally and in the office. Remember to use the hashtags: #NTTW18 and #TourismMatters using @LVCAImpact and @USTravel. Let's show the rest of the nation how Las Vegas celebrates travel and tourism!
