VOLUME 20 NUMBER 9 MAY 1ST, 2012 inaugural flight lands amid fanfare

By Mirella Santillo Ministry of Tourism and Aviation’s representatives including the Deputy Di- rector of Tourism, Mr. Ellison Thomp- son, Government Officials, members of the Media, United Airline personnel from Nassau and , and a delegation of Silver Airways Executives and employees, assembled at the Marsh Harbour Interna- tional Airport in the afternoon of April 12. They were there to witness the arrival of the company’s recently acquired Saab 340B plus from Fort Lauderdale. On its in- augural flight, the aircraft- named “Ella’s Dream”- was saluted by a stream of wa- ter from the airport fire truck as it landed. It was also greeted by a Junkanoo parade from the Murphy Town Superstars, as it came to a stop. Upon the aircraft’s touchdown, the crowd that had been waiting for the plane’s arrival abandoned the shade of the tent and rushed to the tarmac to take photos. The delegation of Silver Airways greeted the disembarking passengers. The passengers were not aware they would be greeted by such a fun spectacle.

New fire engine arrives for Marsh Harbour Old truck to be donated

Johnny Cash has a day job in real estate, but has also found a creative outlet in painting. Born in Abaco, he is a self-taught artist who paints familiar scenes from around the islands, as well as more well-known images. His recent work includes paintings of the grounding accident involving the Legacy as well as commemorative paintings of the Titanic. He uses canvas, bottles, driftwood and stones to create his art. Mr. Cash can be contacted through email: [email protected], or telephone: 367-6619. You can also check out his Facebook page @ ‘Abaco Arts and Crafts by Johnny Cash.’ The Marsh Harbour Volunteer Fire and Rescue has recently purchased this fire engine. It has a diesel engine and will replace a similar one that is gas. The truck has a 1000-gallon water tank and will be useful for this coming brush fire season. The engine is in Customs being cleared. Angels Academy raises funds for school year Wine and cheese tasting featured along with raffle and door prizes On Friday evening, April 20, An- gels Academy held its Spring Fling Wine and Cheese Tasting event. The event was geared towards the parents and family of children enrolled at Angels Academy as well as other members of the community. Tickets were $30 which included a buffet dinner at The Jib Room, where the event was held, as well as samplings of a vari- ety of wines and cheeses. A raffle was also held as part of the fundraising efforts. Angels Academy, a private school lo- cated along Front Street in Marsh Harbour, schools nearly 30 children. The school, which was founded in 2006, focuses on early childhood education. Angels Acad- emy is headed by Barbara Johnson, who is the principal, as well as April Parotti who is the founder and administrator. An- gels Academy is also set up as a 501(3)(c) American tax-exempt nonprofit. On the evening of April 20 people began to arrive to the wine and cheese tast- ing shortly before 5:30 pm. It was an en- joyable evening set to the backdrop of the setting sun. The Jib Room, which hosted the event, proved to be a welcoming venue. While most came for the wine, both whites and reds, the bar was also open to provide additional refreshments.
