To toast the end of harvest season, half barrels will be filled with grapes so oenophiles can try their hand—well, foot—at crushing grapes. After your stomp session, you can stamp your purple footprints on the back of a souvenir T-shirt to commemorate the occasion. During the second weekend, there will be a Lucy & The Italian Woman Contest, where attendees can channel their inner Lucille Ball. Costumes—and enthusiasm—are required! • Dallas Arts & Cultural Facility Opening Guidelines
DALLAS ARTS & CULTURAL FACILITY OPENING GUIDELINES Updated July 23, 2020 As Texas works to reopen from its COVID-19 closures, members of the Dallas nonprofit arts and cultural community have created guidelines to resume operations once authorized to do so. The standards capture overarching safety principles and risk mitigation practices in our industries that will guide the policies and strategies unique to each organization’s art form, audiences, artists, and venues. This is a living document. We will regularly assess the evolving status of the pandemic in North Texas and will, in alignment with the latest scientific and medical recommendations, make changes accordingly. These guidelines have been reviewed by Dr. Trish Perl, Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases at UT Southwestern Medical Center and her recommendations have been incorporated. Background: Arts and culture define the identity of Dallas. It's an industry which, before COVID-19, had an annual economic impact of close to $1B supporting 33,000 jobs. Each year, the economic impact generated by these small businesses produce more than $45M in local tax revenues.1 Our diverse, growing cultural community has supported our reputation as a creative, vibrant city helping to attract talent, jobs, and corporate relocations to Dallas. They create economic, cultural, tourism, and quality-of-life ripple effects touching every corner of our city. To resume operations, we are adopting reasonable measures as a roadmap to reduce risk moving forward while providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful patron experience. Guiding Principles for Reopening to the Public: Each organization will determine risk mitigation factors for external and internal conditions that will allow for its reopening and ongoing specific operating procedures.

Charles (Chuck) Lyda (July 23, 1952 – June 12, 2010) U.S. Wildwater Team Member – 1971-1995, 2003 U.S. National Champion (Wildwater) 1979, 1981 and 1995 (C-1) 1976 (C-2 with Andy Toro), 1991 (C-2 with Dan Schnurrenberger) 1995 (C-2 with John Pinyerd) World Champion (Slalom) 1975 and 1977 (C-2 Mixed with Marietta Gillman) Charles Clinton Lyda was born on July 23, 1952 in San Diego, California. He was the son of Grady Lu Lyda Jr. and Charmian Lyda. His parents also had his sister Laramee and a brother Grady. Chuck, as he became known, was to turn out to be unlike most people. He was an athlete and honorable person in every way. At a very early age around 14 or so he was exposed to paddling kayaks at Newport Harbor and was a Sea Scout, similar to a Boy Scout, in Newport Beach. He was exposed to sailing and paddling and soon fell under the influence of Tom Johnson, a LA Fireman who was already heavily involved with canoes and kayaks. Chuck through Tom and others soon was running rivers and, throughout school in Newport Beach, was steadily getting better. Even during high school he did not do other sports with his classmates but instead was paddling. When Tom Johnson moved to Kernville, along came Chuck. With the move, Kernville soon became a Mecca for folks wanting to train for whitewater slalom and wildwater racing. Tom also helped make Newport Harbor, then called the Sea Base, a site for flatwater training. Chuck moved very quickly to being a slalom and wildwater paddler who, to a person seeing his potential gave up their spot on the team, and Chuck at about 16 years old was already racing for the US Team in World Championships.

Increasing Our Love for God & Neighbor HighlightTHE CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST St. Charles (Campton Hills) • cuccstc.org May 3, 2018 • Issue 4 SEM’s to Return We are relaunching our church’s SEM (Summer Experience in Ministry) internship program! We’re very enthusiastic about this opportunity and confident that it will be a rich experience for the participants. The SEM interns, guided by the pastors, will join a program of action and reflection, sharing work and conversation with one another, and with children, youth, and adults of the church, exploring both “what we believe” and “how we live our faith.” SEM interns will be challenged to develop their own practical theology. There will be specific projects in ministry, occasions for leadership, invitations to be creative, chances for recreation and, every week, a conversation about what we’re learning. The SEM internship is open to CUCC members who are post-secondary students, graduating high school seniors through college. If you know of anyone who would be interested in applying for this opportunity, or have any questions, feel free to contact us directly. Grace and peace, The Rev. David Pattee The Rev.
