Quispamsis has increasingly become an attractive choice for many businesses, professionals and service providers. We have a well-rounded community of entrepreneurs who are committed in seeing the Ken- nebecasis Valley flourish.

Commercial activity continues to grow with an increasing number of new businesses setting up shop in the Kennebecasis Business Park. RV Canada has opened its doors and Home Hardware will soon be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

And the qplex continues to build on its energy, establishing itself as a signature venue attracting major events, offering numerous recreational activities, while contributing to the overall well-being of the Val- ley.

I am also extremely excited that Quispamsis will play a key role in the resurgence of True Growth 2.0 which will create an environment to support sustainable economic growth in our region.

Please take the opportunity to support local business in the Kennebecasis Valley.

Sincerely,

Murray Driscoll Mayor, Town of Quispamsis

6 KV Business Directory 2013 Rothesay Mayor’s Message

Rothesay Council is approaching year one of its mandate following the May 2012 municipal election. Five of the seven Councillors are newly elected and all Councillors are eager to make decisions that will continue to enhance our Town.

In addition to the many new residential buildings constructed in 2012, it is encouraging to see a number of new business operations open in Rothesay. Most of these establishments are in the Marr Road/Hampton Road area. Business owners have worked with our Planning and Development Services department and the premises are attractive and functional. Citizens are encouraged to patronize local businesses as much as possible.

It should be noted that Rothesay contains the highest concentration of commercial and service sector estab- lishments in the Kennebecasis Valley and it is therefore imperative that the Town pays attention to the high volume of traffic on the road network throughout the community.

This summer will see major improvements to Hampton Road. Funds have been allocated to carry out the recommendations of the Traffic Study commissioned by Council in 2012. The contract will provide for the widening of the roadbed to permit bicycle lanes and will also include sidewalk renewal and a general upgrade to the streetscape.

Town funds and a grant of $200,500 from the Federal government will permit a significant improvement to the Renforth Park and waterfront area. The goal is to have this work completed prior to the annual Dragon Boat Festival in August.

Approximately $800,000 will be spent on asphalt for Rothesay roads this summer. In summary, the projects planned for 2013 will cause some delays and inconvenience but the end result will, I am sure, be much ap- preciated.

In closing, I encourage all citizens to do your duty and help our provincial health system: eat wisely and exercise daily.

A kitchen make over goes through three stages: Before, Designs and After. A real kitchen renovation does take a little longer than the typical 30 minutes TV kitchen renovation programs. Unlike the TV make overs and the one shown in this article, a lot more does occur between the before and after. How do you make sure that your project goes smoothly and timely? Plan, delegate and use professionals to help that project come together. DESIGN A professional kitchen designer typically can really bring a project to- gether for you from start to finish. First a good designer will listen to your ideas, or maybe lack of ideas to start your project. There are designers out there that can come into your home, and sit down and right on the spot work the designs and ideas with you. Nor- mally if both spouses are interested in the project they should both be there to sit in on the first design session. A really good designer will keep this process moving along, engage you both in the preliminary ideas and concepts so it is easy, informative and entertaining. As the concepts are laid out and a floor plan is generated, usually with professional input, ideas that you thought not possible will come to light. Your designer should be able to turn them into 3D designs that will bring your new kitchen concepts to life. Once the designs are complete your designer will be able to quickly generate a complete budget for you. If you do not have a contractor to AFTER do the renovation part of the project, the designer can usually suggest to you the right sized and reliable contractor for your project. So...in short, the best way to get that kitchen with the "Wow Factor" is to work with pros.

(The process and Inorganic components. If you would like more information on this topic, normally takes 3 - 6 months.) A detailed written and signed application must be submitted to the Council, including an amendment fee of $350, (plus an additional $250 fee if a Mu- nicipal Plan By-law Amendment is also required). The Council will consider the application, and if it wishes to proceed with the request, it will establish, in the case of a Municipal Plan By-law Amendment, a Public Presentation, or in the case of a Zoning By-law Amendment, a Public Hearing. Council will also refer the application to the Planning Advisory Committee for its written views and often notify the property owners residing within 100 meter radius of the property proposed for rezoning. If the Municipal Plan is to be amended, once a Public Presentation is held, the Council will then proceed with the steps necessary to amend the Zon- ing By-law. The procedure a Municipality must follow is outlined in the Provincial Community Planning Act, which stipulates advertising of the pro- posal, the times and dates of Public Meetings where the Public can submit written objections, and the time frames involved in this process. Following the Public Hearing, if Council supports the proposed request, the By-law Amendment(s) can receive first and second reading, and then, at the next Regular Meeting of Council, it can receive third and final read- ing, subject to a binding developer’s agreement between the Town and the applicant. The by-law amendment, or the redesignation of the land zone, becomes effective once the amendment(s) are, in the case of a Municipal Plan, approved by the Minister of Environment & Local Government, and filed in the Registry Office.
