    DISTRICT SURVEY REPORT CHAPTER-I INTRODUCTION- Ministry of environment, forest and climate change vide notification dated 15th January 2016, New Delhi has made mandatory for mining of minor minerals irrespective of the area of mining lease, to obtain environmental clearance before mining, in this respect state govt. has set up two bodies DEIAA and DEAC which will meet once in every month and the members of this committee will recommend/scrutnize the mining plan/environmental clearance of the minor minerals. This will be done on the basis of district survey report in which all the important factors shall be taken into consideration regarding land use, reserves, mineral-availability, deposition, infrastructure, distance prohibition, annual deposition and time taken for replenishment etc, This district survey report will be an important too for the guidance, assessment and sanction for giving environment clearance to the said mine plan of the minor mineral or if any correction or so is needed in the said mine plan. The district lies between longitude 23045' N to 250 09'N and latitude 79045'E to 800 45'E of sagar division. It is the northern most part of the division. It is covered by toposheet no. 55M, 54P, 63C, 63D and 64A. It is located 70 km. west from WC Rly station Satna, by all fair weather road NH-75 and nearest airport at a distance of 40km. from district HQ. 1 2 An area of 246951 Hect. i.e., about 35% of the area of the district is covered under the government forests. In order to consider the proposals under National Lake Conservation Plan, the Ministry had identified certain lakes through a study.     Chapter – I INTRODUCTION Madhya Pradesh (including what is now Chhattisgarh) was constituted on st recommendations of the State Re-organisation Commission on 1 November 1956. The Mahakoushal and Chhattisgarh part of the Old Central Provinces (CP) and Berar, Vindhya Pradesh, Madhya Bharat and Bhopal were merged to form the new state. Some districts of CP and Berar were transferred to Maharashtra and there were a few minor adjustments with st Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. From 1 November 2000 Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh. The state is endowed with rich natural resources, salubrious climate and fertile agro-climatic conditions. At present Madhya Pradesh consists of 10 divisions and 50 districts. As per 2001 census, it has a population of 60 million with a population density of 196 persons per sq.km. 1.1 Physiography 0 0 0 0 Madhya Pradesh lies between latitude 21 6'and 26 54'N and longitude 74 and 82 47'E. It covers a geographical area of 308,245 sq.km which is about 9.38% of the total area of India. The State is land - locked and at no point is the sea less than 300 kms away. Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan surround it. Most of the State lies on the tableland of Central India bounded by the Upper Gangetic plains in the north; the Godavari valley in the south; the plains of Gujarat in the west; and plateau of Bundelkhand and Chhattisgarh in the east. Introduction Runj Medium Irrigation Scheme shall be located in Ajaygarh tehsil of district Panna, Madhya Pradesh. The proposed scheme consists of 1182 m long composite dam across river Runj which is a tributary of Bhagain river which ultimately confluences with the Yamuna. The dam shall be located 250 m u/s of Aramganj village and can be approached by traveling 20 km on Panna- Ajaigarh road. The nearest railway station to project site is Satna which is 90 km away from dam site. The storage dam shall comprise of 124.75 m long overflow section comprising of 8 bays of size 12.5 m x 5.75 m to pass a PMF of 3382.62 cumec. Non-overflow section with maximum height 43.35 m above foundation level in 15 m length on either side of the spillway has been proposed. On left and right of the non-overflow section earthen dam of maximum height 34.43 m has been conceived in 855 and 172 m respectively. A canal sluice at RD 120 of left flank of earthen dam section shall be provided from which 41.94 km long left main canal, PCC lined trapezoidal in section with authorized head discharge 6.2 cumec, shall off-take to provide flow irrigation in 9940 ha CCA lying in 39 vilalges of Ajaygarh block.
